"Convenient Location"

We stayed here for one night, and the highlight was definitely the location—just a short uphill walk from both the train station and the Machu Picchu bus stop. As for the hotel itself, our room was quite small, especially compared to other hotels we stayed at in Peru. As others have mentioned, the area can be noisy, so be prepared for that if you’re a light sleeper.

"Good"

The hotel is very well located and comfortable. The food was also very good, and we appreciated that they allow dogs and treated them very well. The only downside was that the water hardly came out hot, which was a bit frustrating.

"Wonderful Experience in Care !!!"

One of the best experiences of Machu Picchu, guided by Carlos Felipa and Carlos Chea! 🙌 Recommended 100000%! This is truly one of the best memories I’ll take from Peru 🇵🇪. Thank you so much for all the empathy, attention, and the best service ever!

"Terrible customer service"

Do not buy from the hotel store! They assured me I would get VAT refunded at the airport (even took my passport to register it on the receipt). However, they are not registered with customs for this, making their claim completely false and misleading. As a result, I didn’t receive any of the money I was due. I phoned to complain, but they didn’t bother to investigate and instead told me I needed to spend 1000 PEN for VAT refund eligibility — which is completely untrue as the government website states the threshold is 100 PEN. I even sent an email to follow up and never received a response. Extremely disappointing.

"Family trip"

The hotel is adequate and very close to the train station and buses to Machu Picchu, making it a convenient choice for travelers. However, it’s located in a very loud area of town, so I recommend bringing earplugs if you’re a light sleeper. The beds are comfortable, and the food is decent, though nothing exceptional. Service at the restaurant was inconsistent — one night it was great, but the next it was slow and unfriendly. Overall, it’s a practical option for a short stay near Machu Picchu, but don’t expect much more.

"Hotel fine, room a bit less"

Aguas Calientes, being the gateway to Machu Picchu, is understandably very touristy and best reached by train. El MaPi Hotel is a lovely choice in the area with a stylish and well-maintained atmosphere. The service is exceptionally friendly, and the breakfast was generous and satisfying. The rooms are comfortable, but the bathrooms were a bit underwhelming — they felt dated and showed some wear and tear. Despite that, the hotel’s location is perfect for an early departure to Machu Picchu. Overall, it’s a great place to stay for a night or two before visiting the ancient citadel.

"Total disaster"

This hotel leaves much to be desired. Our experience started poorly at check-in: although the website states check-in begins at 1 PM, we arrived at 1:30 PM and were still made to wait in the lobby until 2 PM to receive our room key. Once in the room, things didn’t improve. The floor had strands of hair from previous guests, and there was a persistent humidity issue. Day and night, the room was filled with street noise and even music from the hotel itself, making it hard to relax. Dinner was included in our booking and was decent, but be aware that drinks are charged separately at inflated prices. A bottle of water costs 12 soles (€3) and soft drinks 14 soles (€3.50), which is significantly higher than Peru’s average prices (5-6 soles for water). While these prices might seem normal in Europe, they felt excessive locally. Overall, the experience was disappointing, and we wouldn’t recommend staying here.

"Excellent stay in Aguas Calientes"

This hotel beautifully blends modern comforts with the charm of the village. Its location, decor, and attention to detail are outstanding! The room was comfortable, well-equipped, and had everything we needed. The staff was incredibly attentive, even offering to take us to the station for our bus to Machu Picchu, which made our trip seamless. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting the area!

"Try to avoid"

First impressions of the hotel were really good — our suite was large, modern, and seemed promising. However, there were several letdowns. The staff struggled to understand requests in English, and loud music from the street outside played until 2:30 AM, making it hard to sleep. For a suite, we expected better quality linens, but the sheets felt rough despite paying extra. To top it off, I fell ill for 24 hours after breakfast, which left a sour note on our stay.

"The Walter Roger was very kind and simpatico"

We had an amazing stay! The service was fast and efficient, and the hotel’s location is perfect—close to the station and bus to Machu Picchu. Really recomendado! Dinner was delicious, and we received special attention from Roger, which made the experience even better.
