"Decent hotel with good food in a small town with limited options"

Decent hotel with fairly spacious rooms. We had a river view, and during the rainy season, the river was a raging torrent. The bathroom was a bit dark and dingy but clean. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. Breakfast was wonderful, and the food overall was very good. WiFi didn’t reach our room, and the hotel’s response was that guests needed to use WiFi in the lounge area, which is not very practical. Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel in a small town with limited options.

"Poor quality rooms, not 4 Star"

The hotel’s location is excellent—very close to the train station and the bus pickup point for Machu Picchu. The front desk and overall staff were very friendly and helpful. However, the rooms were disappointing. We were assigned basement rooms that appeared not to have been renovated in over 10 years. While there is a river view, the bathroom facilities, charging outlets, and other amenities expected at a 4-star hotel were lacking. In reality, this hotel feels more like a 2- to 3-star property rather than a 4-star. We do not recommend it if you’re expecting true 4-star accommodations.

"Excellent hotel in very good location"

Excellent location right along the train tracks, close to many restaurants and ATMs. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed and shown to the hotel. Since we arranged an English-speaking guide for Machu Picchu through the hotel, the staff were well-informed about our entrance times, helped us purchase bus tickets, directed us where to line up, and coordinated with the guide to meet us at the top. Check-in was smooth, and we were very fortunate that our room was ready early, allowing us to rest before our Machu Picchu visit. The staff were exceptional, with a special thanks to Diana, who took great care of us and made our trip truly memorable. We booked a room with a river view, which helped minimize the noise from passing trains. A great place to stay — thank you, Diana, for your kindness! We will always remember it.

"Nice facilities, service lacking in an overall fine one-night stop in Aguas Calientes."

Overall, it was a good experience, but the hotel definitely feels like a one-night stop with little incentive for return guests. On the positive side, the rooms are nice, and the river view is amazing. The location is very convenient — just a short walk from the railway station and the bus transfer stop to Machu Picchu. However, the staff left much to be desired. Service was slow and inflexible in many instances. For example, this was the only hotel in Peru where we had to fill out all our passport details ourselves instead of the staff handling it. Housekeeping even barged into our room at 6 a.m., seemed annoyed we were there, and were almost reluctant to leave. All in all, this hotel is a reasonable, basic option for an overnight stay in Aguas Calientes, similar to others catering mostly to single-use visitors.

"Hotel OK"

The hotel serves its purpose well for a stay in Aguas Calientes after a Machu Picchu tour. The reception staff are friendly and helpful, offering luggage storage both before check-in and after check-out if you need to wait for your train. The facilities are adequate, and the breakfast is decent. The location is convenient.

"Family Visit to Machu Picchu"

I traveled with my husband and daughter and stayed in a lovely room with a river view. The room featured an enclosed terrace with a jacuzzi overlooking the river, which was a wonderful touch. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and the bathroom was adequate. There was a minibar stocked with good products. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was nothing extraordinary, but it was sufficient. The location is excellent—close to restaurants, shops, and just steps from the train station and the bus departure point for Machu Picchu.

"Don’t waste your money"

The staff were somewhat accommodating upon our arrival. However, the dining experience was disappointing—ordering a glass of wine was not possible, only full bottles, which seemed odd. When we wanted to enjoy the outdoor patio, we were only allowed 10 minutes before being asked to leave, and there was no bar as shown in the photos. Our in-room jacuzzi was not working, which was a big letdown since we were expecting a luxury stay. Dinner service was below par; the risotto was undercooked and overpriced considering the overall experience. I also booked a massage and facial—the service was just okay, not exceptional. The one highlight was the stunning river view from both the dining area and our room. It seems the hotel needs significant improvements, and perhaps once those are addressed, it could justify its cost. For now, I would not recommend it if you’re seeking a true luxury experience.

"Convenient location, very nice staff"

Conveniently located right across from the train station and the bus stop to Machu Picchu. The staff made a genuine effort, though it seemed like they were still learning on the job, which didn’t cause any issues. The restaurant was half empty, yet food and drinks took a very long time to arrive. The rooms and bathrooms were very comfortable, although the soap dispenser was empty.

"Interesting location for a hotel"

This is a charming boutique hotel with small but clean rooms. Due to limited space, the lobby doubles as the breakfast and dinner area during meal times. The wait staff are very attentive, and the service is good overall. The front desk staff are friendly and welcoming. If you’re looking for peace and quiet, be aware that it’s hard to find in Aguas Calientes in general—and this hotel is no exception. The train tracks run literally right outside the hotel, so you can often see trains passing just 2 meters away from the lobby. It’s an interesting experience but can also be disruptive, as the rooms slightly shake when the trains go by. In the evenings, celebrations nearby can get quite loud, so bringing good earplugs is highly recommended. Some rooms face the river, which offers a nice view, while others face the train tracks or, in my case, a noisy construction site. Overall, if you stay here, be prepared with earplugs for a better night’s rest. Bgtoca

"Maybe look around at other hotels"

The ladies at the check-in desk were not very polite. The hotel has a strong, unpleasant odor in both the lobby and the rooms. The entire place feels extremely outdated. Thankfully, we only stayed for one night.

"Great service !"

Service, service, service — outstanding! The location is perfect, right by the train station when you get off, and within walking distance to many shops and restaurants. The restaurant was amazing, and the staff went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. The rooms were nice and comfortable — a great place for an overnight stay while visiting Machu Picchu.

"It’s not a boutique"

Casa del Sol markets itself as a boutique hotel, but it doesn’t quite live up to that image. The Wi-Fi signal barely reaches the rooms, and basic amenities like a safe and an iron are missing. Unfortunately, I found a spider in the bed, and the bathrooms showed signs of fungus. My first room lacked a nightstand, and when they changed it, the new room was missing shampoo refills and didn’t have the expected coffee cart. Additionally, during my stay, the terrace overlooking the river and the jacuzzi were not available. On the positive side, the staff were friendly and attentive, responding well to our complaints and suggestions.
