Baccarat Hotel New York

"Beyond lovely"
We’ve stayed at many of New York City’s finest hotels, and the Baccarat truly stands above the rest. My wife and I spent six glorious nights here, and everything exceeded our expectations. The location was perfect—equidistant to our uptown and downtown plans, with nearby subway options that made getting around faster than by car. We even enjoyed walking to Broadway theaters. The gym and pool were excellent, and I was able to pair them with runs in nearby Central Park. The lounge, dining room, and bar are all exquisite—sophisticated spaces that feel both grand and inviting. A special mention must go to the housekeeping team, especially Flore, who went above and beyond each day. Her attention to detail and thoughtfulness made our stay even more memorable. The Baccarat offers elegance, comfort, and flawless service. We look forward to returning! Well done.
"Hotel is one of the best; service left much to be desired"
While the hotel itself is beautiful, my recent stay came with a series of frustrations that detracted from the overall experience. First, the in-room technology felt outdated—the TV remote had inoperable buttons (including closed captioning and pause), and one of the curtain control pads did not work. Unfortunately, I only discovered there were two pads on the last day. Housekeeping was inconsistent. On Wednesday, I returned to my room at 3:45 p.m. to find it had not yet been serviced, leaving us without fresh towels before dinner. Dining also had issues. One morning, my breakfast pastry basket consisted only of toast—no croissants, muffins, or pastries. The waiter kindly corrected the error, but the fruit that was supposed to be included never arrived despite being promised. In another instance, I reserved a table at the bar for 6:00 p.m. through a phone call made hours earlier. When I arrived, there was no record of my reservation and no table available. Welcoming guests also proved unnecessarily complicated. I had friends meeting me in the Grand Salon, but because I was unaware of a policy requiring me to call ahead, they were stopped at the entrance. The greeter told them it was “up to them” to call me, but they did not have their phones. Only thanks to a kind stranger offering her cell phone were they able to contact me. A house phone should have been offered—it was an embarrassing and inexcusable situation. Finally, even small details showed neglect. The metal coffee pots failed to keep coffee warm, something that more modern carafes easily solve. To the hotel’s credit, when I voiced my concerns at checkout, the staff member sincerely apologized and extended a generous credit to my bill, which I appreciated. Still, given the reputation of this property, the multiple service lapses made the stay fall short of expectations.
"Luxury Personified"
I just returned from a 5-day stay at the Baccarat Hotel in Midtown Manhattan, and once again, it was nothing short of exceptional. Every visit here exceeds my expectations—this hotel truly defines hospitality at every level. From the moment you arrive, you’re warmly welcomed by the front-of-house team, who go above and beyond throughout your stay. My check-in was seamless, and my room was ready even before noon—a much-appreciated gesture after traveling. The Grand Salon team deserves special recognition. They create an atmosphere that feels like home, remembering names, preferences, and small details in the most genuine way. Their warmth and attentiveness make every interaction special. A heartfelt thank you to Alejandra at concierge, who made my week effortless by arranging dinners and train reservations before I even arrived. She is a joy to work with, always ensuring my happiness with such sincerity. Housekeeping was outstanding. Each day, they kept my room immaculate, organizing everything down to the smallest detail—even my sunglasses. Their consistency and precision were remarkable. The hotel’s gym, pool, and steam room are also excellent, and I made full use of them during my stay. The Baccarat is simply unmatched in New York City’s luxury hotel scene. I have already recommended it to many friends and will never stay anywhere else in the city. Thank you for another unforgettable stay—see you next month!
"Review for afternoon tea"
The Baccarat Hotel certainly lives up to its heritage as a brand synonymous with timeless elegance. The establishment and ambience were absolutely breathtaking, with glittering chandeliers and an atmosphere that honored the legendary crystal maker’s legacy—truly a five-star setting. Unfortunately, the level of service did not match the surroundings. Despite arriving on time for our reservation, we had to wait 20 minutes for our table, joining the crowd of guests lined up in the corridor. Once seated, it took 15 minutes before our drinks order was taken and over an hour before our tea stands arrived. While the staff were friendly, they were clearly understaffed, which made it difficult to get anyone’s attention. Small details, such as the absence of a cloakroom and coats draped over sofas and chairs, also diminished the sense of refinement expected at a five-star hotel. The food itself was excellent. The chef kindly substituted the fish-based savories for alternatives, which seemed to come from the children’s menu, but they were delicious nonetheless. The scones, though visually heavy, were perfectly baked—crisp on the outside and fluffy within. The petite fours were equally delightful, and I was especially pleased to see a refreshing variety without a macaron in sight. As for the tea and tea ware, I was delighted to see Guy Degrenne teapots in use, though the plain white cups, saucers, and plates felt underwhelming compared to the grandeur of the space. The tea itself, a high-quality single estate Assam from Chota Tingrai Estate, was excellent, and I suspect sourced from Bellocq Tea Atelier in Brooklyn, a favorite of mine. My mocktail, Miss Bouquet—a blend of tea, honey, lemon, and grapefruit soda—was refreshing, though at $22, certainly a luxury indulgence. At $145 per person (plus an additional $30 for my husband’s glass of Lallier R.019 champagne), the cost is consistent with other five-star afternoon teas in major cities. However, the lackluster service did not quite justify the price tag. Overall, the Baccarat Hotel offers an afternoon tea in a spectacular setting with delicious food and fine tea, but the service needs to rise to the same standard to deliver the truly seamless five-star experience one expects. My overall score: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.
