"Good Stay but Beware of Surprise Charges"
Overall, our stay was enjoyable—the facilities were clean, the food was decent for an all-inclusive, and the location is stunning. Most of the staff were friendly and professional, though a couple of the bar staff could certainly work on their attitude. The real disappointment came at checkout. I had completed the online checkout, which clearly showed no outstanding balance. Yet, when I went to reception to return my key card, the receptionist suddenly claimed I owed €30 for two burgers and a beer. As I was on all-inclusive and never ordered these items, I questioned it. Instead of offering an explanation, she brushed it off with, “It’s fine,” which felt dismissive and unprofessional. It came across like an attempt to slip in a bogus charge, hoping I wouldn’t notice. This left a sour ending to what was otherwise a good experience. Tip: Always keep your receipts, double-check your online balance before leaving, and don’t hesitate to challenge suspicious charges at checkout.
"Good Stay but Rooms Need Updating"
The hotel was clean and generally well-maintained, although the rooms are starting to show their age, with some scuffed furniture noticeable. I opted for half board, which included breakfast and the choice of either lunch or dinner. However, drinks weren’t included—even water had to be paid for, which was a little disappointing since many hotels provide a dispenser. Despite this, the overall experience was good and enjoyable.
"Fantastic First Stay – Special Thanks to Carlos and Team"
This was my first visit to the hotel, and it certainly won’t be my last. All the staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay, but I have to give special recognition to Carlos and his team at the pool bar. Nothing was ever too much trouble for them, and Carlos was always happy to answer questions about what was available. The bar had a chilled, relaxed atmosphere, and service was always prompt without ever feeling rushed. It was clear that his whole team worked really well together, which made the experience even better.
"Lovely Hotel with Great Facilities, but Food Could Be Better"
This is a lovely hotel—spotlessly clean, with good entertainment and always plenty of sunbeds available. The pools are beautifully warm, with the added bonus of a jacuzzi, making it a great choice for both adults and families. There’s no need to dress up too glamorously here, which keeps the atmosphere relaxed. If you’re staying half board, I’d recommend popping over the road to buy large bottles of water, as the hotel only provides two small bottles on the first night (along with tea and coffee). The gym is located just outside the complex, and you’ll need to book a session via the app. The main downside for us was the food—it felt rather bland at times, with undercooked chips, and the buffet layout was confusing. Dishes were scattered around, so you had to hunt for items. For instance, porridge was available in three different places, but there were no bowls nearby, meaning you had to search around for one (and then again for a spoon). Overall, it’s a very nice hotel with great facilities, though the dining experience could be improved.
"A Vibrant Holiday for All Generations – Exceeded Our Expectations!"
We recently stayed at the Barceló Fuerteventura Mar for 7 nights, and the hotel truly exceeded our expectations! From the warm welcome at check-in to the wonderful service throughout our stay, everything was handled with care and attention. Our room was modern, clean, spacious, and very comfortable. We really appreciated the thoughtful touches like complimentary tea, coffee, and toiletries. The housekeeping team was also very friendly and efficient. The buffet restaurant offered plenty of choice at both breakfast and dinner. The system was very well managed, meaning no long queues and quick, attentive service even at busy times. The restaurant was always kept tidy, which made dining stress-free. The hotel pools were brilliant—whether you wanted the quiet pool, the kid’s pool, or the warm saltwater pool (which was so relaxing once you got used to it). Entertainment and activities were offered daily, with the foam party being a highlight for us! The location was another huge plus: right by the beach and just a few minutes’ walk from shops and restaurants. Puerto Castillo marina is nearby too, offering boat trips and water sports for those who want more adventure. What made our stay truly special was the lively and vibrant atmosphere throughout the hotel. Evening entertainment was professional and varied, with a different show each night. Normally we skip hotel entertainment, but here we didn’t miss a single one—it was that good! Another great feature was the hotel’s mobile app, which made it so easy to keep track of activities and plan our days. This was a first for us, and we found it incredibly useful. We traveled as a three-generation family—my mum (53), myself (31), and my niece (6)—and we all had an amazing time. It just goes to show that Barceló Fuerteventura Mar really is a hotel for everyone. The only downside was that we couldn’t stay longer! We didn’t get a chance to try the spa facilities because we loved the pools so much, but even without that, this was easily our favorite hotel experience to date. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Fuerteventura—it delivers on every front!
