"Long flight"

The flight was quite crowded, and unfortunately, the flight attendants seemed agitated and unfriendly. While the food was decent and there were plenty of opportunities to get drinks, the overall atmosphere was affected by the staff’s attitude. The flight attendants worked hard, but there’s no reason for hostility toward passengers. It’s something that could definitely be improved.

"A smooth operation….."

The dedicated business class check-in was smooth and hassle-free, as was fast-track security. The lounge offered a warm welcome and comfortable seating, especially in the quieter area toward the back. However, the breakfast selection was underwhelming and looked a bit tired. Boarding went smoothly, and the flight attendant, Corina, was exceptionally welcoming, professional, and friendly. The onboard breakfast—especially the omelette—was delicious, and the service far exceeded that of the lounge. Overall, it was an enjoyable and pleasant flight. "Flight delayed but OK othewise; Horrible Cusomter Service."

My flight was delayed, and under EU regulations, I am entitled to compensation. However, Austrian Airlines has made the process unnecessarily difficult. Despite confirming that I was on the affected flight, they keep requesting more documents and information—an obvious tactic to wear customers down until they give up. A word of warning: avoid using Expedia’s “preferred” assistance partner, AirHelp. They are extremely difficult to deal with and take a third of your compensation for handling something you can usually do yourself—unless, of course, you're dealing with Austrian Airlines, which seems to make even the DIY route exhausting. It’s frustrating to see this kind of runaround from an airline that otherwise offers a good in-flight experience. But this compensation process left a very bitter taste.

"Nightmare experience"

I'm really sorry to hear about your negative experience. It’s unacceptable to face rude, lazy, or racist behavior from airline staff, especially when you're just trying to travel peacefully. And when you're left dealing with canceled connecting flights and not receiving proper support, it makes everything worse. If you haven't already, it might be helpful to file a formal complaint with the airline’s customer service team, clearly outlining the issues, including the staff behavior, flight cancellations, and how it impacted your trip. If you're not satisfied with their response, you could also consider escalating it to a regulatory body or seeking legal advice, depending on your location. It’s disappointing when a company treats its customers poorly, but sharing your experience can sometimes make a difference, especially if it’s in a public forum like social media or review sites. I hope your next flight experience is much better and that you’re treated with the respect you deserve.

"Attractive rates, many convenient routes, good fleet, nice crew & good connectivity via Schwechat (VIE)"

As someone who takes hundreds of flights per year, I’ve had the opportunity to travel with most major European airlines. Over time, it’s inevitable to develop strong preferences—some airlines you grow fond of, while others earn a permanent spot on your personal boycott list. For me, KLM tops that list, closely followed by Lufthansa. Despite being the flagship airline of Germany and the head of the Lufthansa Group—which also includes SWISS, Brussels Airlines, and Austrian Airlines—Lufthansa continues to disappoint. Ironically, while I actively avoid Lufthansa at all costs, I’ve grown increasingly fond of Austrian Airlines over the past couple of years, and I now consider it one of my favorite carriers. Austrian Airlines is a rare gem among national flag carriers. In an era where many have disappeared or been diluted into soulless corporate entities, Austrian Airlines has retained its identity and charm. One of the best aspects of the airline is its brilliant “SERVUS” branding. It captures the spirit of Austria—warm, welcoming, and authentically charming—and this personality shines through across all classes, even in economy. I also appreciate Austrian Airlines’ fleet. From the reliable Embraer 195s to their new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, their aircraft are generally comfortable and well-maintained. That said, I could do without the aging 777-200ERs, which I hope will soon be phased out. While I personally think Airbus aircraft—especially the A350-900—would’ve been a better choice than the 787-9, the new additions are still a step forward. Perhaps Lufthansa had a say in the selection—who knows? The design elements, both inside and out, deserve praise. The livery, cabin interiors, and even the uniforms of the crew (especially the elegant style of the female flight attendants) reflect Austrian sophistication. It’s stylish, understated, and unmistakably national—yet modern. The onboard experience is similarly strong. Meals and drinks reflect Austrian culinary traditions, and there’s thoughtful attention to detail in branding and service delivery. Vienna International Airport (Schwechat) is another major advantage. Its central location in Europe makes it a strategic and convenient hub. Destinations like Bratislava, Prague, Budapest, Kraków, Belgrade, and even various Romanian cities are all easily accessible by road or rail. Sometimes it’s quicker and more cost-effective to fly into Vienna and take a Flixbus from there. The airport itself is efficient, clean, and generally pleasant—especially when compared to overcrowded hubs like Frankfurt or Munich. Transfers are usually quick and smooth, with friendly Austrian staff adding to the positive experience. The long-haul connectivity is also impressive. Austrian Airlines has curated a solid list of 30 long-haul destinations with well-timed feeder flights across Europe. Combined with competitive pricing, short layovers, excellent service (including full meals and generous legroom in economy), and the unique SERVUS flair, Austrian Airlines offers a premium experience that stands out. All things considered, Austrian Airlines is currently my favorite premium European airline—and my third favorite overall. With their dedication to service, branding, and quality, I sincerely hope they one day break free from the shadow of Lufthansa. Austria stands proudly on its own, and so should Austrian Airlines.

