"High employee"

I stayed on a Friday and Saturday night in July and observed some concerning behavior from the night shift staff. Based on my 10+ years working in medicine, it appeared that some of the male employees might have been under the influence of cocaine. While I don’t make this suggestion lightly, I feel it’s serious enough to mention. I strongly recommend that management consider implementing random drug testing—especially for the night crew—to ensure the safety and professionalism of the hotel environment.

"Ridiculously overpriced and under-served"

We consider ourselves true “AmanJunkies” (and even have the hats to prove it), with several Aman properties ranked among the best hotels we’ve ever experienced worldwide. Unfortunately, Aman New York does not measure up—not even compared to other top hotels in the city. To be fair, the rooms are stunning: spacious, beautifully styled, and elegantly furnished. But beyond that, the experience fell short. Service was inconsistent—while staff were friendly, many lacked experience and seemed unprepared for even basic hospitality situations. The restaurants and bars were average by New York standards, though priced far higher, and the common areas felt more like a public venue than a sanctuary, crowded with non-hotel guests—hardly the serene Aman atmosphere we’ve come to love. Communication was also a major disappointment. During our stay, 57th Street was completely closed for a planned public event, blocking the main entrance for hours. Despite the city announcing this weeks in advance, the hotel gave no notice to guests and was unprepared to assist with alternative transport. Similarly, when a fire drill took place, no prior communication was provided—something even mid-tier hotels typically handle with ease. We will continue to cherish Aman properties around the world, but sadly, we won’t be returning to this one. It’s a missed opportunity, as New York should be the perfect stage for Aman hospitality to shine.

"Beautiful property with service issues"

I have been a guest at Aman New York twice in the past two months, and the hotel itself is stunning—both understated and sophisticated at the same time. The décor and atmosphere are soothing, with careful attention to detail, as one would expect from a property of this caliber. That said, after two stays, I do have several observations that could elevate the guest experience further. We booked through Amex Platinum Fine Hotels + Resorts, which guarantees benefits such as a 4pm late checkout. During our first stay, these perks were neither reviewed nor honored—we were even called at noon on checkout day to ask about luggage. To the hotel’s credit, during our second visit, the team reviewed the Amex perks at check-in and honored them properly. Dining was a highlight, particularly the omakase at Nama, which was fabulous—though a sake pairing option would have been a welcome addition. Arva’s brunch and lunch offerings felt less balanced, leaning heavily toward breakfast or dinner-style dishes while missing lighter midday options like wraps, salads, or sandwiches. It would also be helpful if the in-room iPads displayed the menus for Nama and Arva and allowed for reservations. The spa was excellent, and my treatment was memorable. However, the lack of a dedicated pre-treatment relaxation area was a downside; waiting in the hallway, sauna, or pool area felt less than ideal. Where Aman fell short on both stays was in small but meaningful service details. Room deliveries were consistently delayed or forgotten. On our first stay, I twice requested milk for coffee but never received it. Ice delivery was a recurring issue—sometimes requiring multiple calls over an hour and a half. While one staff member eventually resolved it quickly, the inconsistency suggests a communication breakdown. We also faced issues with our rooms. On the second stay, the suite we were given was not the one we booked; instead of the 56th Street Premier Suite with floor-to-ceiling windows, we were in a smaller Sanctuary Suite. Additionally, the thermostat had been locked to 60 degrees from a prior guest’s request, requiring maintenance to fix the problem the next morning. Finally, the post-stay follow-up was frustrating. It took five days to receive our folio, and we were incorrectly charged for an open bottle of whiskey that had already been opened upon arrival—something we had reported both to minibar staff and the front desk. None of these concerns should deter anyone from experiencing Aman New York. It is an exceptional property with a remarkable ambiance, and most of our experiences were positive. However, greater consistency, attention to detail, and communication would bring it in line with the extraordinary standard expected of Aman.

"Not up to par"

I had very high expectations for Aman New York, given both the brand and the buzz around this property. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short. The décor throughout is sleek, dark, and sexy—very on brand—but the execution was inconsistent. We arrived after a red-eye to an empty lobby, where no one seemed to know what to do until a bellman eventually escorted us upstairs. Not the start one expects from a so-called luxury property. The room design was minimalist but uninspired, and the faux pines were downright tacky. At this price point, a few sprigs of fresh greenery would have been far more appropriate. Service was uneven. One receptionist was warm and professional, while another was curt and clueless. The spa and pool area were unattended, and I had to track someone down just to get a robe. Bar staff were kind, but at 9 p.m. they were busy moving furniture around us as if shutting down early. Room service was a similar mix—one sweet young lady contrasted by a man whose demeanor bordered on antagonistic. And then there was the food: a $67 açaí bowl with withered berries (yes, that includes a $12 delivery charge, on which I still tipped 20%). The most unforgivable issue came on our second night, when the air conditioning began making a loud metal clanging noise. It only stopped after I turned it off—leaving the room at 82 degrees by morning. In the end, this hotel feels more like a glorified W than an Aman. For the price point and the prestige of the brand, the service, quality, and experience should be on another level. Sadly, it was not.

"Great but"

The rooms and service at Aman New York were truly exquisite. The beautifully designed and spacious suites were among the most comfortable I have experienced in the city, and the staff—from the entrance to the concierge—delivered exceptional service. The spa, particularly the half-day Hammam experience, was next level, staffed by some of the kindest and most attentive professionals we’ve ever encountered. The gym and pool facilities were also outstanding, adding to the sense of luxury and retreat. That said, something about this Aman feels different. While the property excels in accommodations and wellness, the restaurants left much to be desired. Orders were missed, menu changes created frustration, and overall the dishes were just average—falling far below the impeccable standard expected of Aman. Dining is such an important part of the brand experience, and here it simply didn’t measure up.

