"Good location"

The hotel is in a good location, close to Termini Station and the metro, making it easy to get around the city. However, the neighborhood can appear a bit sketchy, so it’s important to stay alert.

Overall, the hostel is quite decent. It is conveniently located near Termini Station, with the metro just a 3-minute walk and tram and bus options nearby. However, the neighborhood can feel unsafe, especially in the evening, which may concern solo female travelers. The room was clean but overlooked the service staircase and laundry area, making it very dark and noisy even during the day. The hostel is not soundproofed, so it’s not ideal if you like to sleep late or wake up early. The rooftop was closed during our stay, possibly due to the season. The price felt high for the services offered, and bringing your own food is not allowed.

"Good central location, certain staff were moody."

The hostel’s location is excellent, very close to the main transport hub, and walking around at night generally felt safe despite being in a somewhat sketchy area. Daytime staff were friendly, though some night staff were unfriendly. The rooms were tidy, but I did notice dried blood under the bed sheet. Towels and padlocks must be rented, so bring your own if possible. Breakfast was not worth €8, consisting of half a sliced bread, an out-of-date apple, crisps, bottled water, yogurt, and a chocolate croissant, with coffee not available before 7 a.m. My roommates were respectful and quiet at night. There is a bar, but it wasn’t busy and could be better advertised. Despite these issues, the hostel is a good place to stay for exploring Rome. The Colosseum is about a 10–15 minute walk and the main station 5 minutes away. Prices are reasonable for a globally recognized hostel chain. Would I stay again? Yes, mainly for the location, though staff engagement could improve.

"Okay stay but felt like everything was an additional fee"

I stayed for two nights but moved elsewhere after the second night. The vibe felt too much like a budget airline, where everything costs extra. Paying over €90 for a private room and then €6+ for luggage storage was frustrating. Early check-in, even when the room was ready, required an additional €10. There’s no free water, coffee, or snacks, unlike other hostels such as Ostello Bello, which offer complimentary fruit or drinks. Overall, it just felt like a very different, less welcoming atmosphere.

"Lynn’s Summer _ Generator Rome"

The staff at the desk were welcoming and hospitable, making us feel comfortable. The design and décor of the place were a bit unusual and not to my taste, but overall the stay was fine.

"I’ve experienced better Generator hostels"

Nice place to stay in Rome. I really appreciated the location, kitchen facilities, rooftop bar, views, room, bathrooms, and cleanliness. The only downside was that the staff were not very helpful.

Excellent value for the price, with nice staff who spoke good English. The 8-person room was reasonably comfortable and well-equipped, including two bathrooms. The surrounding area was a bit untidy due to proximity to the station, but this is not the fault of the staff.

"Rome experience"

The stay was just about okay. The toilet flush was not working properly, and we had to set up our own beds. Breakfast was not worth the €8 charge.

"Great place for a first solo trip"

As a first-time solo traveler, the female-only 4-bed dorms were great for meeting new people and making friends. The staff were amazing, and the facilities were good. Although some reviews mentioned the area being unsafe at night, I had no issues returning from a night out in Trastevere. The metro station is very close, and the Colosseum is within walking distance. I highly recommend this hostel and would gladly stay here again!

"good"

Very happy with my stay. My room was for six people and had two bathrooms—one medium and one large—which made it easy for everyone to use without stress. The hostel is close to the train station and easy to find. The only minor drawback was the air conditioning, but the room itself stayed cool.

Generator Rome

A centrally located hostel‑hotel near Termini and the Colosseum, offering dorms and private rooms plus a rooftop bar and social atmosphere.