"Holiday trip"

The flight was very comfortable, and the flight attendants were exceptionally polite and professional throughout the journey. I really appreciated the thoughtful touches—like being served water and candy on the house. Small gestures like that make a big difference!

"Good service, just in time, value for money"

Everything went perfectly—on time, smooth booking, hassle-free travel, and no issues with luggage. Easily the best flight experience I’ve had recently in Europe. Highly recommended!

"Two very different flights"

I flew with Austrian Airlines from TIA to WAW via VIE on October 30th. The first leg from TIA to VIE was excellent—the crew was friendly, smiling, and helpful, creating an amazing atmosphere. It gave me a very positive impression of the airline. Unfortunately, the second leg from VIE to WAW was a different story. The stewardess on that flight was rude, impolite, and even shouted at passengers, giving the clear impression that she disliked her job. It was a disappointing contrast. This experience showed me that service with Austrian Airlines can vary significantly from one flight to another, with inconsistent customer service standards.

"Top marks Austrian airlines"

When we booked our premium economy tickets, we knew that the flight from London Heathrow (LHR) to Vienna would be in economy, and we were flying premium economy on the Vienna to Bangkok (BKK) leg. I only read the negative reviews after booking, and I spent several weeks worrying about what we'd experience. However, our experience with this airline turned out to be completely the opposite of what I had read online. From check-in at London to collecting our bags in Bangkok, we were thoroughly impressed with the level of service. We left London slightly late, which made us nervous about our 40-minute connection in Vienna, but there was no need to worry. The pilot made up some time in the air, and we landed with enough time to head straight to the next gate. The cabin crew provided clear directions, and we made our connection without any issues. The welcome from the crew was fantastic, and the service throughout the flight was impeccable—nothing seemed like too much trouble. Our seats were very comfortable, and the food we were served was delicious. Drinks were regularly offered, and I’m sure we could have asked for more if we wished. When we landed in Bangkok, we were, of course, concerned about our bags, especially after reading all the horror stories about lost luggage. Fortunately, they were among the first off the plane. I highly recommend Austrian Airlines and regret reading those negative reviews beforehand. Thank you to the hardworking crew—you did a magnificent job and made our experience a very happy one!

"Family trip"

The service and food were excellent, especially since I had ordered a lactose-free meal, which was catered to perfectly. The only reason I didn’t give a full 5 stars was because the coffee could definitely be better. Otherwise, everything was fantastic!

"Great flight experience from Check-in until landing – Ibk-bkk"

The check-in process was smooth and efficient, even with the Covid rules in place at Innsbruck. Unfortunately, the long stop-over in Vienna was marred by a poorly organized and underwhelming Business lounge, which was a huge disappointment, especially for Austrian Airlines and the Lufthansa Group. However, the on-board service more than made up for it! The crew was fantastic, the seating in Business class was very comfortable, and the food was exceptional. The luggage policies were perfect for an expat with heavier bags. Despite the lounge issue, the excellent in-flight experience and crew left a positive lasting impression. We will definitely book with Austrian Airlines again for this route.
