"A beautiful let down…"

We stayed at Barcelo Royal Level (Adults Only) for 7 nights with my partner, also visiting Barcelo Mar. The resort is aesthetically beautiful, but our experience was extremely disappointing due to poor service. Arrival was smooth, yet check-in felt cold and rushed. Despite no queue, we received minimal information about our Royal Level access, causing confusion throughout our stay. Our room was spotless and comfortable, but the air conditioning was so loud it disrupted sleep. It was frustrating to choose between cool and noisy or hot and peaceful. The resort grounds were stunning, especially the Royal Level pool area, though there were too few loungers and umbrellas. Towel shortages were frequent, and even after complaints, staff response was slow—once taking 90 minutes to provide additional towels. Food was inconsistent. The Royal Level buffet (Tere Sana) offered fresh cold options but repetitive and often cold hot dishes. The Italian à la carte was tasty but hampered by poor service. The Mar buffet had more variety but struggled to replenish items during busy periods. Poolside food was fresh and enjoyable, though service quality varied depending on the staff. The biggest disappointment was the staff. Many were disengaged, unwelcoming, and occasionally rude. Simple interactions, like ordering drinks, were often met with silence or blank stares. Restaurant service lacked warmth, making us feel uncomfortable and undervalued. Management was visible but failed to address issues such as towel shortages and food delays. At one point, a bar manager even berated staff publicly, undermining professionalism. While the hotel looks like a 5-star resort, the service does not reflect it. For those who value genuine hospitality and attentive service, this property will disappoint. With proper training and leadership, it could be outstanding—but for now, we would not return or recommend it at this price point.

"Well done Barcelo!"

We had a wonderfully relaxing break at the Royal Level adults-only section—it was pure heaven. We spent our days lounging by the sea with plenty of sunbeds available, no rush to secure one, and excellent sunbed service via QR code. Drinks had plenty of choice, including very good cocktails, and the pool was lovely. The whole resort had been refurbished and looked stunning. Our room was large, with a comfortable seating balcony and thoughtfully provided toiletries. Breakfast offered lots of options and it was so enjoyable being in an adults-only setting. We also dined in the Mexican twice and the Brazilian once—both were excellent. Exploring the nearby village was easy and pleasant, with places to grab a drink or eat out. The only minor drawbacks were a slow Royal Level check-in and initial confusion with our room number, which made ordering at the bar a bit tricky. Perhaps being able to pay with a bracelet rather than a room number would improve the experience. Also, occasional sunbed service would be a luxury, as the app could be temperamental. A lovely touch was the evening chocolate left on our pillow! Overall, we had a fantastic time and would definitely return. Well done, Barcelo—exactly what a holiday should be.

"Food was a bit of a let down"

We stayed here for 7 nights and had a really nice time. There were three of us, and luckily we had a separate room that connected, which worked well. The staff were welcoming and helpful throughout our stay, ensuring we had everything we needed. The rooms were lovely and spacious with comfortable beds, though the floors were quite dirty. They provided water, but not enough considering tap water isn’t drinkable—fortunately, there’s a supermarket nearby. The food was fairly standard, with limited choices and often served cold. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner were quite repetitive, and flies around the food were off-putting. Fish was very popular, so fussy eaters or those who don’t like fish might struggle. Despite these drawbacks, we all enjoyed our stay and appreciated the helpful staff and comfortable rooms.

"Beautiful Pool, but Rooms and Amenities Disappoint"

The pool area is beautiful and well-maintained, and the poolside service for all-inclusive guests was very pleasant. However, some rooms have very small bedrooms, and the air conditioning, which is an add-on unit, is extremely noisy. Without it, sleeping in the summer is nearly impossible due to the heat. We didn’t want to leave the windows open as the rooms are on the ground floor. The TV is not a smart TV and only has a few basic channels. Based on the recommendations and reviews, our expectations were set too high.

"80% positive"

Firstly, it’s definitely worth paying extra for Royal Level, adults-only. As an active couple, it made our stay even better, with everything included to keep us entertained. The pool area was perfect—quiet, relaxing, and around lunchtime, the aqua gym provided some fun entertainment. The staff running activities, like James and another gentleman whose name I missed, were brilliant. Our room was lovely and clean, though we did encounter a gecko. Unfortunately, the staff were unhelpful—one man seemed terrified, and a lady appeared unsure what to do—so we had to handle it ourselves after two nights. The Royal Level buffet was exceptional, though roughly 70% of the staff were rude. A small incident with a drink highlighted this: I asked for a Fanta Zero but was initially given full-fat Fanta, and when I clarified, the staff poured it into a cup laughing. While the food itself was excellent, other restaurants like the Mexican had smaller portions and often cold dishes, limiting our options. The app was helpful for booking activities and organizing our holiday, though requests for amenities were sometimes slow. Reception could be slow with only one staff member, but this wasn’t an issue for us. Overall, our stay at Barceló was brilliant thanks to the Royal Level food, pool area, and activities—we thoroughly enjoyed our time.

"Bad food quality"

The food was consistently cold and sometimes inedible. Considering the cost of the holiday, it should have been much better. Hot food was only available at lunchtime from a small menu of about six dishes, two of which were burgers. I tried a fish dish and it made me ill. Unfortunately, the poor quality of the food completely spoiled the holiday.

"Anniversary Holiday"

A pleasant hotel with a relaxed vibe. The staff and service were very good, though the food was hit and miss at times, needing to be hotter and replenished more frequently. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back. :)

"Rooms were good staff lovely BUT under staffed and food was dyer"

The rooms were excellent, and the staff were incredibly nice and friendly. Unfortunately, the hotel seemed seriously under-staffed, which made service frustrating at times. The food was very disappointing. There were poor choices most days—often just a cheese roll—and even when dishes were decent, they were consistently served cold, sometimes immediately after being put out. It really let down an otherwise pleasant stay.

"Great stay, great staff."

Our hotel chalet was very nice and conveniently close to shops, the beach, the swimming pool, and restaurants. The food at the adults-only restaurant was fantastic, so we didn’t need to travel elsewhere for meals. The staff were very attentive and always willing to help—special mentions to Jessica from housekeeping, who kept our accommodation spotless, and James, who ran the poolside entertainment brilliantly. Cocktails and food at the pool bar were lovely, with excellent waitress service. The only minor negatives were the “sunbed wars” in the morning, which could be managed by having the lifeguard mark times on the beds. It was frustrating when towels were put down at 8 a.m. but the beds weren’t used until late afternoon. Another small issue was paying the drinks bill at checkout; the receptionist charged €347 but had trouble refunding €14 from a restaurant we hadn’t visited. He did try his best, but we had to leave for the transfer bus. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would happily return.

"Holiday"

There was far too much information to process upon arrival, which caused frustration and wasted holiday time trying to locate restaurants and other facilities. The WiFi was also limited and kept cutting out, adding to the inconvenience.