"A Relaxing All-Inclusive Stay"
We had a really enjoyable week at this hotel. Its location is very convenient, just about 15 minutes by coach from the airport. Being all-inclusive, we appreciated the wide selection of food and drinks available throughout our stay. The pool bar was a lovely spot with both indoor and outdoor seating, where snacks and light meals were also served. A pleasant surprise was the heated pool, which made swimming even more enjoyable. While there were plenty of sun loungers around the pool, many of them lacked shade, which could be improved. The beach is less than a two-minute walk away, and the promenade makes it easy to explore more bars and restaurants in either direction. Overall, it was a relaxing and well-rounded holiday experience.
"Royal Level Experience – Worth It, but Room for Improvement"
Firstly, I’d say it’s definitely worth paying the extra for Royal Level, adults only. We were a little unsure at first, but as an active couple it was absolutely the right choice, as everything was included to keep us entertained. The pool area was perfect—quiet and relaxing, with aqua gym sessions around lunchtime that added some fun. James and his colleague running the sessions were brilliant. Our room was lovely and clean, though we did have an unwelcome visitor—a gecko. Unfortunately, the staff were not very helpful with this issue. One man seemed terrified, and another staff member simply said she didn’t know what to do. We ended up sleeping two nights with it in the room before managing to get it out ourselves. Food in the Royal Level buffet was exceptional, and it really stood out as a highlight of our stay. However, about 70% of the staff came across as rude. For example, when I asked for a Fanta Zero, I was handed a full-fat bottle. When I politely asked again, two staff members stormed off and returned with a cup of regular Fanta, clearly laughing as though I wouldn’t notice. This felt disrespectful—and could have been dangerous if I had been diabetic. The Mexican restaurant also fell short, with limited choices and food that was often cold, so our dining options were narrowed. That said, we were very happy overall with the Royal Level food. The app was very useful for booking restaurants and planning activities, though requests for amenities were slow. Royal Level reception staff also matched some of the negative reviews I’d read—usually only one person available, often already serving another guest. That said, reception was only a short walk away, so it didn’t impact us much. Overall, our time at Barceló was brilliant because of the things we planned, the great food in the Royal Level buffet, and the relaxing pool area. There were definitely some frustrations with service, but the experience was still very enjoyable and memorable.
"An Amazing 10-Day Holiday at Barceló Fuerteventura Mar"
We enjoyed a wonderful 10-day stay at Barceló Fuerteventura Mar. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, and we spent countless hours relaxing in the beautiful pools. The Breeze Bar by the pool was a real highlight of the resort, offering delicious food and drinks served by a team that was always friendly and efficient. A special thanks goes to Carlos, whose warmth, kindness, and attentive hospitality made each day even more enjoyable—he ensured everything ran smoothly and that guests had everything they needed. Overall, it was a truly memorable holiday, and we look forward to returning again in the future.
"A Wonderful Family Stay with Exceptional Service"
My wife and our two boys had a fantastic stay at this hotel. Its location was very convenient, with plenty of shops just a short five-minute walk away. The property itself was modern, spotless, and well-maintained. We especially enjoyed the wide variety of food options offered daily. The staff at the Tindaya buffet were warm and attentive, and our dining experience at the Mexican buffet was equally delightful. Kayla, in particular, stood out for her kindness and exemplary service, making us feel truly welcome. During a challenging moment, the hotel manager went above and beyond to assist us with genuine empathy, which we deeply appreciated. Overall, this was a memorable experience, and we would be more than happy to return. Would you like me to make it slightly shorter for a travel site review style, or keep it a bit detailed like this for a testimonial style?
"Disappointing Return Stay"
I don’t usually write long reviews, but having stayed here before, I feel it’s important to mention that the hotel has gone downhill. During our stay, several lifts were out of service, floor tiles were loose or broken, and the pool areas were not kept as clean as expected. Sunbed disputes were a daily issue, and the restrictive rules made the experience less enjoyable. As regular guests of Barceló, we left feeling disappointed, especially considering the high price compared to the quality received.
"A Perfectly Relaxing Escape"
What an incredibly relaxing break we had! We stayed in the Royal Level adults-only section, and it truly felt like heaven. Our days were spent lounging by the sea, simply unwinding while enjoying the stunning views from the comfortable sunbeds—always available without the stress of rushing to reserve one. The added touch of sunbed service through a convenient QR code made it even more enjoyable, allowing us to sip our favorite drinks without ever leaving our spot.
