"Air Greenland – Great way to get to Nuuk but some things you will need to know."
Overall, the trip was smooth with no issues from the flight or the staff. The crew was courteous, friendly, and attentive when it came to refreshments. However, there are a couple of things travelers should be aware of to avoid disappointment due to mismatched expectations. First, even if you select your seats in advance, Air Greenland operates on open seating. My travel companion and I had chosen seats together, but upon boarding, others had taken them, and we were separated to sit with strangers. Second, Air Greenland assumes a level of travel experience from its passengers. Safety instructions were not given in English, so if you're not familiar with standard in-flight safety procedures, this could be a concern. It's best suited for seasoned travelers who are already comfortable with such protocols.
"Wonderful Service"
The only wildcard when flying to Greenland is the weather — and if you're considering a trip there, be prepared for it to impact every stop and activity. That said, the onboard service was excellent. The crew were constantly in motion, serving beverages (note: no alcohol), cookies, chocolate, and sandwiches (served once). Their attentiveness and efficiency really stood out during the flight.
"comfortable equipment, excellent crews, new meaning to short take off and landings"
What a treat! The Dash 8 is an excellent aircraft for the unique conditions in Greenland. We left a little late and arrived a little late, but nothing major. I also had the chance to fly on their S-61N — it was maintained like new. One thing to note: local needs take priority over scheduled or chartered flights, but that’s part of the charm. Overall, a great ride and a memorable experience.
"A unique airline well-suited to a very specialized market"
Air Greenland, aside from charter flights or a few Air Iceland turboprop services, is often the best and only option for traveling to Greenland from mainland Europe. The wide-body A330, a strikingly painted, bright red aircraft, operates between Copenhagen and Kangerlussuaq, Greenland’s only jet-capable airport. From Kangerlussuaq, most major towns in Greenland are accessible via connecting flights. While the aircraft is over a decade old and well-used, the interior remains surprisingly clean and in good condition. The inflight entertainment system is limited, with small seat-back screens, and the seat comfort and pitch in economy are average. The inflight service is friendly, though the food is nothing special. The views of Greenland are absolutely stunning, so I recommend securing a window seat (preferably not above the wing) for the best views and photo opportunities.
"All you want -and transportation too…"
Excellent onboard service! The food was quite decent and the drink offerings were more generous than any other airline I've flown with in the past decade—truly impressive. The only hiccup was the rebooking process in SFJ from the Airbus A330 to a Dash-8, which felt disorganized and unnecessary. That said, the actual flights were smooth and enjoyable. Overall, excellent experience!
"Lack of competition"
A typical example of what happens when there's little competition. The aircraft was old and had recently been away for overhaul, yet the entertainment system was still broken—and from what I gathered, it had been that way for a while. Disappointing that no one seems to prioritize fixing it.
"Nuuk new airport kaos and bad Dash 8"
Be prepared for high prices and no service. Nuuk’s new airport was chaotic with no organization or support. Our Air Greenland Dash 8 sat on the tarmac for about an hour with the door open in -15°C while they attempted cockpit repairs—no drinks, no blankets, nothing to ease the cold. In the end, the flight was cancelled. A completely unacceptable experience.
"Great flight"
Really enjoyed my first flight with Air Greenland. The food and drinks were excellent, and the flight departed and arrived right on time. A smooth and pleasant experience overall.
"No information"
The staff told us the trip was cancelled due to technical issues with the helicopter, not bad weather as the official update claimed. The situation was chaotic with a complete lack of information and no clear schedules. Compared to this, Iceland Air, which also operates in Greenland, is much more reliable and keeps passengers well informed.
"Service is non existent"
My flight was cancelled on a clear, sunny day due to ‘lack of crew’—totally unacceptable. Despite staffing reserves, I was rebooked only 48 hours later, while a friend who booked through a third‑party site got a flight just 16 hours on. I’m a single passenger, yet no flexibility was offered. Customer service was unreachable for 36 hours, and when they finally reappeared, the meal allowance of 125 kr per meal barely covered lunch, let alone dinner. I also lost a non‑refundable two‑night stay in Ilulissat—too costly to claim back under my travel insurance excess. The inflexibility and poor communication left me stranded and out of pocket. Avoid this airline unless you’re prepared for rigid policies and long delays.
