"Flight Review: Rome to Bangkok"

Pleasant Journey from Rome to Bangkok on the New Neo Aircraft Flying from Rome to Bangkok aboard the new Neo aircraft was truly a delightful experience. The plane itself was modern and well-equipped, and the senior crew members added a personal touch with their warm smiles and friendly attitude, creating a welcoming atmosphere throughout the flight. Highlights: The meals were excellent, especially the breakfast, which included a warm croissant, a fresh sandwich with ham, cheese, and tomato, and a generous assortment of sweet yet healthy snacks. Both takeoff and landing were incredibly smooth and graceful. The in-flight entertainment featured a solid mix of Italian and international films. The safety video was creative and humorous—definitely a standout feature. Room for Improvement: The seat comfort could be better. Breakfast service felt rushed, as it was served just 40 minutes before landing, with croissants practically flying through the cabin. Serving breakfast a bit earlier would allow for a more relaxed and enjoyable meal. Grazie for the experience!

"ok types very small planes"

Mixed Experience with ITA Airways on India–Venice Route We recently flew ITA Airways from India to Venice and back. While the outbound journey started off smoothly, things took a turn when the pilot announced a delay due to an extra passenger on board—something I’ve never experienced before. This caused a one-hour delay, resulting in us missing our connecting flight. The next available connection was three hours later. On the positive side, the international terminal was a shopping haven, with a wide range of luxury brands. If you're a non-European traveler flying back home, you can even get tax refunds directly from the stores, which is a nice bonus. Do note that ITA Airways doesn’t operate daily flights to India, and to secure a good fare, booking well in advance is essential. As for the flight itself, the aircraft was small, including the business class cabin. The seats, though compact, were lie-flat and allowed for decent rest. However, the food was average at best, and vegetarian options were very limited. The cabin crew was just okay—not particularly warm or friendly. Though they provided a coupon for complimentary Wi-Fi, I couldn’t get it to connect. Also, the entertainment system needed prompting; it wasn’t active until I asked the crew to switch it on.

"Terrible"

I was charged $150 per flight for checked luggage beyond carry-on, which is already excessive. I tried to cancel the extra luggage before the flight, but ITA Airways refused to refund me. Their policy seems intentionally rigid and unhelpful, especially when no service was rendered. It’s frustrating to deal with such inflexible and profit-driven practices — I paid for something I didn’t use and got no consideration in return. Very disappointing customer service.

"Do not upgrade to business class on ITA airways"

ITA Airways is by far the worst airline I’ve ever dealt with. I originally purchased two economy tickets, and a week before departure, ITA emailed me offering an upgrade to business class, which I accepted and paid for. However, when we arrived at the airport, we were told there were no business class seats available for us. I received no prior notification or email — they claimed they “called,” but I never got any calls or messages. I had no choice but to request a full refund for the upgrade and revert to economy class. During the trip, I got an email stating a refund was being processed, but they only returned half of what I paid. After returning home, I went to the ITA customer service desk at JFK, and they promised to email me with an update — but over a month has passed and I’ve heard nothing. I’ve called and emailed multiple times with no response, and even tried to submit a claim online, which didn’t work. The lack of communication, transparency, and customer support is appalling. Do not upgrade with ITA Airways — you’ll regret it.

"Alitalia was a good experience"

Pleasant Experience with Alitalia (ITA Airways) After reading so many negative reviews of Alitalia (now ITA Airways), I was pleasantly surprised by our experience. My wife and I recently flew round-trip from JFK to Milan, and everything went smoothly. The food was decent—certainly better than peanuts and crackers on short U.S. flights. It’s airplane food, not a five-star Italian restaurant, and it did the job. I'm 6'4" and found the legroom on par with other airlines in Economy. The seats actually reclined more than usual, so taller passengers might want to consider bulkhead or emergency row seats. We checked our luggage and had no issues. I’ve had bags lost with other airlines, so Alitalia isn’t any worse in that regard. Staff were friendly, and both flights were on time—something I can’t always say for Delta. For the price we paid and the convenience of a nonstop flight, I’d definitely recommend Alitalia.

"good flight for good prices"

Reliable and Decent European Airline I've flown with Alitalia several times on short-haul routes within Europe and have consistently found it to be a good airline. The flight crew is friendly and professional, and the ticket prices are quite reasonable. While there’s nothing particularly extraordinary to highlight, it’s a solid, dependable choice for regional travel.

"I LOVE THIS AIRLINE!"

A huge thank you to the entire team for going above and beyond to help me recover my lost wallet. It was no small favor, and your Facebook team truly came through! I’m incredibly grateful for your kindness and thoughtfulness—it meant the world to me.

"ITA AIRWAYS…THE WORST EXPERIENCE IN MY DECADES FLYING!"

We were ticketed on ITA Airways (formerly Alitalia) from Rome to New York (JFK), connecting on Delta to Tampa, Florida. Check-in at Rome was frustrating — we waited while an ITA employee casually chatted with the agent, who then called for a security check and tagged our passports before checking our bags through to Tampa and issuing both boarding passes. Security was smooth thanks to our TSA Pre-Check, and we boarded the flight where I found my seat had a broken footrest and damaged armrest. Lunch was served promptly after takeoff, but there was no pre-beverage service, and the flight attendants were largely absent until a snack was offered near landing. They made the usual landing announcements but failed to enforce seatback positions; the passengers in front of my wife and across the aisle remained fully reclined until just before touchdown, with no crew monitoring the cabin. We used the Mobile Passport Control app to speed through customs in New York, but due to poor signage and ongoing construction, getting from Terminal 1 to Terminal 4 was confusing. At TSA, we were forced to wait in a long line because the ITA agent failed to mark our Delta passes for TSA Pre-Check, nearly causing us to miss our connection. At ages 81 and 78, the entire ordeal was exhausting. Ironically, Delta’s crew was more attentive on the short 2-hour flight than ITA’s was over 9 hours. The ITA staff we encountered seemed disinterested and unprofessional. This was our first — and last — experience flying ITA Airways. With empty seats on our flight and service this poor, I imagine that number will only grow unless they make serious improvements.

Alitalia

Alitalia - Società Aerea Italiana S.p.A., commonly known as Alitalia, was the former flag carrier and largest airline of Italy. Headquartered in Fiumicino, within the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, the airline was state-owned from its founding in 1946 until its privatization in 2009. Despite the transition to private ownership, Alitalia faced ongoing financial difficulties and was unable to secure successful deals with potential buyers. After years of losses, the airline was placed under extraordinary administration in 2017. In March 2020, the Italian government re-acquired ownership of Alitalia.
