Gran Hotel Ciudad de México

"Good view on the terrace"
The rooms were comfortable and well-appointed, providing a pleasant stay. However, the food fell short of expectations. While the presentation of the dishes was impressive, the quality was lacking—salted soup was overly thick, creams were heavy, and the stuffed turkey was tough and dry, making for a disappointing dining experience.
"Mexico for Christmas"
The Gran Hotel is truly stunning, located in the historic Zócalo district—full of energy, especially during the holidays. From the moment we arrived, with a red carpet welcome, the property impresses with its grandeur and beauty. The room attendant is excellent, keeping our room immaculate with plenty of towels, and the accommodations themselves are very comfortable. However, we noticed a decline in service over our stay. Simple requests, like fixing a TV disconnecting issue or replenishing water in the gym, were not addressed promptly, which was disappointing given the price and standard of the hotel. Mexico City requires a lot of walking and exploring, so reliable service for breaks and convenience is essential. Overall, the Gran Hotel is a spectacular property with a few service inconsistencies to be aware of. With attention to these details, it could easily offer an unforgettable experience.
"An unmissable experience in Mexico City"
A very nice stay in a beautiful setting! The service was excellent, with Alejandro and Marcelo providing attentive and thoughtful care throughout our visit. Their dedication ensured a smooth and enjoyable experience, making the stay all the more memorable.
"Wonderful experience !!!"
We knew we wanted a historical “Old Mexico” experience, and the Gran Hotel Ciudad de México absolutely delivered! From check-in to check-out, everything was wonderful. The doormen—especially Abraham—were more than just welcoming; their friendly smiles and attentiveness made every arrival feel special. The front desk team, particularly Adrian and Cynthia, went above and beyond to answer questions, convert currency, and arrange airport transportation, day or night. The hotel itself is breathtaking. Pictures hardly capture the beauty of the stained glass ceiling, and riding the original elevator to our room for the first time was a delight. We stayed in Suite 204, which overlooked the square, allowing us to enjoy the activities below. The room was quiet, air conditioning was perfect, and the electric fireplace added a cozy touch. One evening, we even watched the presidential palace soldiers perform the flag-lowering ceremony—an unforgettable sight of pageantry and tradition. Breakfast in the covered, open-air buffet area was amazing, with attentive service from Maria and the staff. A unique highlight was watching the trained falcons in action—a fascinating addition to a truly memorable meal. The location couldn’t be better, with easy walking access to taxis, Uber, nearby attractions, vendors, and Hop-On Hop-Off buses to explore the city. We absolutely loved our stay and wish we had booked longer. Returning to Mexico City, the Gran Hotel will undoubtedly be our first choice!
"Weekend trip to friend’s wedding in Mexico City"
A great stay at the Gran Hotel! The reception and bell staff were friendly and helpful, making check-in and assistance seamless. The rooftop terrace offers wonderful views overlooking the main square, and the hotel’s location is ideal for exploring this part of Mexico City. The surrounding streets feel very safe, with plenty of police and security presence. The only downside was that room cleaning during the day was somewhat slow, but overall, a very enjoyable stay.
"Breakfast in La Terraza"
We had an excellent experience at the restaurant, enjoying not only the food but also the beautiful view. The service was top-notch, making the meal truly memorable. Special thanks to Charles, Alexander, and Mary for their attentiveness and kindness—they went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a combination of great cuisine, superb service, and a wonderful atmosphere!
"Yes, it really does look like that. Shortlist it!"
This grand, historic hotel is truly visually breathtaking—the kind of place where you walk in, look up, and are instantly in awe. We stayed six nights and loved its charm, but there are important things to know before booking. The rooms are spacious, quiet, and comfortable, with large beds, plenty of pillows, and thoughtful touches like blackout curtains. Bathrooms are satisfactory, though I would have liked a bathtub. Some minor issues, like occasionally slow Wi-Fi, TV quirks, and lack of room instructions, were easily resolved by staff. Being a heritage property, the hotel has some “quirks”: old elevators that require a staff escort, dimly lit steps, sharp handrails, and other vintage features that may pose hazards. Accessibility is limited, especially to the Terraza breakfast and dining area, which is reached via a steep spiral staircase. Breakfasts and dinners at the Terraza were excellent, with attentive staff and great views—just dress warmly if there’s a breeze. The Plaza Mayor Bar is only reliably open on weekends, which can be confusing. The lounge offers snacks but could use better coffee facilities. The location is unbeatable, right by the Zócalo, with taxis able to drive right into the hotel for airport trips, though Uber is more cost-effective. Be mindful of traffic and allow extra time for travel; pedestrian streets and local closures can make navigation tricky. In short, this “old lady” hotel has some aging quirks, but for those willing to embrace its character and splurge a bit, it offers a truly memorable and unique stay in the heart of Mexico City.
"Brunch:)"
We thoroughly enjoyed brunch on the hotel terrace—it was a lovely experience! The food was varied and delicious, the terrace beautifully decorated, and the views added a special touch. Alejandro and Maria were wonderful, attentive, and friendly, making the visit even more enjoyable. A perfect spot to relax and savor a great meal!
"ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL; OUT OF THIS WORLD."
This is a delightful hotel, highlighted by a superb rooftop terrace where we enjoyed dinner twice during our three-night stay. Housekeeping was excellent, and the staff were friendly and generally efficient, making for a pleasant overall experience. There were a few minor inconveniences: access can be challenging, as suitcases must be handled some distance along a pedestrian-only street, and no assistance was provided for a steep staircase. Additionally, the in-room phone for requests like ice was unreliable, requiring visits to the reception instead. Despite these small issues, we will certainly return and plan to book directly through the hotel’s website again, which made adjusting our plans very easy. A charming stay overall!
"LOVED IT!"
The brunch was absolutely delightful—excellent food, a spectacular view, and impeccable service. Alexander and Mary went above and beyond, making the experience truly memorable. Every detail, from the presentation to the attention of the staff, was top-notch. A must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy a delicious meal in a beautiful setting!
