The Pierre, A Taj Hotel, New York

"Service is above and Beyond"
I stayed at The Pierre with friends during the US Open in August/September 2025 and was thoroughly impressed. The service was excellent, and the location could not have been better. Dining at Perrine was a highlight—both the food and the service stood out as exceptional. On the downside, drinks at Two Bar were quite expensive, and shared rooms come with twin beds rather than larger options. That said, the beds were so comfortable that the smaller size was hardly an issue. Overall, The Pierre has quickly become one of my favorite hotels in New York City.
"Great hotel"
The hotel boasts a superb location and offers excellent service, with a lovely concierge team that went above and beyond to make the stay enjoyable. Overall, the experience was very positive, though I found the front desk to be a bit less welcoming than expected, which felt somewhat unusual for The Pierre.
"Top location but a serious renovation to be considered"
The hotel boasts a fantastic location with a pleasant atmosphere and spacious bedrooms. While the bathrooms are very nice, the décor and overall comfort feel a bit dated and could use renovation. The air conditioning is somewhat noisy, but the view over Central Park is truly wonderful.
"Beautiful hotel, great location, service meh"
The Pierre is a grand, classic gem across from Central Park, steps from Tiffany and Bergdorf Goodman, complete with elevator operators and a breathtaking ballroom. The property exudes old-world charm and elegance. Unfortunately, the service fell short of expectations. Upon arrival, the check-in clerk, Melissa, was unfriendly and handed us a key for a king room, which was clearly inadequate for me and my two teenage daughters attending an awards ceremony. The next morning, we discovered the hot water was lukewarm, and although maintenance offered a room change, we chose to stay due to time constraints. During the morning rush, both maintenance and housekeeping repeatedly interrupted us, adding stress before my acceptance speech. While housekeeping promptly delivered an iron upon request, the overall
"Location and service: five stars. Room quality: 2 stars. Overall hotel appearance: 3 stars."
On the positive side, the hotel offers a fantastic location and genuinely friendly service from all staff members. However, the room did not meet the expectations one would have for a property of this reputation. The air conditioner was noisy, cycling on and off throughout the night and disturbing our sleep. The carpet had visible stains, and despite an upgrade to a deluxe room through Amex, the space felt surprisingly small. Additionally, some basic hospitality touches, such as bottled water and glasses, were missing. To add to this, the shower on Saturday did not provide sufficient hot water. While the overall experience had its bright spots, the room quality left much to be desired.
"Refined midtown retreat"
While staying at the Plaza Hotel, which was quite disappointing, we craved Indian food after days of breads, burgers, and pizzas in New York. By chance, we passed The Pierre by Taj and decided to step inside. From the doorman to the restaurant manager, every member of the staff was warm and welcoming—such a contrast to our experience at the Plaza. We were delighted to find authentic dishes like kadhi pakora, paranthas, and mango chutney on the menu, and the food was simply outstanding. The staff’s hospitality was remarkable, and the service, true to the Taj reputation, was impeccable. We even packed some food to take with us. I would highly recommend not just dining but also staying at The Pierre if you are visiting New York.
"Hits and Misses"
The highlights of our stay were definitely the location and the staff, both of which were truly outstanding. However, we found the suite to be disappointing – it offered only a small closet and a bathroom that did not live up to the expectations of a 5-star property. While the deluxe room we also had was fine, the suite fell short. Additionally, certain pricing felt excessive, especially when compared to other luxury hotels in New York where we have stayed. Overall, unless there is a significant price difference in the future, we are unlikely to return given the stronger options available at nearby 5-star properties.
"One of the best NYC hotels"
The Pierre was an amazing experience overall. Our room was pristine and quiet, with fantastic service provided by an incredible staff. Everything about the stay reflected quality and care. The only frustration came at checkout when we were charged a daily resort fee. For instance, we were never informed at check-in that a driver was available at the door, supposedly included in this fee, nor were we told about the spa. Without being made aware of these amenities, the added charge felt unfair. Aside from that, it was a truly wonderful stay.
"avoid courtyard view !"
The only reason I withheld giving an “excellent” rating is the condition of the interiors. While the hotel is grand and carries a certain charm, it is in need of refurbishment. Many iconic hotels, such as The Ritz in London or Paris, manage to preserve their heritage while shining like new, and even the Victoria Jungfrau in Interlaken feels as if it’s freshly renovated. Here, the explanation often given is that it’s a residence-cum-hotel, but ultimately, a soft renovation is overdue. That said, the service more than makes up for this shortcoming – the staff, including Mr. Dancer and the concierge team, were outstanding. A special mention goes to Saransh, whose warmth and effort to comfort every guest reflect the very qualities all Front Office Managers should embody. Keep it up!
"Juwel"
The Pierre Hotel in New York is truly a gem overlooking Central Park, radiating elegance and distinctive charm from the moment you step inside. Its unbeatable location places you right by the park and within walking distance of some of the city’s finest shopping and cultural landmarks. Service here is exceptional – the staff are attentive, professional, and genuinely warm, creating a welcoming atmosphere throughout your stay. Rooms are spacious, impeccably maintained, and offer breathtaking views of Manhattan or Central Park, while the gastronomy, especially the breakfast, stands out for its variety and exceptional quality. Although the hotel favors classic elegance over modern design and lacks a pool, these details hardly diminish its allure. Overall, The Pierre is an ideal choice for travelers seeking a luxurious and authentic New York experience steeped in timeless sophistication.
"Good but not brilliant"
The Pierre felt older, less well-maintained, and not as clean as in past visits, with service noticeably less attentive – particularly from housekeeping, the concierge desk, front desk, and doormen. The exceptions were the extremely polite elevator operators and Denzel from the concierge team, who stood out for their professionalism and courtesy.
"Classic always surprises"
My experience at The Pierre was wonderful from start to finish. I booked through Expedia, and the reservation included breakfast, which turned out to be a real highlight. Instead of a standard buffet, guests receive a generous $60 credit per person to order directly from the menu. With $120 to spend, we enjoyed top-quality dishes such as a gruyere omelette with tomatoes, eggs Benedict, and the most spectacular hotcakes, all served with fresh fruit, juice, and excellent coffee. Breakfast at The Pierre is truly an experience in itself. As an Expedia Platinum customer, I was recognized at check-in and offered a complimentary upgrade to a spacious corner room with an amazing view—a thoughtful gesture I greatly appreciated. Another memorable touch was the live jazz band at the bar in the evening, which created the perfect atmosphere to end the day after exploring the city. The location is also unbeatable, with a subway station just a block away, making it easy for my son, who lives in the Financial District, to meet us and get around conveniently. While the rooms could benefit from a light renovation, the timeless elegance, outstanding service, and classic hospitality more than make up for it. From being greeted by name upon arrival to the unique touch of elevator attendants, The Pierre offers an old-world charm that is increasingly rare. In conclusion, The Pierre remains a truly special hotel where tradition, service, and attention to detail come together seamlessly. For me, it’s an easy 5/5.
