Hotel B

"Poor service, poky room, no kettle in bedroom"
This hotel is seriously overrated. We were given a small, awkwardly shaped corner room where two large wardrobes took up most of the space, making it very uncomfortable. Breakfasts were mediocre, and on the first morning, we weren’t even offered a cooked option. Everything took a long time to arrive, likely because the hotel seemed short-staffed. Worst of all, there was no kettle in the room to make a simple cup of tea or coffee, which was extremely inconvenient.
"Top"
Hotel B is a spectacular old mansion located in the Barranco area, showcasing the incredible effort taken to restore it to its current excellent condition. While it has been adapted to function as a hotel, they have managed to maintain its charm and authenticity beautifully. The service is truly outstanding in all areas—whether at the lobby, restaurant, or during the massages, the staff goes above and beyond. Breakfast is very complete, and you can even request coffee exactly as you like it, whether espresso, americano, or another style. One lovely touch is the afternoon tea hour, offering a variety of teas and treats to enjoy. The rooms are spacious, with some of the highest ceilings I have ever seen in a hotel room, adding to the grandeur of the stay. While the Barranco area might not be the most attractive part of Lima overall, Hotel B is set on a very pleasant and quiet dead-end street, which adds to the sense of peace and exclusivity.
"Hotel Boutique"
I stayed with my girlfriend for a few days to enjoy the beautiful Barranco district. The house, owned by the Bedoya family, is very charming and tastefully decorated. However, the rooftop, which is often highly praised, was a bit disappointing as it is a small space with a poor layout. Nearby, the Belo Bar inside the Belmond offers a better rooftop experience.
"Not for seniors"
I was disappointed with my experience at this property. There is only one elevator located at the back of the hotel, and it does not access several rooms. To reach mine, I had to either walk up two steep flights of stairs or take the elevator to the roof and then use the staircase down to my room. There were other concerns as well: slippery slab marble in the shower, poor insulation so we could hear people walking above us late into the night, and very old locks that made opening and closing the door difficult. Additionally, if the water in the sink wasn't turned on full blast, it would completely miss the basin and flood the countertop. Small details, like misspellings on the menus, also raised questions about how Relais & Châteaux could have approved this property. That said, it is an old colonial mansion and the afternoon tea is lovely. Perhaps younger guests might enjoy the charm, but for seniors like myself, the lack of accessibility and comfort made it a disappointing stay.
"Beautiful Hotel"
The hotel is beautiful and the service is outstanding. Breakfast and tea service were wonderful, and the location is vibrant and fun. However, our room was extremely damp with a musty odor, which they attempted to mask with a strong floral scent. It was so damp that even the clean clothes in my suitcase felt wet in the morning. Additionally, the floors are very slick, and despite the rugs, we slipped a couple of times. On the bright side, the bed and pillows were very comfortable, and I managed to sleep fairly well despite some noise.
"Excellent place but a shame for the attention.."
I went with another person to enjoy “Tea Time” at the hotel. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by a friendly gentleman at the door. However, once inside, there was an old door with a tricky handle that we struggled to open. When we finally managed, it made a loud noise, and instead of receiving a friendly welcome from the reception staff, we were met with disdainful looks and were abruptly asked what we wanted, without so much as a greeting. We explained that we had a paid reservation for Tea Time and were simply told it was in the library, as though we should know where that was. Instead of sending a host to guide us, we were left to figure it out ourselves. We ended up waiting about 30 minutes before exploring and eventually finding the buffet on our own. The hotel itself is undeniably spectacular — an old mansion of the Bedoya family, designed in an eclectic French style by renowned architect Claude Sahut. The Tea Time buffet was exquisite, though not overly varied, but certainly worth the price. Unfortunately, the poor quality of service did not match the luxury image of the hotel. I sincerely hope the service improves, as this beautiful property deserves to deliver a truly exceptional experience.
"Wonderfully located boutique hotel"
This charming and friendly boutique hotel was recommended by our agent Wimeya and is clearly a popular choice for discerning guests as an alternative to the Belmond Miraflores. As others have consistently mentioned, the property is a true gem, perfectly located in the Barranco area—bohemian, safe, and vibrant—while also within easy walking distance to the beach. Food and service were both very good. Although Lima often has foggy days, we were lucky to enjoy two days of clear blue skies, and we were glad we chose both the city and this lovely property.
"Highly overated"
This is definitely the place to be if you’re part of Lima’s privileged social scene. The bar exudes the charm of an old library, but it is often overcrowded, noisy, and on the expensive side. That said, the staff is very attentive, and the service is excellent. Prices reflect the exclusivity of the venue, and it stays open until late, making it a popular spot for the city’s elite.
"Tiny dirty room, noisy, bad service"
First, the room was tiny—we had to shove most of our luggage under the table just to fit them in. The furnishings were old and poorly maintained. The TV was inside a cabinet, and to watch it, you had to open doors that didn’t swing back fully, making the already cramped space feel even smaller. While the bathroom was relatively large, it was dirty, with black stains on the sink that required me to call housekeeping to clean. Our ground-floor room was also extremely noisy, with street noise on one side and the restaurant on the other, and the WiFi signal was terrible. Service was equally disappointing. When we called reception to arrange a taxi, we were told to wait five minutes, but after five minutes of waiting outside, we discovered they hadn’t even called the taxi. When we asked if it was possible to move a dinner reservation, the bellboy awkwardly tried to grab my phone out of my hand. Later, when we asked him to inform the taxi driver of a change in destination, he failed to do so properly, and we ended up at the wrong address. Overall, the entire experience was well below what one would expect from a Relais & Châteaux property.
"Stylish, Charming, and Perfectly Located"
This hotel is truly charming, with beautiful rooms full of character and style. The breakfast, meals, and drinks are all of exceptional quality, making dining here a real pleasure. Its location in the Barranco district is also ideal, providing a perfect base to explore the area.
"Hotel B is delightful but check the location of your room."
This was our second visit to Hotel B, arriving the Wednesday before Easter (Thursday being a public holiday in Peru). We had booked their Atelier premium suite, which I believe is their best room type. Upon arrival, the reception area was very noisy as it is close to the bar, and we later discovered the suite was directly above it, making the room quite loud. We requested a different room and, despite the hotel being heavily booked, the staff was able to accommodate us. The substitute room was delightful, and the team was very attentive and understanding. During our previous stay, the hotel was, to my knowledge, open only to guests, but now it seems they have explored other revenue streams, likely due to Covid. While understandable, it can affect the guest experience. That said, we were very happy with our stay. Hotel B remains a stunning boutique property with an excellent location, superb staff, and delicious food. We would absolutely recommend it.
"Good."
The drinks were beautiful, and the breakfast itself was good. A special thanks to Maria at reception, who was absolutely great—helpful, super efficient, and even helped me find an alternative taxi during a critical moment. However, the meal service, especially at breakfast, takes forever. Today, the waiter didn’t even offer the juice option. Since I was already late, I asked him to please send it to my room instead of waiting another 30 minutes. It never arrived. I left for errands and came back at 1 p.m. with still no sign of the juice. After reminding a staff member and even going to the patio restaurant to ask for it—feeling ridiculous by that point—I finally received my long-awaited pineapple juice at nearly 1:45 p.m. In a few days, my husband will be checking in, and I can’t help but wonder what new Hotel B adventures await us. I might just ask him to act like the Marx Brothers—if we’re treated poorly, we’ll respond with exaggerated, ultra-super niceness!
Hotel B
A standout boutique retreat in Barranco with a creative vibe, rooftop bar, personal touches. Plans to expand with spa and added rooms by 2027.
