"Elegant old world hotel close to some famous landmarks"
We stayed in Rome for two nights before heading to Tuscany and thoroughly enjoyed this elegant and quiet hotel, just a short walk from the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain. The rooms were very comfortable and clean, and the staff were extremely attentive and friendly. The Mirabelle restaurant offers breathtaking views of the Vatican and the skyline, but we found the cost of a light lunch rather high—almost €400 for two courses and wine. A drink on the rooftop is a better way to enjoy the view without the hefty price. Highlights included a whirlwind three-hour golf cart tour arranged by the hotel, which allowed us to see many sights with minimal walking, and the exceptional assistance from reservations agent Claudia, who helped resolve a booking issue prior to our arrival. Overall, we would recommend this hotel for a stay in Rome, especially for its comfort, service, and location.
"A Luxury Hotel!"
This hotel truly lives up to its high ranking. We stayed in a beautiful suite that exceeded our expectations, featuring a spacious bedroom, large bathroom, and comfortable sitting room. The staff was excellent—always helpful with directions, transportation arrangements, and everything else, all with a warm smile and great attitude. The location is very convenient, within walking distance of major attractions (~35 minutes to the Colosseum and ~45 minutes to the Vatican). While the bar and restaurant require reservations, there are plenty of excellent dining options within a 10-minute walk. Breakfast was outstanding, offering a wide variety including the fun option to make your own mimosas. We highly recommend this hotel!
"Quiet and well located in Rome!"
This was our second stay at the hotel, and once again we enjoyed its excellent amenities. The rooftop offers beautiful views of Rome, especially in the late afternoon. The rooms are spacious, quiet, and very comfortable, with high-quality towels, sheets, and amenities. Every night, mineral water and chocolates were thoughtfully provided. Breakfast features excellent quality products, and the hotel’s location near Villa Borghese and within walking distance of Piazza di Spagna makes it ideal for exploring Rome. The only downside is the reception staff, who were noticeably cold and impersonal, which detracted somewhat from an otherwise outstanding stay.
"Quiet location in the midst of bustling Rome"
We absolutely loved our time in Rome and our stay at the Splendide Royal. The front desk staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful throughout our visit. Our room and bathroom were spacious, beautifully appointed, and featured incredibly comfortable beds—truly a highlight of the stay! If the weather allows, don’t miss drinks on the rooftop terrace. The sunset views are absolutely spectacular, and it’s best to make a reservation in advance to secure your spot. A truly memorable experience!
"like the good old days"
An experience to remember! This beautiful hotel offers a fantastic room and bathroom, superb breakfast, and a very convenient location. The on-site restaurants are astonishing, providing truly unique views over Rome. The only drawback was the reception team, who seemed disengaged and not particularly cheerful, which contrasted with the otherwise exceptional experience.
"Good Hotel but not great"
This is a good but expensive hotel that doesn’t quite live up to top expectations. The staff are excellent, and the restaurant is very good, with both the restaurant and bar offering stunning views over the city—though the bar lacks air conditioning. Our upgraded room was just okay, with awkward steps up to both the bathroom and wardrobe, and it lacked a coffee machine. WiFi was frustratingly poor. Reception staff were confident but struggled with billing, making check-out unnecessarily difficult. This was our third visit, and likely our last.
"Rome 5 star"
Good location and a quiet stay. The breakfast staff and room attendants were very nice, but some reception staff came across as arrogant. The rooftop is lovely, though prices are extremely high. The decor felt a bit gaudy, and showers didn’t drain properly. Overall, the experience did not match the price. Additionally, the lack of a second lock on the door was concerning.
"Overpriced."
The hotel is in a great location with beautiful architecture and attentive staff. The restaurant and rooftop bar offer incredible views of the city. However, dining was disappointing—lunch and dinner felt just “so-so,” and I even sent back my pasta entrée without receiving any refund. At 300 Euros for lunch, it felt extremely overpriced. With no spa to justify the cost, it’s hard to recommend this hotel solely for its luxury.
"Good stay, nothing with wow factor"
This hotel, a converted monastery, is a gorgeous and ornate building with very friendly staff. The location is excellent—about a 7–10 minute walk to the top of the Spanish Steps and 5 minutes to the Borghese Gardens. The rooms were very large and clean, and breakfast was decent, though served in a hall-like space with minimal decor. However, it fell short of a polished 5-star experience. The concierge was never available, and the front desk repeatedly suggested the same two restaurants despite requests for more options. We were excited to use the sister hotel’s pool, but there was a per-person fee and it was too busy, so we couldn’t access it. Overall, a lovely hotel, but not quite top-of-the-line 5-star.
"Gorgeous hotel with super team"
A smashing hotel with really friendly and helpful staff. The rooftop bar is excellent for sundowners, offering breathtaking views over Rome. While the stay is on the pricier side, the attentive service makes it worthwhile. The location is convenient, with good dining options both within the hotel and nearby. Highly recommended for a memorable Roman getaway.
