"Top-Quality Ceviche, but Expect Long Waits and Slower Service"

This is an excellent spot for top-quality ceviche a la Chalaca—we’ve been here twice and loved the food both times. It’s usually very busy at lunchtime, with lines that can take about 45 minutes from noon to 1 PM. To avoid the wait, come earlier or later. Today, the staff felt slower than on our previous visit. We waited 20 minutes for a table (arriving before noon) and another 10 minutes for a server to take our order. Sitting outside is lovely, but be prepared for the occasional interruptions from street vendors (ambulantes).

"Good Food Overall, but Ceviche Quality Disappoints"

Most of the dishes we tried were tasty, but the ceviche was made with a cheap fish called “Lisa”, which is considered a low-grade product. Unless the owner upgrades the fish quality, I wouldn’t recommend ordering ceviche here.

"Fantastic Food and Attentive Service—Go Early to Avoid the Wait"

The food was fantastic, and the service was really attentive, making for a great dining experience. It was a bit busy with a wait for a table, but we visited during a bank holiday, which likely contributed to the crowd. Arrive early if you want to avoid waiting.

"Great Ceviche and a Must-Try Drink"

You’ve got to try the curatodo drink—it’s made with pineapple, lemongrass, and chamomile, and I came back just for that. The traditional ceviche was also really nice. The location is okay (right in front of a busy avenue) and it gets very crowded at lunchtime, so plan accordingly.

"Ridiculously Long Wait for Food"

Waited 1 hour and 30 minutes… for a sandwich. Completely unacceptable.

"Delicious Peruvian Classics with Excellent Service"

A lovely spot to enjoy classic Peruvian food with excellent service and a great atmosphere. The prices are very reasonable for the quality, offering fantastic value for money.

"Great Seafood and Must-Try Drink, but Expect a Wait"

This is a very nice spot to enjoy seafood, and their curatodo drink is absolutely delicious! The only downside is the limited space, so you’ll likely have to wait 20–30 minutes for a table.

"Excellent Food but Watch Your Belongings"

The food here was excellent, but unfortunately, my bag was stolen off the bar chair while I was eating. Be careful with your belongings if you visit.

"Spectacular Seafood and Top-Notch Service"

This is the best place to enjoy seafood! The customer service was A1, and everything I tried—causa, ceviche, and chicharrón—was absolutely spectacular.

"Good Food Overall, but Skip the Pesca del Día"

The dishes were generally good—ceviches and rice plates were great. However, the Pesca del Día was disappointing and not worth ordering.

Barra Chalaca

Colorful, modern cebichería with fast service, vibrant plates, and great beer pairings.
