"Frustrating Experience with MRT Ticketing Policy"
I had a good impression of MRT until February 17, 2025, when I lost my physical stored-value ticket card and went to the counter to buy a replacement. The female staff member asked if I had a bank account (for top-ups) and told me I needed to download the MRT app and register instead. From what I understood—since her English was limited and my Thai is not strong—MRT no longer issues physical stored-value cards. To avoid holding up the long queue behind me, I left, bought a single-trip ticket, and went home to try registering through the app. However, I quickly discovered that registration requires one of three documents: a work permit, Thai ID card, or Thai driving license. I only have a foreign passport with a one-year visa, which is not accepted. This creates a major inconvenience for foreigners, including tourists and expats, who don’t have those documents. Instead of being able to use stored-value cards, we are forced to line up for single-use tickets every trip—time that could otherwise be spent shopping or contributing to the local economy. I’ve faced similar issues with services like TRUE and LINEPAY, which also don’t allow passport registration, but those are less essential than MRT travel. On February 20, I tried contacting the MRT Information Service Centre (0-2624-5200) for clarification. I called on and off for over half an hour, even waiting 20 minutes continuously, but no one ever picked up. From past experience, I expect the answer will simply be that the policy cannot be changed. Still, I would like clear confirmation: has MRT permanently discontinued physical stored-value cards, leaving passengers with only the app or single-use tickets? I hope MRT reconsiders this policy soon so goodwill can be restored, especially for foreign residents and visitors who rely on the system.
"Open Space with Ongoing MRT Construction"
This is a large open area often used for recreational activities. At the moment, temporary offices and facilities have been set up here to support the ongoing MRT construction works.
"Blood Donation Experience"
Today I came for blood donation. The area was mostly clean and comfortable, providing a good environment for the activity.
"Disappointing Monthly Parking Rate Hike"
The transportation service around the city is good, but the monthly parking fee is absolutely ridiculous. Recently, they increased the rate by 25%, which is absurd. How do they expect people whose income barely covers living expenses to afford such a steep hike? It feels like the MRT parking structure is becoming a privilege only for the wealthy, rather than a public service for everyone. This kind of price gouging is unfair and feels like highway robbery. I strongly discourage anyone from purchasing the monthly parking service, as it only feeds into corporate greed and a corrupt system. Public infrastructure should prioritize helping the people, not draining their pockets. It’s disheartening to see a company lose its focus on serving the general population and instead chase profits at the expense of ordinary citizens.
"To: State Railway of Thailand (SRT)"
I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding a serious incident that occurred on May 4, 2025, involving my mother, Ms. Sujint Wongrat, age 76, who was traveling by train from Krungthep Aphiwat Station to Hat Yai Junction Station. Upon arrival at Hat Yai Railway Station, my mother used the public restroom, for which a 3-baht fee was charged. The restroom was located on a different level, and unfortunately, there were no visible warning signs or safety notices indicating the level difference. As a result, she tripped and fell, striking her forehead on the floor and injuring her knee. She sustained bruises all over her body and has since experienced worsening dizziness, requiring continuous medical treatment. I have already submitted a complaint via the official SRT Facebook page but have not yet received any response or explanation from your agency. Given the seriousness of this incident and its impact on my mother’s health, I respectfully request that the State Railway of Thailand take responsibility, particularly in covering her medical expenses and ensuring proper follow-up action. This case highlights a serious safety concern for passengers, especially the elderly, and I urge the SRT to immediately review safety measures at Hat Yai Station and provide proper compensation for the damages suffered. I trust that SRT, as a state agency, will act promptly and justly in addressing this matter. Please confirm receipt of this complaint and advise on the next steps for resolving it.
"Spacious and Convenient Government Office"
I drove an officer to this large government building for about half an hour before returning. The place is big, spacious, and airy, with a convenient parking lot for visitors. I went in the morning, and the timing was good for contacting the office as everything was organized and accessible.
"Good Government Organization with Room for Improvement"
The State Railway of Thailand is generally a dependable government organization that provides essential transportation services for the public. However, there are areas that still require more attention to safety, passenger care, and responsiveness to complaints. Strengthening these aspects would not only improve trust but also enhance the overall experience for travelers.