"Great Stay with Excellent Service"
We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The rooms were comfortable and well-kept, and the food was consistently good. The staff were very helpful, with a special mention to our waiter Paulo, who stood out as one of the hardest working and most attentive members of the team—his personal service and sense of humour really made our trip more memorable. The location by the sea is lovely, although the nearby beach isn’t the best, and it does take some time to reach the nicer ones. While the Barceló app was not very useful for finding activities, there was still plenty going on around the resort to keep us entertained.
"A Wonderful Week at an Impressive Resort"
We have just returned from a fantastic week at this impressive hotel and couldn’t be happier with our stay. The resort is large and well-equipped, offering a wide variety of food, entertainment, and activities for all ages. We were fortunate to have two spacious, clean rooms next to each other, both overlooking the quieter of the two large pools and the nearby beach—an ideal location for relaxation. Check-in was quick and effortless, and daily housekeeping was carried out discreetly and efficiently. Most of our time was spent by the quieter pool, where there was always a good supply of sunbeds. While the ones under the straw umbrellas went early, there were plenty of other shaded areas, meaning there was never a stressful scramble for a spot. The poolside areas were clean and comfortable, with drinks and snacks always available from the bar. At times there were short queues at the pool bar, the main bar in the evening, and the buffet restaurant during peak hours, but these were managed swiftly thanks to the welcoming and efficient staff. The sports facilities nearby were excellent—we enjoyed padel tennis, basketball, tennis, and even mini-golf. The hotel’s location is also perfect, just a short stroll from local bars, shops, and restaurants. The basic all-inclusive package even extends discounts to nearby beachfront restaurants; we took advantage of this at the Italian restaurant in the harbour, where the pizzas were delicious. Evenings were well spent in the impressive showroom, where entertainment ranged from live singers and a lively magic show to bingo, a DJ/disco, and karaoke, all hosted by a charismatic and engaging presenter. The buffet restaurant was another highlight, with freshly prepared dishes at live cooking stations each day—meats, fish, and pasta in the evenings, and omelettes, pancakes, eggs, and bacon at breakfast. One small suggestion would be to add a clear vegetarian symbol to the food labels, but overall, the variety and quality were excellent. Like any large hotel, a few minor imperfections are inevitable, but they in no way detracted from what was an outstanding holiday. With its relaxing atmosphere, great facilities, and friendly, attentive service, this hotel exceeded our expectations. We would gladly recommend it and are already looking forward to returning.
"Relaxing Stay with Great Food and Friendly Service"
We stayed in mid-August on a half-board basis and chose the Premier option, which turned out to be an excellent decision. It allowed us to skip the long dinner queues and enjoy a quieter dining area. The food was a real highlight, with plenty of variety at the buffet each day, and we especially loved the Mexican restaurant. A tip for future guests: book the specialty restaurants through the app as soon as you arrive, as they fill up quickly—we only managed one booking during our 8-day stay. Our room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, with beautiful views. We had two minor issues—one with the air conditioning and one with the sofa bed—but both were resolved promptly. The pool area was nice, featuring three saltwater pools, although it did get very busy and there weren’t enough loungers for the number of guests. Another small frustration was that the hotel shop sells inflatable pool toys, yet one lifeguard wouldn’t allow them in the pool while another did, which felt inconsistent. The location is excellent, close to the airport and right by a pleasant beach. We also enjoyed being able to dine in the neighbouring restaurants. Despite what some reviews mention, we never experienced long waits for drinks and always found it easy to order cocktails at the bar. The restaurant, buffet, and bar staff were all wonderfully friendly, making our stay even more enjoyable.
"An Unforgettable Brazilian Dining Experience"
We had an absolutely fantastic dining experience at this authentic Brazilian restaurant located right within our hotel in Fuerteventura! From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome and well looked after. The concept is brilliant—a Brazilian grill where a variety of perfectly cooked, flavorful meats are brought directly to your table. The salad bar was also excellent, offering plenty of fresh and tasty options to complement the meal. What really made the evening stand out was the outstanding service. The team was attentive and friendly, always ensuring our drinks were topped up and happily providing extra condiments or sides whenever we asked. The warm, lively atmosphere combined with the friendliness of the staff made it feel like a true taste of Brazil in the Canary Islands. A special thanks to Carol, Cami, Louis, Fatima, and Avril—you made the evening unforgettable. Highly recommended to anyone staying at the hotel or nearby—this is one dining experience you won’t want to miss!
