Gran Hotel Ciudad de México

"Grand Old Hotel Feeling."
The staff at this hotel were very helpful, and the taxi driver affiliated with the hotel was extremely accommodating. The location is close to many of Mexico City’s major sights, though it can feel a bit touristy at times. The huge square outside the hotel was lively and full of activity—mostly political during our stay—which added to the unique atmosphere of being right in the heart of the city.
"Excellent breakfast"
The service from Alejandro, Carlos, and Eduardo was exceptionally attentive, making our stay very enjoyable. The food was also of high quality, complementing the excellent service perfectly.
"Wonderful stay"
The Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico is a lovely choice for anyone seeking an upmarket, character-rich, non-franchise stay in Mexico City. The location is excellent, the service is attentive and friendly, and breakfasts are satisfying. Our room was spacious and well-maintained, and the hotel’s spectacular architecture truly enhances the overall experience. While we didn’t love the Terraza restaurant and found room service just okay, overall this is a very good option for those looking to enjoy a unique and elegant stay in the city.
"Excellent service"
Alejandro, Carlos and Eduardo attended us and the truth excellent service.
"Great hotel, well worth staying there"
I received a wonderfully warm welcome upon arrival, and the staff maintained the same friendly, professional service throughout my stay. Why only 4 stars? While the rooms were clean and comfortable, they were a bit aged—which is understandable in such a historic property. The location is excellent, offering easy walking access to many major tourist attractions. The hotel itself is stunning, preserving much of its original department store architecture, giving it a unique and elegant charm. While it’s not the cheapest option, it’s worth it for a grand old dame right in the heart of the city. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to other travelers.
"Wonderful experience !!!"
We knew we wanted a historical "Old Mexico" experience, and the Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico did not disappoint! From check-in to check-out, everything was exceptional. The doormen—especially Abraham in his iconic red uniform—were more than helpful with luggage; their friendly smiles made each arrival special. The front desk staff, Adrian and Cynthia, were incredibly accommodating day or night, assisting with currency exchange, answering questions, and arranging airport transportation. The hotel itself is breathtaking. The photos barely capture the beauty of the stained glass ceiling, and the first ride in the old elevator is a memorable experience. We stayed in Suite 204, which overlooked the square, allowing us to enjoy the vibrant activities outside. The room was perfectly comfortable, with excellent air conditioning and a cozy electric fireplace. Noise was never an issue, and we even opened the doors sometimes to take in the lively atmosphere. The hotel is located on the same square as the Presidential Palace, so one evening we watched the soldiers performing the ceremonial lowering of the massive flag—an unforgettable display of pageantry. Breakfast each morning was a delight at the covered open-air buffet, with attentive service, especially from Maria. A unique highlight was watching the falcons being trained—used to deter other birds from creating a mess in the square. Everything we wanted to see or do in Mexico City was easily accessible on foot or by taxi/Uber. The vendors around the square were fun to explore, and the nearby Hop-On Hop-Off red bus made evening city tours simple and enjoyable. We truly loved our stay and wish we had booked longer. On our next trip to Mexico City, we will definitely stay at the Gran Hotel again!
"Good central location, beautiful historical building."
This hotel has a fantastic central location in the heart of the Centro area. The staff were helpful and friendly, and the building itself is beautiful and full of historical charm. The rooms are a bit dated, which is understandable given the age of the property. Our room overlooked the street, which was lively with buskers and daytime and nighttime activity—something to keep in mind if you prefer complete quiet. Overall, a solid choice for those wanting to stay in Centro and experience the vibrant atmosphere of the city.
"Excellent service"
The food at this hotel is very good, and the service is outstanding. Special recognition goes to Carlos, Eduardo, and Alejandro, whose attentive and friendly service truly enhanced our experience.
