"Consistently Great Lunch Experience"
I've been twice for lunch and had great results both times. The market-based cooking keeps the menu fresh and interesting, with dishes changing often. Spanish cuisine is the focus, but with a modern touch, both in presentation and in the sleek venue. The service is warm and professional, adding to the overall enjoyable experience. It's a bit on the pricey side (around €50–60), but definitely worth it for the quality.
"Good Food, But Not Tourist-Friendly"
In my opinion, this place is designed with locals in mind. There’s little to no guidance from the staff, so you’re expected to know the menu ahead of time. You’re also expected to place your full order at the beginning—efficiency seems to take priority. The highlight of our meal was the chicken and pork foie gras, which was excellent with the bread. Just a heads-up: if you don’t tell the server you're still working on your plate, it might be whisked away before you’re done.
"Surpassed Expectations – A Memorable Experience"
This place not only lived up to expectations, it truly surpassed them. The dishes were beautifully presented, with earthy flavors and a distinctive touch. Both the fish and meat were excellent, and the dessert was a perfect finish. The interior design added so much to the overall experience—elegant, thoughtful, and memorable. Very, very nice!
"Solid Experience with Hits and a Few Misses"
Horcher delivers good service and solid food in a beautifully classic setting. The famed schnitzel certainly lives up to its reputation in terms of presentation and portion size — it’s impressive at first glance. However, while it’s a fun dish to try, the flavor can become monotonous about halfway through. For a more balanced and memorable experience, I’d recommend the squid and the “Heart of the Garden” — both are well-executed and flavorful highlights of the menu. Overall, a worthwhile stop if you're looking for a historic and elegant dining experience in Madrid, just be mindful when ordering the heavier dishes.
"Excellent Food, Disjointed Service"
The food at Horcher is undeniably high quality — the sea bass and monkfish mains were excellent, and the overall culinary experience mostly lived up to expectations. However, the service left much to be desired. From the start, things felt rushed. We were asked for our order almost immediately after being seated. The sole appetizer was served fried and full of bones, with no warning — not exactly the welcome you’d hope for. Throughout the meal, we were attended to by four different waitstaff, none of whom checked in to see how our dishes were or offered us additional wine after our first glasses. Ordering a second round of wine proved frustrating: we had to flag someone down, and even then, the wine never came. The dessert menu appeared quickly, but as soon as we declined, the bill followed within seconds — rushed and impersonal. Horcher certainly delivers in terms of cuisine and ambiance, but the inconsistent and impersonal service detracts from the overall experience. If they could streamline table management and improve attentiveness, it would make a world of difference.
"Worth the Effort – A Memorable Dining Experience"
Definitely recommend this place! Getting a reservation can be a bit of a challenge, but it’s absolutely worth it. The atmosphere is charming and elegant, creating a truly special experience from the moment you walk in. The food is both original and delicious — thoughtfully prepared with unique flavors that stand out. Service is warm and professional, making the whole evening feel seamless. Would definitely go back!
