"A regrettable reception"

It’s unfortunate that a poor reception experience marred what could have been a positive stay at the Zócalo Central Hotel. After a long 14-hour flight from Barcelona, my wife and I arrived on December 26 exhausted and ready to rest, only to be confronted by a receptionist demanding immediate advance payment for our nine-night stay. Although we had agreed to pay in dollars, the hotel required payment in Mexican pesos at an exchange rate set by the property. Despite our polite request to postpone payment for a few hours so we could exchange currency at a bank the following day, our request was denied. With no alternative, we had to pay by card at the hotel’s rate, which felt unfair and unnecessarily stressful. It was disappointing that an exhausted guest was not allowed a brief period to decide calmly on the most convenient payment method. This reception experience overshadowed the otherwise positive aspects of the hotel.

"Wonderful Experience"

I had a wonderful stay at the Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico, right in the heart of the city. The terrace view was stunning, and I greatly appreciated the complimentary 24/7 coffee, drinks, and snacks. What really stood out, however, was the exceptionally kind and professional service. A special thank you to Zindy, Ivan, and Karina at reception, as well as Jose Luis and Daniel from the bell team — their hospitality truly made my business trip remarkable.

"Problematic"

This NH Collection Mexico City Centro Historico is a solid 4-star hotel in a great location. Most aspects — the room, amenities, breakfast, and staff — generally meet the expectations for a property of this category. I appreciated the daily small sweet or chocolate left in the room, which was a nice touch. However, there were some notable issues. Check-in, while efficient, was problematic: the doorman offered no help with my large suitcase, and the receptionist was not particularly welcoming. My credit card was initially not registered correctly, requiring me to pay charges individually. Upon entering the room, I discovered there was no minibar or small fridge. Although the concierge eventually delivered a minibar after some back-and-forth, this is not standard for a 4-star hotel. Breakfast, while varied and with attentive waitstaff, also had its problems. On one occasion, my drink had to be sent back twice for being insufficiently hot, I was served the wrong omelette, and I had to repeatedly request salt. The dining room felt uncomfortably cold, with guests needing sweaters or jackets, and even the staff were rubbing their hands to keep warm — portable heaters would be a simple improvement. Additionally, the orange-squeezing machine was extremely loud, overpowering the background music. Overall, while the hotel offers good amenities and location, service and dining experiences fell short of the 4-star standard.

"Rocky start, but very nice place to stay, unbeatable location, and nice perks"

The Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico offers an incredible café and a very family-friendly environment, making it a safe and convenient choice for visitors with children. The hotel is also within easy walking distance of many of the city’s main attractions, which is a major plus. The staff were attentive and welcoming, providing a warm and pleasant check-in experience. However, the rooms are on the smaller side, and options with two beds are very limited — something we discovered the hard way. Overall, a great location with excellent service, though room size may be a consideration for families.

"Our best night in mexico city"

The Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico is a stunning property in a fantastic location. Victor was incredibly helpful in every way, making our stay seamless and enjoyable. The breakfast buffet was excellent, and the views from the dining area were simply amazing. Communication in English was easy and stress-free, which was a relief since our Spanish isn’t strong. Overall, a highly recommended stay with beautiful surroundings and attentive service.

"All the services are spectacular you will not regret."

Antonio and Karina at the Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico were incredibly friendly and attentive, making our stay very enjoyable. The hotel itself was spotless, and breakfast was exceptional — easily a 10/10. With such welcoming staff and a clean, comfortable environment, I would definitely return.

"Great central location and friendly ground floor service"

We received a warm welcome at the Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico, with excellent service from the ground floor staff, especially the bellboys and check-in team, as well as from concierges Fernanda and Roberto. Fernanda was particularly attentive and made a great effort to ensure we had an enjoyable stay. Our queen room felt a bit cramped, and while the air conditioning was effective, it was very noisy. Laundry service was good and reasonably priced. Breakfast offered a large selection of tasty options, which was a definite highlight. The Balcón restaurant provided amazing views of the plaza and the cathedral, though it felt unnecessarily cold at times. A few of the Balcón reception staff seemed slightly arrogant and less welcoming compared to the rest of the hotel. Overall, the hotel impressed with service and views, though some room and staff aspects could be improved.