"Shawn is the best!"
Shawn was absolutely phenomenal. He went above and beyond to ensure that my VIP clients felt truly special and had an unforgettable experience. His patience, kindness, and genuine care for our overall outcome stood out every step of the way. He worked closely with us to make sure everything felt exclusive and seamless, and he delivered a truly top-tier VIP experience. Shawn and his team are outstanding, but he himself is exceptional. I would be thrilled to work with him again and firmly believe he deserves recognition and promotion for the way he handles VIP clients with such excellence.
"Not comparable to other top five stars in NYC"
The hotel is good, but it doesn’t compare to the Peninsula or other true five-star properties. The experience felt impersonal—aside from the doorman, the lobby feels anonymous, and you rarely encounter staff in a meaningful way. We were celebrating our 45th anniversary, yet there was nothing special to mark the occasion, not even a decent cake. The rooms are pleasant, but the furniture in the Grand Classic—chair, sofa, and desk chair—felt cheap and uncomfortable. The steam room took 35 minutes to heat up, only for an alarm to sound that it was too hot. The bed was comfortable, and housekeeping was excellent, but overall, the stay didn’t justify the price.
"Experience the Baccarat Hotel"
This was truly the best hotel experience I’ve ever had! I highly recommend going and experiencing it for yourself. Be sure to ask for Shawndell at the main lobby—he gets the job done every time and makes the stay unforgettable.
"Too much appearance than reality but with potential"
My overall assessment of the Baccarat Hotel falls between average and very good. Priced in the upper segment even for New York, the Grand Classic King room cost more than some 5-star properties in Switzerland and Germany, so my expectations were high. The porters on street level were polite, though at the time of arrival our luggage was left unattended while the level-2 porter escorted us to reception. Our room was not ready in the morning despite advance notice of our early arrival, but my request for a drinking glass with the Evian bottle was promptly granted—a small but appreciated gesture. The cappuccino at the bar was good, though pricey at just under $20 per cup. The room itself, on the 9th floor facing 53rd Street and the MoMA entrance, was spacious, practical, and tastefully furnished. However, some furnishings, like sofas and armchairs, showed wear, with scuffed or torn corners. Early in our stay, the refrigerator in the mini bar hummed loudly, interfering with the air conditioning; a technician kindly installed a switchable extension strip to resolve it at night. Other maintenance issues included a creaky cupboard door, broken drawer hinges, and a blackout curtain that was manually torn out of its guide—problems known to housekeeping but unresolved for three days. The public bar on the second floor shares elevators with hotel guests heading to the pool in bathrobes, which felt awkward. The pool itself is long enough for swimming, though the jacuzzi is overly chlorinated and uncomfortable for the eyes. The fitness studio is adequately equipped, and the steam bath in the changing rooms was only lukewarm. I want to highlight Connor in the hotel shop, who was extremely friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, most concierges were inattentive, not greeting or assisting us. On the positive side, the room’s floor-to-ceiling window offered a pleasant street view with the option to open a small window for fresh air—a rare luxury in Manhattan. Noise on the 9th floor was bearable with windows closed, though garbage collection at night was loud. The hotel has style, a prime location on 53rd Street, and some standout employees, but service and maintenance inconsistencies left room for improvement.
"Pleasant stay"
I absolutely loved my stay at the Baccarat Hotel. From the lounge to the reception, everything was exceptional. The customer service was outstanding—everyone greeted me with a warm smile and was eager to help with any concerns. Thank you for such a memorable experience! — Sabiha
"Almost perfect"
The hotel is excellent, and the staff were attentive and professional throughout our stay. Our Harcourt Suite on the 4th floor was lovely, though we could hear the subway running below—not disruptive, but noticeable. We also tried the afternoon tea, which was disappointing. At $300 for two and without champagne included, it fell short of expectations. Overall, this is a luxurious hotel in a prime midtown location, and I would still recommend it for a high-end NYC stay.
