"Koh Samui sEascape."
It’s been a few years since my last visit to Koh Samui, and the island has changed beautifully. There’s now a great mix of energy and chill—vibrant F&B spots and lively clubs, yet still plenty of quiet corners to unwind. The resort itself was peaceful and never felt crowded, allowing us to enjoy all facilities at our own pace. Breakfast was always a highlight, offering a generous and varied spread. A special shoutout to Michael W., whose attentive service truly elevated our stay. He ensured all our requests were handled promptly, even when he wasn’t on-site, which we deeply appreciated. Overall, this stay perfectly balanced relaxation and convenience, making it an ideal choice for returning visitors looking to enjoy Koh Samui at their own rhythm.
"A very mixed experience……"
We stayed at W Koh Samui to celebrate my husband’s birthday, and the hotel truly excelled in hospitality. From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond—decorations, snacks, sparkling wine in the room, and special acknowledgements at almost every dinner made us feel celebrated and welcomed. The food was outstanding, from beachside snacks to in-room dining and the beach BBQ. Everything we tried, especially the Thai dishes, was flavorful and perfectly spiced. Chef Bee even shared the recipe for the best chicken satay sauce we’ve ever had! The spa experience was equally impressive, providing relaxing treatments in a tranquil setting. The beach was quiet, well-arranged with loungers, and offered a lovely tropical shade. We also enjoyed the spectacular fire show at the main pool area, though weekend parties can get loud if staying nearby. However, our villa experience was disappointing. Originally booked for an Ocean View Haven Villa, we were upgraded to a Wow Jungle Oasis Villa due to the birthday occasion. While upgrades are usually welcome, this one lacked a proper view, and the condition of the villa was below expectations for a 5-star property: broken mini bar, unstable toilets, wonky lighting, stained walls, damaged decking, and chipped furniture. We voiced our concerns to the guest services manager, who handled it professionally and assured us the villa would undergo review. Overall, while the service, food, and amenities were wonderful, the villa issue significantly impacted our stay. This property excels in hospitality but requires attention to maintenance and accurate room representations.
"A nice, solid resort with all of the W brand charm and attitude."
We stayed for five nights in early January and truly enjoyed our time. The setting is stunning, making the rest of the world feel far away. Most of our stay was in an Ocean Haven villa, complete with a private pool and direct beach access via a short, private path. Waking up to catch the sunrise just steps from the sand was unforgettable. For anyone choosing accommodations, we highly recommend beachfront rooms over jungle or garden-view options, which are farther from the water and lack the same magical connection to Koh Samui. One night, we upgraded to the Wow Ocean Haven villa, and it was spectacular, with a large private pool, outdoor shower, and separate living and sleeping areas—a splurge well worth it. While some villas show signs of age and don’t appear as pristine as website photos, they remain spacious and comfortable. We also enjoyed a package that included Thai massages for two, a professional photo session with Ton, a cocktail class at the WooBar, and a floating breakfast. All were delightful experiences. Daily breakfast buffets were generous, with tasty food, bubbly drinks, and excellent service. Evening highlights included the WooBar’s fire show and the “Sweet” stations around the resort offering frozen treats. Staff across the resort, including Jane and Emelie, were friendly and helpful, while housekeeping was efficient and consistent. Overall, this resort delivers the charm, style, and signature energy that the W brand is known for—a solid, memorable stay in Koh Samui.
"Perfect"
I would like to give a special commendation to the beach waiter, Kim. His attentive and friendly service made our entire experience so much more enjoyable. Kim is truly a service champion—professional, charming, and genuinely caring. Thanks to his efforts, our trip and stay were elevated and made even more memorable. A heartfelt thank you to Kim for going above and beyond!
"Whatever-Whenever"
My wife and I just returned from a 10-day vacation at the W Hotel, and it was exactly the relaxing escape we needed after a demanding year. We also coordinated our trip to meet family on the island, so location was key, and Koh Samui could not have been more perfect. Booking through Emirates Holidays gave us confidence, as they ensure high standards, and our choice lived up to every expectation. From the moment Pei Pei checked us in, the “Whatever-Whenever” motto came to life—anything we needed was just a WhatsApp message away. The hotel itself is simply amazing. The beach is fantastic, the food and drinks are exceptional, breakfast is incredible (passion fruit butter is a highlight!), and the Japanese restaurant impressed both in cuisine and ambiance. The buggy drivers are personable and make you feel at home during every ride—special shoutout to Mac, the “worst driver ever,” who was actually fantastic. Our hilltop room offered breathtaking views, a spacious layout, and a perfect mattress. The pool is large enough to truly swim, not just dip, making relaxation effortless. The minor negatives: the climate affects materials, so some maintenance is needed, and staff occasionally suggest extra activities that are touristy. But these do not overshadow the experience. Overall, thanks to the W Hotel team, we left completely relaxed, recharged, and with amazing memories. A truly exceptional stay!
