"A Refreshing Twist on Sunday Lunch"
The Sunday lunch here was fantastic—a perfect, weather-appropriate alternative to the usual beige gravy-soaked platter. The smoked meats truly stole the show, but the sides were just as memorable. I highly recommend trying the coal-roasted leeks and the Acme marmite bread with pecorino—absolute must-haves!
"Intriguing Concept, But Missed the Mark"
This place popped up on my Instagram, thought I’d give it a try with some buddies of mine. Upon first impressions the menu seemed like an eclectic mishmash of cuisines. We ordered a selection of dishes to try, according to our friendly waiters suggestion. We had the marmite toast, which was buttery and umami laden. However the subsequent dishes were somewhat lacklustre. They lacked a depth of flavour or smokiness that would usually be associated with open fire cooking. Particularly, the duck had one dimensional flavour profile with a haphazard smattering of pesto-esque sauce. Overall, it was a decent experience, but given the price, portion size and location this is a one off try for me.
"A Hidden BBQ Gem in the Heart of Dalston"
Tucked away in an industrial corner of Dalston, Acme Fire Cult feels like a secret BBQ spot waiting to be discovered. This unique culinary haven delights with a bold and inventive menu featuring everything from fresh fish and smoky meats to standout plant-based creations. The open-flame grilling and alfresco setup make it a perfect destination for summer get-togethers. With top-quality ingredients and dishes that showcase creativity and depth, Acme Fire Cult is a must-visit for any serious food lover.
"A Smoky, Flavor-Packed Experience Worth the Visit"
A brilliant dining experience from start to finish! Acme Fire Cult offers a cool, laid-back atmosphere paired with dishes that burst with inventive flavor combinations and modern flair. The sourdough with marmite butter was truly unforgettable—an absolute must-try. While a few of the larger plates felt a bit overpriced, the overall quality and creativity made up for it. The friendly, attentive staff added to the experience. Just a heads-up: with the live-fire cooking, you might leave with a bit of that smoky scent as a souvenir. Highly recommended!
"Underwhelming Flavors Despite Good Service"
I don’t quite understand the hype. We started with the bread, which was practically drenched in oil and buried under cheese. Among the small plates, the leek stood out—though it was tiny—and I enjoyed the pistachio cream. The cauliflower was unremarkable, and the pumpkin hummus tasted like ordinary hummus with nothing to distinguish it. For the larger dishes, the steak was very basic—just a slab with chimichurri—and felt inferior to more affordable options elsewhere. The crab and bone marrow toast was the only genuinely interesting bite. In all fairness, the service was excellent and our waiter was attentive (if a bit pushy about ordering more), but the food itself lacked cohesion and real flavor.
"Cool Vibes and Creative Plates in an Outdoor Setting"
An ace spot for a good meal—I had a lovely time enjoying a couple of glasses of wine and a few small plates while seated on the terrace. The place has a great atmosphere on a sunny evening and seems like it would hold up well in chillier weather too. Watching the outdoor cooking adds a fun element, even if the grunge-heavy soundtrack felt a bit on the nose. Most of the dishes were excellent—the tomatoes with green goddess dressing were a highlight, fresh herbs really brought it alive. The merguez was stunning, and the prawns were full of flavor. I wasn’t sold on the sourdough with marmite; the bitterness bordered on burnt and the cheesy topping had to work overtime to balance it—but hey, marmite is divisive. Service was laid-back but friendly. While it doesn’t quite hit the same high notes as the Climpson’s version of Brat in terms of bold, gutsy cooking, I appreciated the attention to vegetables and the generally more restrained approach. I’d happily return to try some of the larger dishes.
Acme Fire Cult
Fire-based cooking with a strong focus on vegetables. Not fully vegan, but their meat-free dishes are a highlight.
