"A Mixed Experience at Le Cinq — Exceptional Food, Outdated Atmosphere"
Man, was I excited to dine here. My partner and I spent Christmas in Paris with our kids, and I booked Le Cinq because it consistently ranks among the top Michelin-starred restaurants in the world. The food was, without question, phenomenal. From the impossibly fluffy Parmesan waffle and farm-fresh Burgundy butter to the exquisite desserts and indulgent temptation trolley, every dish was a symphony of flavor and artistry. Each bite showcased the kitchen’s incredible skill and creativity — truly world-class cuisine. Unfortunately, the delight ended there. The atmosphere felt stuck in another era — one where women don’t pay and wilted roses pass for table décor. Nearly all the service staff were men, while the women seemed relegated to carrying trays or working the coat check. It was disappointing to see such an outdated dynamic in a restaurant of this caliber. We were also denied a look at the extensive wine list, despite it being placed beside us briefly before being whisked away. While I appreciate the rhythm of a chef’s tasting menu, having the opportunity to select wine a few courses in would have been perfectly reasonable. As for the main course, the elk dishes were mistakenly swapped — my partner’s well-done request and my chef’s-temperature order were served in reverse. And when the check arrived, the experience took another awkward turn: I was given a single white rose, while my partner — not me — was handed the bill, despite the reservation and payment being under my name. It felt unnecessarily presumptuous and outdated. While Le Cinq delivers some of the finest food in Paris, the overall experience is marred by antiquated customs and service missteps. For a modern, equally refined dining experience, I’d suggest exploring one of Paris’s more progressive Michelin-starred restaurants instead.
"Beautiful Setting and Impeccable Service, but an Underwhelming 3-Star Experience"
I dined here in mid-November and, unfortunately, left somewhat disappointed. For an esteemed three-star restaurant with a €530 menu, I expected a truly exceptional experience, but it fell short in several areas. To start, the amuse-bouches — especially the lobster — were excellent, and the bread was delightful, though I couldn’t understand why the butter was served so cold. The Dublin Bay prawn was good but far from extraordinary, while the sea bass with caviar was an absolute masterpiece and easily the highlight of the evening. The gratinated onions were intriguing, and the signature ham and mushroom gratin, while technically impressive and flavorful, didn’t quite live up to its legendary reputation. The smoked eel was bland and uninspired — I’ve had far better versions at non-Michelin establishments. The mignardises were mediocre, and the dairy iced dessert, though visually stunning, lacked flavor and ended up being one of the weakest dishes of the night. Fortunately, the crunchy grapefruit and iced chocolate that followed revived the experience, both beautifully executed, with the chocolate trolley providing a delicious and memorable finale. Overall, I felt that only about half of the dishes truly reflected a three-star level of excellence. By the time the first dessert was served, I had lost much of my initial excitement. Thankfully, the final courses helped restore some satisfaction. On the bright side, the service was impeccable — gracious, professional, and perfectly timed — and the dining room itself was stunning. While the setting and staff were flawless, the food simply didn’t deliver the consistent brilliance expected from a restaurant of this caliber.
"A Luxurious Culinary Experience at Le Cinq"
I had an unforgettable dining experience at Le Cinq. Since I wasn’t very hungry, I decided to go with the à la carte menu and chose the prawns, sea bass, and duck — each dish beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The prawns, in particular, were the highlight of my meal. In true Michelin-starred fashion, the restaurant offered complimentary amuse-bouches and desserts, adding a touch of elegance and surprise to the evening. They even gifted me a few small, thoughtful items, which made the experience feel extra special and personal. The setting itself is stunning, with a refined atmosphere that enhances every bite, and the wine list perfectly complements the exquisite dishes.
"Disappointing Stay That Fell Short of Expectations"
We expected a high-end experience but unfortunately felt like we received a budget stay. Although we were told our room was an upgrade, it was quite small and offered no real view. In fact, we had to keep the blinds closed since they looked directly into other rooms, which made the space feel even more confined. The property also lacked a proper restaurant — instead, there was only a small dining area with limited options and very little appeal. Overall, it was far from the luxurious experience we had anticipated.
