The Knickerbocker

"Historic Hotel"
We chose the Knickerbocker Hotel for a seven-night stay to celebrate our Silver Wedding Anniversary. While the hotel itself is attractive, with two bars, we were disappointed by the limited opening hours— the Martini Bar closes at 10 PM and the St. Cloud Rooftop Bar at 11 PM. On our last night, we arrived at the rooftop only to be told there was no table service and that we could have just one drink at the bar—limited to beer or wine. Not exactly “The City that Never Sleeps.” Several issues detracted from our experience, especially given the premium price. On arrival, the hotel requested our credit card for incidentals, which we understood. However, we were shocked to see a pending charge for the full week’s stay despite having paid in full beforehand. After emailing receipts and following up multiple times, the pending charge remained for five days, causing unnecessary frustration. Our room was spacious, clean, and well-equipped with a safe, fridge, hairdryer, iron, and Diptique toiletries. However, there were no tea or coffee facilities, which we found disappointing. The hotel was also covered in scaffolding, resulting in no views—a detail that was not communicated at booking. While we were advised of a room upgrade for our anniversary, the outlook was blocked, and we were told to keep our blinds closed due to ongoing work outside. Beyond that, there was no acknowledgment of our special occasion. Overall, while we enjoyed aspects of our stay, the lack of proactive service and attention to detail left us disappointed. For future trips to New York, we would likely choose a different hotel, as sometimes a premium price does not guarantee a premium experience.
"Top notch and location, location, location."
The hotel has a fantastic location and the staff provided the very best treatment throughout our stay. Transportation was arranged for our departure during the UN Assembly, which was extremely convenient. I would highly recommend this hotel to family and friends.
"Classy Hotel!"
The Knickerbocker is a lovely hotel located just off Times Square. While the exterior is currently covered in scaffolding due to renovations, we were automatically upgraded to a spacious, modern room that still offered a street view. The Japanese restaurant serves excellent sushi, and the Rooftop Bar is stunning, offering a beautiful space to relax. Room service breakfast was fantastic, and Jake's Coffee nearby makes a great flat white. Overall, a very comfortable and convenient stay with some excellent dining options.
"Beautiful hotel, excellent staff and facilities."
My husband and I had the most incredible experience at this beautiful hotel. From the moment we arrived, Erica and Tim ensured we had the perfect room, while the Concierge team went above and beyond to fulfill every request. Housekeeping serviced our room meticulously each day, and the evening turndown service was a lovely touch. The rooms are gorgeous, the bed exceptionally comfortable, and the bathroom lighting excellent. The hotel’s location is perfect, with a café, restaurants, and a fantastic rooftop bar. Every aspect of our week-long stay exceeded expectations, and we will definitely be returning. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting New York.
"All good but one."
The Knickerbocker is a nice hotel just off Times Square. Although the exterior is under renovation and covered in scaffolding, we were upgraded to a spacious, modern room with a street view. The Japanese restaurant serves great sushi, and the Rooftop Bar is beautiful. Room service breakfast was excellent, and Jake’s Coffee nearby makes a perfect flat white. The only downside was that the lobby staff repeatedly asked me for taxi rides, which felt a bit pushy. Overall, a very comfortable and convenient stay with fantastic dining options.
"Disappointing"
We stayed for three nights at the beginning of July. The hotel is in an excellent location, the building is very clean and tidy, and the staff were fantastic—especially Diane at the concierge desk, who went above and beyond. However, our room was extremely small, almost feeling like a lock-off from a family suite, leaving barely enough space to walk around the bed. We politely requested a move, but were told the hotel was fully booked. Additionally, if the rooftop bar was a reason for booking, be aware that during our stay it was completely unavailable for guests every night due to private parties. This was very disappointing, as we had hoped to relax there after long days exploring the city. Overall, excellent service and location, but the tiny rooms and inaccessible rooftop bar were major drawbacks.
"New York for the first time"
This hotel is ideally located for a first-time visit to New York City, with easy access to all Subway lines. Times Square was extremely busy, so we tended to avoid it, but the location made getting around very convenient. The beds were very comfortable, the bathroom was spacious, and fresh towels were provided daily. Our bed was turned down every night, which was a nice touch. The staff were friendly and helpful, and having a coffee shop on site was convenient. We only used the bar and rooftop bar once, and didn’t try the dining facilities due to price, though breakfast in the room was a special treat. One downside was having to request a kettle several times; when it finally arrived, it came without milk, so we ended up bringing our own tea-making supplies. Overall, a comfortable and well-located hotel that we would gladly stay at again.
"A time machine to when cuisine and service mattered."
A throwback to the golden days of luxury hotels and top-tier dining! Hali was an incredible and thoughtful server, and every dish was prepared to perfection 👌.
"VERY BAD HOTEL! STAY AWAY!!!!"
Our stay at this hotel was extremely disappointing. Upon check-in, we found several strands of hair on the bed, which is completely unacceptable for a property claiming 5-star standards. When we raised the issue, the manager, Kevin, was dismissive and rude rather than helpful or accommodating. Basic amenities, such as water, were not provided unless we paid an additional “residence fee,” which supposedly covers Wi-Fi, gym access, and two bottles of water per day—a policy that feels unreasonable and deceptive. The two bottles of water in our room were never replenished unless we repeatedly called the front desk. We requested a room change due to the poor condition of our room, but were told the hotel was full—despite online listings showing multiple available rooms. The mattress was badly worn, and the pillows were flat and extremely uncomfortable. It also felt like guests booking through third-party websites received substandard treatment. Kevin, the manager, remained dismissive throughout our stay and did not show any concern for our experience. Overall, the hotel fell far below expectations. We do not recommend staying here.
"Large Rooms, Great Location, and Friendly Service"
I had a very pleasant stay at this hotel. It’s in an excellent location right in Times Square, yet the room was surprisingly quiet. The room was very clean and spacious—one of the largest I’ve stayed in while visiting New York. The bathroom was well-designed and had everything I needed. Although the room was a bit dark, the automated blinds were a nice touch. Service throughout my stay was excellent. I didn’t get a chance to try the rooftop bar or restaurant, but I heard both are highly recommended.