"Disappointing Stay That Fell Short of Expectations"
The website advertises three pools, two of which are supposed to be for adults, but in reality children were using all of them. This, along with the loud daytime music, made it difficult to relax. Finding a sunbed was also nearly impossible, as many were reserved with towels early in the morning and then left vacant all day—something the hotel really needs to monitor. On a positive note, the rooms were cleaned daily with bedding changed on request, and the beds and pillows were extremely comfortable. Food and drinks were available at all hours, and the all-inclusive drinks selection was impressive. However, as a guest with dietary requirements, I was disappointed by the lack of alternative options, particularly dairy replacements at breakfast and limited snack bar choices during the day. The bar staff worked hard but were clearly over-stretched, resulting in frequent queues. We had two connecting rooms, and while one was fine, the air conditioning in the other was noticeably weaker. Despite reporting this issue via the app, it was never resolved, leaving the room uncomfortably hot throughout our stay. Overall, for a family of four, the holiday was not cheap, and sadly, the experience did not live up to the expectations set by the website.
"My Happy Place – Already Booked Again!"
This was my second stay at the hotel, and I’ve already booked again for the winter—it really does feel like my happy place. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, complete with air conditioning, a fridge, a great shower, and very cozy beds. The layout of the hotel is lovely, and the location couldn’t be better—just a minute from both the beach and the shops. Despite its central location, I never heard any noise at all during my stay. This year I was lucky enough to have a ground-floor room with a terrace and sun loungers, which really made my holiday extra special. I spent my first afternoon relaxing while watching families enjoying a foam pool party—it looked like so much fun! The food is always good, with plenty of options to keep you satisfied, though the only downside is that drinks at dinner aren’t included. I can’t comment on the evening entertainment as we didn’t use it, but being so close to the airport is another big bonus—you can be at the hotel and relaxing less than an hour after landing. All in all, this hotel continues to be my go-to getaway, and I look forward to enjoying it for many years to come.
"A Perfect Anniversary Stay"
We stayed in a deluxe room with SPA access included to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, and it was a truly memorable experience. The hotel made our arrival extra special with a bottle of Cava waiting in the room, which was a lovely touch. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and overlooked the pool, providing the perfect setting for a relaxing stay. The dining options were excellent, with a wide variety of quality food in the main restaurant, and we especially enjoyed our meals at the Mexican and Brazilian restaurants. Daily access to the SPA was a highlight of our trip, adding an extra layer of relaxation. Every member of staff we met was friendly and helpful, contributing to the welcoming atmosphere throughout the hotel. All in all, it was a wonderfully relaxing holiday and a perfect way to celebrate our anniversary.
"Outstanding Service and Delicious Dining"
We enjoyed two fantastic meals at the Barceló Fuerteventura Mar, dining at both the Brazilian and Mexican restaurants. The food was excellent on both occasions, but what truly made the experience special was the service—especially from Ettore. He welcomed us warmly each time and went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. From accommodating dietary requirements to quickly resolving a reservation issue, nothing was too much trouble for him. Ettore is a real asset to the team, and we are so grateful for his exceptional service. Thank you so much!
"Mixed Experience – Disappointed with Food, but Staff Shone"
I was originally going to give this hotel 3 stars, but the incredibly kind and helpful staff (with the exception of a few bar staff) earned it an extra star. Special thanks to Marie and Maggie, who provided truly outstanding service. The rooms were fine—nothing special, but comfortable enough. However, they were quite noisy, with sounds easily carrying from the hallway and neighboring rooms. The biggest letdown was the food. It was often lukewarm or even cold, lacked freshness, and overall just wasn’t very enjoyable. On the positive side, the hotel’s location is beautiful, and parking was easy and convenient. Edited: While I appreciate the hotel’s response, I felt parts of it came across as dismissive. Phrases like the culinary team “maintains high standards” and the hotel being “designed to provide a peaceful environment” seemed to undermine my personal experience rather than acknowledge it. I shared my feedback honestly and would have preferred a reply that addressed my concerns directly instead of defending the standards. Because of this, I have lowered my rating by one star.