"A Perfect Anniversary Dinner at Le Cinq — Fine Dining at Its Best"
We celebrated our anniversary at Le Cinq in February 2024, and it remains one of the most memorable dining experiences we’ve ever had. From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable — warm, attentive, and perfectly timed without ever feeling formal or stiff. The staff even surprised us with a thoughtful anniversary gesture that made the evening feel truly personal and special. The wine pairings were exceptional, each selection enhancing the dishes beautifully without overshadowing them. Every course — from the irresistible bread trolley to the exquisite dessert presentation — was executed with precision and artistry. I only wished I had more room to savor even more of it. While dining at Le Cinq is undeniably a splurge, the experience is worth every cent. The flawless cooking, graceful service, and celebratory ambiance come together to create something beyond a meal — a lasting memory of pure culinary excellence.
"Exceptional Service, Disappointing Cuisine — Not Worth the Hype"
Let me start by saying the service at this restaurant was absolutely outstanding. The waitstaff, sommeliers, and attendants were flawless — warm, professional, and genuinely attentive. The wine selection was equally impressive, and the sommelier did an excellent job curating pairings that perfectly matched our preferences, value, and budget. However, as a New Yorker who’s experienced many Michelin-starred restaurants, the food here simply did not live up to its reputation or price tag. From the beet-based amuse-bouche to the room-temperature sea bass and the oddly textured, flan-like gnocchi, each course left us more underwhelmed than the last. The “spaghetti” — a pasta-based entrée filled with cheese and rich flavors — was easily the highlight of the meal, but beyond that, the lamb was mediocre and nothing truly impressed. We were so disappointed that we chose to skip dessert and a digestif altogether. One of the complimentary petit fours even had an unexpected tomato flavor that felt completely out of place. It was heartbreaking to feel such respect for the exceptional staff while being so dissatisfied with the cuisine. Sadly, despite the impeccable service, this restaurant falls far short of three Michelin stars or its steep price — there are far better places to dine for both value and satisfaction.
"A Symphony of Perfection — An Unforgettable Culinary Experience"
A symphony of perfection from start to finish! Every element of the meal reflected precision, passion, and innovation in perfect harmony. The interplay of textures, creativity, temperatures, and flavors transported my senses to another world. The lobster bisque paired with pistachio ice cream and the reimagined French onion soup were absolute standouts — each bite felt like a masterful culinary journey. And the service? Absolute perfection. Attentive yet discreet, the team anticipated every need with seamless grace and genuine warmth. This wasn’t just a meal; it was a complete sensory experience — one that I will remember forever. I cannot wait to return and relive the magic of this extraordinary restaurant!
"An Exceptional Dining Experience with a Wine Tasting Worth Trying"
This was truly one of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had. As is typical with fine establishments like this, the wine list came in the form of an impressive book — and to save myself the trouble of choosing, we opted for the wine tasting. I highly recommend it! Each pairing complemented the dishes beautifully, elevating the entire meal to another level. Just a word of caution: they’re generous with the pours, and if you ask for refills (or simply accept when they leave the bottle), you might find yourself with quite the hangover the next morning.
"Beautiful Setting and Impeccable Service, but the Food Missed the Mark"
What a beautiful place — absolutely stunning in every detail. The service was nearly flawless, close to 100%, though it felt a bit too mechanical at times, lacking the warmth expected from a true three-star experience. Unfortunately, the main disappointment came with the food itself. As someone who dines at Michelin-starred restaurants regularly, I found the flavors inconsistent and, at times, mismatched. The pre-snack set the wrong tone, some flavors were far too strong (especially the smoked salmon), and others simply didn’t harmonize, like the pairing of avocado and cabbage in the main dish. On a positive note, the wine list was outstanding — exactly what you’d expect from an establishment of this caliber. While the ambiance and service impressed, the overall dining experience fell short of three-star expectations. I look forward to exploring other highly rated restaurants in town for a more balanced culinary experience.
"Excellent Service and Great Appetizers, Though Mains Fell a Bit Short"
This 3-star Michelin restaurant offers truly fantastic service — attentive, polished, and everything you’d expect at this level. The food overall was good, though I personally found the appetizers, especially the salad and shrimp, more enjoyable than the main courses of lamb and spaghetti. The veal and Angus beef dishes were solid and well-prepared, and the desserts were uniformly excellent, ending the meal on a high note. While not every dish was a standout, the experience as a whole was still refined and memorable.
