"Great relaxed place and good food"
This cozy restaurant offers good traditional Italian food in a relaxed setting. Recommended as a lunch spot after visiting the Colosseum, it was much better than the tourist traps on the main street. We waited about 15 minutes for a table, as the space is small, but once seated, the staff explained the menu options clearly. All of us enjoyed our meals, which were also very good value for money.
"Great Pasta !"
Tucked away in a hidden alley, this restaurant offers a simple order-and-sit-down setup. A charming elder guided us through the process and genuinely seemed interested in our thoughts on the food. The pasta was excellent, and we enjoyed sharing a small bottle of Chianti.
"yummy! And GF options too"
This spot is great for gluten-free dining, offering delicious pasta options. Although there is only one gluten-free pasta choice and it isn’t fresh, for a celiac like me, just having pasta with a gorgeous sauce is enough. The setting is super relaxed—more suited for a quick meal or takeout rather than a sit-down, romantic experience.
"Delicious lunch, nice experience"
We enjoyed a lovely lunch in late December at al42 by Pasta Chef in Rione Monti (Via Baccina 42). The restaurant is small with only counter seating, so you line up, wait your turn, and are assigned a spot. Orders are placed at the cashier, and you wait for your number to be called. I had the ravioli filled with ricotta and seasonal vegetables, along with a fresh green salad, both of which were delightful, paired with a half bottle of wine. Due to licensing, there is no restroom, and wine is only served by the bottle or half bottle. The host managed everything efficiently and was very pleasant. The place seemed to attract a young crowd, though it was still a fantastic experience regardless of age.
"Rome at the table with the welcome of home."
It is always a pleasure to return to this small restaurant, where guests are welcomed with great attention and a genuine passion for Roman cuisine. The tonnarelli alla carbonara and the Pra! pesto are especially noteworthy—truly exceptional dishes.
"Laboratory (no restaurant)… carbonara 👍🏼 other dishes 👎🏼"
This place feels more like a culinary laboratory than a traditional restaurant, offering take-away food with the option to eat at tables with stools. There is no restroom, so plan accordingly. The carbonara was very good, and prices were fair, though I’m unsure if I would return.
"Best Pasta We Had on Our Two Week Italian Trip"
Some of the best pasta I’ve ever had in my life—without question the highlight of our two-week Italian adventure. The owner kindly welcomed us right before closing and was very gracious. Highly recommend trying the Carbonara!
"Very good. Not amazing."
This pretty little restaurant is tucked away from the main tourist streets. We were first in line and managed to get one of the few tables. As our first meal in Italy after just landing, it was very good, though not the best we had during our two-week trip. We enjoyed a Caesar salad, vegetarian ravioli, and fettuccini bolognese. The salad was slightly overdressed, but everything else was enjoyable. A cute spot for lunch if you’re in the area and arrive early, though I wouldn’t recommend waiting in a long line.
"Amazing food"
We had an amazing dining experience at Al42—our favorite meal while in Rome. The owner was very friendly, greeting us and clearly explaining the ordering process and seating. The pasta was delicious, and the dessert was equally impressive. A 100% recommendation!
