"A Modern Airport with Room for Service Improvements"

My experience at Josep Tarradellas Barcelona Airport was a mix of positives and areas needing improvement. The airport itself is impressively modern and expansive, with plenty of shops for last-minute purchases and a wide variety of dining options to suit different tastes. The customs process was efficient, which I appreciated. However, passport control was a major disappointment. The staff member I encountered was unprofessional, showing rudeness and impatience toward passengers seeking assistance. The queue was poorly managed, and we endured nearly an hour of waiting without any progress. I strongly urge airport management to reassess their procedures to create a more organized and passenger-friendly experience. Given the size of the airport, additional signage would help travelers navigate to key facilities more easily. Cleanliness is another area of concern, as the washrooms were not well-maintained. Even the free drinking water stations near the washrooms had an unpleasant aftertaste, forcing me to discard the water for my own safety. It is crucial for airport management to prioritize traveler convenience, accessibility, and overall well-being to match the high standards expected of such a major international hub.

"Excellent Experience at Barcelona El Prat Airport"

I had a fantastic experience flying through Barcelona El Prat Airport. From start to finish, everything ran smoothly. The airport is exceptionally clean, modern, and easy to navigate. Security was quick and efficient, the signage was clear, and the staff were both helpful and friendly. I especially appreciated the wide variety of shops and dining options—plenty to keep you occupied before boarding. For aviation enthusiasts, the views of the runway and surrounding area are a real bonus. Overall, this is one of the best airports I’ve flown through in Europe, and I would gladly travel through here again.

"Modern and Efficient Airport with Excellent Connections"

Barcelona Airport, also known as Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport, is the main gateway to the city of Barcelona, Spain. The airport is very clean, well-maintained, and conveniently located close to the city center. Service at the information desk was excellent, with friendly and helpful staff ready to assist passengers. It features two main terminals—Terminal 1 and Terminal 2—both offering a range of modern facilities including restaurants, cafes, duty-free shops, free Wi-Fi, passenger lounges, and accessible amenities for travelers with disabilities. Transportation links to and from the airport are excellent, with options such as buses, metro, trains, and taxis. I personally took the L9S metro line into the city and then continued by bus to my hotel. Using the Hola Barcelona Travel Card was a great way to save on transportation costs, as it covers metro, train, bus, and tram rides. Overall, Barcelona Airport is a modern, efficient, and passenger-friendly airport that provides everything needed for a smooth and comfortable journey.

"Clean, Spacious Airport with Plenty of Amenities"

We flew into Barcelona from Paris at night, and the airport was very easy to navigate—finding our way to baggage claim and collecting our bags was simple and efficient. When flying out during the day to Amsterdam and onward to Chicago, check-in was a bit confusing because our flight had been changed just 7 hours prior. We weren’t able to print baggage tags at the self-serve kiosks, but fortunately, it all worked out in the end. Once past security, the airport felt massive, with plenty of shopping and dining options. It was more like walking through a modern shopping mall than an airport, and everything was impressively clean throughout.

"Bright, Clean, and Easy to Navigate but Slow Service"

Barcelona Airport is a busy hub with slow-moving staff, but it’s clean and well-marked, making it easy to navigate. The first thing you notice is how bright and beautiful the building is, with plenty of natural light and modern architecture. However, be prepared to walk quite a bit, as the distances to some gates can be long.

"A Nightmare Experience at Barcelona Airport – Beware!"

This was the worst airport experience of my life. After passing through security, I lost my passport and retraced my steps through the coffee shop, shopping areas, and everywhere I’d been—but couldn’t find it. I was told I had to exit the airport to report it to Lost & Found and the police. Leaving the airport without a passport was terrifying. Getting back in was a nightmare, especially after learning my flight was canceled and no staff were at the gate. With no hotels, sleeping pods, or resting areas available, I had to sleep on the floor of the airport. The next morning, I was finally able to get a direct flight home, but only after being forced through mismanaged security lines again and rechecking my luggage—despite explaining I just wanted to get home. Later, the police confirmed they had my passport but refused to mail it and didn’t explain where it was found. Throughout this ordeal, most airport staff were rude and unhelpful, though a few kind employees admitted the airport is known for theft and “sketchy things.” At the police station, I even met another couple who had been robbed in the airport—the woman’s bag, passport, and phone were snatched, and the thief was never caught. I travel often and have never endured such chaos and stress. This experience left me hesitant to ever return to Barcelona. Travelers should beware—keep your belongings secure at all times.

"Smooth Process and Great Amenities After Passport Control"

The airport is well-organized with fast and efficient security. In Area D after passport control, there are plenty of shops and dining options where you can relax, eat, and do some shopping before your flight.

"Poor Facilities for Non-EU Travelers – Awful Experience with Kids"

If you’re traveling outside the EU, be prepared for disappointment. There are no proper places to eat—just one low-quality cafeteria with rude staff—and no shops or amenities to make the wait more comfortable. Traveling with kids made this experience even worse. However, if you’re flying within the EU, it’s a completely different story. There are plenty of shops, restaurants, and facilities available. The contrast is shocking.

"Excellent Service and Easy Navigation for Elderly Travelers"

The airport was very easy to navigate and everything felt smooth and efficient. Staff were quick and helpful, especially as we were traveling with our elderly parents who needed extra assistance and support during boarding.

"Clean and Modern Airport with Great City Connections"

The airport is clean, modern, huge, and very busy. It has a direct metro line connecting to the city center, which is extremely convenient. The airport bus is also a good option, though it can get very crowded.