"Beautiful Hotel but Service falls short"
I recently stayed at the W Hotel in Koh Samui, and while the property is undeniably beautiful and luxurious, the service did not meet my expectations for a hotel of this caliber. Having stayed at W Hotels worldwide, I was disappointed that the service here did not match the high standards I’ve come to expect. For the hefty price tag, I would likely recommend considering other options in Thailand. That said, a few standout staff members truly made a difference—special thanks to Amie from Guest Services, Mark from FIT, Boy, and Ball. Their attentive and warm hospitality went above and beyond, making me feel genuinely welcome. Unfortunately, beyond these exceptional individuals, service was inconsistent. I often had to call for assistance, and it sometimes took a long time to receive drinks or service. For a luxury hotel, I expected more proactive and seamless service. The setting, amenities, and overall design are lovely, but the inconsistent service left a lasting impression. With improved attention to detail and consistency, W Koh Samui could truly live up to the W brand’s reputation.
"Anniversary celebrations at W KohSamui"
We visited W Koh Samui to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary, and the experience was truly memorable. The property is stunning, with every room featuring its own private pool, creating a perfect blend of luxury and privacy. The hotel staff was welcoming and attentive, and we want to give special recognition to Ammie, who went above and beyond to assist us from check-in to check-out. Her thoughtful suggestions about the local area made our stay even more enjoyable. The hotel surprised us with a beautiful setup of cake and chocolates for our anniversary, and they arranged a luxurious hot bubble bath with rose petals, making our stay extra special. Every detail was carefully considered, and it truly enhanced our celebration. Overall, W Koh Samui exceeded our expectations, and we highly recommend it to anyone planning a visit to Koh Samui.
"OK but not necessarily worth the price."
The hotel is very nice, and the view from the hotel bar is fantastic. The staff are friendly and helpful, though not always reliable when it comes to timings and arrangements, such as reservations for tennis, scooter rentals, or other activities. The hotel bar is also relatively expensive. Our room was comfortable but showed signs of wear, and the air conditioning blew directly onto the bed, making it necessary to turn it off at night to avoid a constant draft. This caused the room temperature to rise to around 29°C. During our 3-night stay, private events took place on two of the evenings (from 4:00 p.m. to midnight), which disrupted our time at the beach. Unfortunately, we were only informed about this upon arrival via an information sheet in the room. Overall, the hotel is pleasant but nothing exceptional. The price-to-performance ratio feels a bit low considering these issues.
"Good service"
Our stay at W Koh Samui was truly memorable, thanks to the wonderful hospitality we experienced. Ammie was incredible—from helping us check in to assisting with every aspect of our stay, she went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. The hotel itself is beautiful, with a relaxing ambience, excellent food, and attentive service. The staff not only made our stay enjoyable but also helped ensure that the rest of our trip was equally memorable. A big thank you to Ammie and the entire team for making our time at W Koh Samui so special.
"OK stay but other Ws are better"
This review is based on the price point of the hotel versus others in the region. We have travelled extensively across Asia, including multiple stays in Koh Samui, and I am also a Marriott Ambassador member, having spent over 100 nights in Marriott-branded hotels last year, which provides a solid basis for comparison. In summary, the hotel is pleasant with a nice room. Our villa was spacious, with good shower pressure, a comfortable bed, blackout curtains, and a private, relaxing outdoor area. Breakfast was a highlight, with good service and a wide variety of options. However, several issues affected our stay: 1. Room Maintenance: There were multiple maintenance problems: a malfunctioning water sprinkler flooding and smelling like sewage, a broken toilet flusher, persistent noise, non-functional USB ports, faulty lights, broken shower holders, damaged pool and deck areas, rotted wood, and other minor but cumulative issues. While some were addressed after reporting, overall it gave the impression of neglect. 2. Design and Amenities: Some items were poorly designed or missing: no outdoor speakers, limited plug sockets, early turndown service, cold pool water due to positioning, and weak Wi-Fi in certain areas. These small details impacted convenience and comfort. 3. Price Point: Food and drinks were overpriced for Thailand. For example, a beer cost over 200 THB compared to 40 THB at local shops, and merchandise in the hotel shop was heavily marked up. 4. Food and Service: Breakfast was nice but inconsistent. Beach and bar service was slow, and some facilities like towel service and the pool table appeared neglected. Requests at checkout were met with minimal attention. 5. Spa and Gym: The facial did not feel worth the price. Gym equipment and facilities were not fully maintained, and some features, such as mirrors and weights, were damaged or incomplete. 6. Sustainability: The hotel’s sustainability efforts seemed limited, with minimal solar panel usage and excessive disposable packaging for amenities. Overall, the hotel is nice, but for a luxury brand, these shortfalls make the price point feel less justified. Attention to detail, maintenance, and value for money would significantly improve the experience.