"Hotel 5* jazz club1*"

For the hotel itself, this is truly a five-star+ experience. We stayed for two nights and, as expected from an Aman property, it did not disappoint. The rooms are beautiful and exceptionally spacious, with bathrooms larger than most hotel rooms in New York. Service and hospitality throughout the hotel were beyond excellent, and the restaurants offered a very good menu with great options. Unfortunately, our experience at the speakeasy jazz club was very disappointing. Something unusual and unpleasant happened during our visit, and although I brought it to the manager’s attention, no action was taken. This was surprising and not what one would expect from Aman, where service is usually impeccable. Overall, the hotel itself is outstanding, but the experience at the jazz club fell far short of Aman’s usual standards.

"Lots of kinks to iron out"

I recently spent three nights at Aman New York as a full-paying guest—the most expensive city hotel I have ever stayed in—and I left feeling disappointed rather than impressed. At nearly $4,000 per night, I was ready to be blown away, but instead found myself relieved when I moved to another property down the street. The positives: the location is unbeatable with Bergdorf Goodman and Central Park right outside. The interiors are beautifully designed, though quite dark in common areas, and the rooms are exceptional—spacious, beautifully furnished, and equipped with every gadget imaginable. I was upgraded on arrival, and I doubt there are any “bad” rooms here. The spa is expansive and well-appointed, and my treatment was excellent. But beyond that, the experience was underwhelming. Food was limited and uninspired—room service menus were basic and overpriced, and the restaurants felt more corporate and pretentious than Aman’s usual serene “zen.” The service leaned heavily on gatekeeping, with multiple staff checkpoints just to access the rooms. Instead of the seamless, personalized hospitality I’ve experienced at other Aman properties, I found the atmosphere exhausting and far from welcoming. The spa, while impressive in scale, was poorly managed with unclear communication, limited availability, and even an attempted erroneous cancellation charge. Ultimately, Aman New York seems more focused on cultivating an exclusive members’ club vibe than on delivering genuine, personalized service. For me, it missed the essence of what makes Aman special. I left with a lighter wallet and a sense of disappointment—something I’ve never felt leaving an Aman before.

"Quiet Luxury and even Quieter Serenity"

Housed in the iconic Crown Building at Fifth Avenue and 57th Street, the Aman New York promises a serene escape inspired by Sanskrit traditions of mind, body, and spirit—a lofty promise for any city hotel. My expansive suite featured soaring 11-foot ceilings, a cozy fireplace, large windows framing striking city views, and a dramatic art mural. The design blended natural materials and muted tones, creating a calming retreat. The bathroom was equally impressive, complete with a marble rain shower, double vanity, and a grand oval soaking tub spacious enough to feel like a Mediterranean escape. The property offers abundant communal spaces for dining, drinks, and relaxation. I enjoyed a hearty pork chop at Arva, the Italian restaurant, complemented by Nama, Aman’s refined take on Japanese cuisine. The Jazz Club brought world-class performances, while the Garden Terrace, with its firepits, reflective pools, and retractable glass roof, provided a year-round oasis. The spa and wellness facilities are nothing short of remarkable—25,000 square feet featuring a 65-foot pool, yoga and Pilates studios, firepits, ten treatment rooms, and two dedicated spa houses. Although I skipped the cryotherapy chamber (lacking the proper snow gear), I indulged in the signature New York treatment: a full-body scrub, steam shower, and massage that left me completely renewed. That said, while the hotel embodies pinnacle amenities, service occasionally lacked the seamless polish one expects at this level. And with rates that could make the average guest’s heart skip a beat, the value proposition is debatable. If you carry a heavy wallet and crave a hotel that embodies quiet luxury and serenity amidst the bustle of New York City, the Aman is worth experiencing at least once.

"It’s a hotel."

Aman has built a reputation for creating properties that are destinations in themselves. Aman New York, however, feels more like a hotel—an excellent hotel, but also the most expensive in the city. The rooms are spacious and beautifully appointed, with the benefit of everything being brand new. Service is consistently friendly and attentive, and breakfast is good, though not exceptional. The standout feature is the open terrace, where you can enjoy a morning coffee or an evening drink before heading out—it truly elevates the experience in New York. That said, is it markedly different from staying at other top-tier hotels such as The Peninsula or Park Hyatt? Probably not. Is it worth the significant price premium? Again, probably not. But is it a very good hotel worth experiencing at least once? Absolutely.

"Aman expérience !"

From the moment I arrived, the Aman New York delivered a true Aman experience—staff attentive, discreet, and genuinely dedicated to anticipating every need, making me feel like a VIP throughout my stay. Despite being in the heart of a bustling city, the hotel envelops you in serenity, like a private cocoon you never want to leave. The interiors, masterfully designed by Jean-Michel Gathy, are a triumph of elegance, where textures and colors harmonize beautifully, complemented by the property’s signature divine scent. Our room was spacious, impeccably laid out, and exuded a calm sophistication that made it a true sanctuary. Both restaurants offered excellent dining, though the Japanese venue stood out for me—an intimate, cozy space radiating tranquility that feels almost impossible to find in New York City.
