"Good Indian Food but Not Worth Two Michelin Stars"
I’m honestly puzzled how this place earned two Michelin stars. While they serve good Indian food, it’s nowhere near spectacular. We left with full bellies but also a strong sense of regret — the experience simply didn’t justify the high prices. If you’re after something truly exceptional or innovative, Gymkhana sadly isn’t the place. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the service lovely, but the food is just standard, good Indian fare without anything surprising, experimental, or unique.
"Delicious Indian Flavors at Gymkhana — A Must-Visit in London"
The food at Gymkhana was absolutely delicious. My favorites were the aloo chaat as an appetizer and the butter chicken as a main — the spices and flavors were perfectly balanced and full of depth. However, the space is a bit small, and it got quite noisy inside, making it hard to hear each other. Despite that, Gymkhana is definitely a must-visit for anyone seeking some of the best Indian food in London.
"Exceptional Ambiance and Service, Solid Food"
I’m basing this review more on the overall experience rather than the food itself. Gymkhana nails it when it comes to décor, atmosphere, and service — everything was flawless. Our host was incredibly friendly, taking time to explain the menu options and patiently answering all our questions. I booked a lunch reservation for my birthday and chose the lunch tasting menu, which felt like the best value compared to the full tasting menu. It offers a great selection without feeling overwhelming or overpriced for fine dining. The food was pleasant, though nothing truly extraordinary. The standout dish for me was the lamb chops (with an extra supplement) — some of the meatiest and most perfectly cooked lamb chops I’ve ever had. Overall, a wonderful experience with excellent service and ambiance.
"Outstanding Indian Cuisine with Exceptional Service and Ambience"
This is some of the best Indian food I’ve ever tasted. Every bite offers a perfectly balanced explosion of flavors on the palate. The staff deliver exceptional service, making the experience even better. The ambience is excellent — calm, not loud at all — and the seating arrangement provides just the right amount of privacy. Highly recommended!
"Butter Chicken Shines, But Overall Gymkhana Disappoints"
The butter chicken was, without a doubt, the best I have ever eaten in my life. Unfortunately, the rest of the dishes we tried were average or even disappointing. We sampled many popular items, but nothing else stood out. Visiting London from Norway, we booked well in advance for a lunch reservation for two adults and one child. Our bill came to £150, which included £11 for water — a bit surprising. Would we return? No. Would I recommend it? Only for the butter chicken. I really wanted to love Gymkhana fully, but it feels overhyped, perhaps losing its way with all the recent fame. For comparison, the lamb chops at Tayyabs in Whitechapel are much better and much more affordable (£10-15 versus £70 here). Back home in Stavanger, Norway, Mogul India is a curry house we all feel is superior to Gymkhana.
"Delicious Flavours but Service and Spice Levels Could Improve at Gymkhana"
Gymkhana offers very tasty Indian food with great textures and bold flavours. However, some dishes were extremely spicy with no option to request milder versions, which was a drawback for me as I prefer less intense heat. For a two Michelin-starred restaurant, I expected more flexibility in spice levels. The desserts and petit fours didn’t appeal to us, though that may be personal taste. On the service front, while everyone was friendly, the experience felt lacking for a two-star Michelin venue — simply refilling water isn’t quite enough. If you come knowing what to expect, you can enjoy a good meal at Gymkhana, but if you come with high expectations based on its rating, you might be left disappointed.
"Gymkhana: A True Gem for Indian Cuisine in London"
Gymkhana is an absolute gem in London’s dining scene. This Indian restaurant effortlessly combines traditional flavors with creative flair, offering a menu that’s as exciting as it is delicious. Every dish feels meticulously crafted, bursting with bold spices and unexpected twists that keep you coming back for more. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, striking the perfect balance between cozy and chic. Despite its upscale reputation, the vibe remains refreshingly unpretentious, making it a place where you can truly relax and enjoy the experience. The service is impeccable—attentive without being overbearing, with staff who are genuinely passionate about the food and eager to make your meal memorable. Gymkhana is a must-visit for anyone looking to savor the best of Indian cuisine in London.
"Great Butter Chicken and Prawns, But Overpriced Overall"
I gave this place 4 stars mainly because of the prices—some dishes just don’t feel worth the cost. The butter chicken was absolutely the best I’ve ever had, and the tandoori prawns were incredible. However, the lamb chops at around £23 each definitely didn’t justify the price. Cocktails were okay but also quite pricey for what you get. Overall, tasty food but be prepared to pay a premium.
