"Terrible Experience — Would Not Recommend"

We joined a tour from Queenstown to Christchurch and it was a horrible experience. From Queenstown to Mount Cook, we made a couple of photo stops, which was nice, but one 30-minute stop at a café felt unnecessary — that time would have been better spent at Mount Cook. Once there, we were only given about 1 hour and 45 minutes, which isn’t enough for a proper hike unless you rush. Other than hiking, there’s not much to do besides eating at the cafeteria. The trip got even worse from Mount Cook to Christchurch. The driver changed, and it was obvious he was inexperienced — he had a supervisor teaching him the route during the ride. About an hour later, we stopped near restrooms but skipped the stop by the Church of the Good Shepherd at Lake Tekapo, which was clearly listed in the tour itinerary. When I asked why, the supervisor bluntly said they were late and didn’t care about the tour. The rest of the trip was a long, silent four-hour drive with a few restroom stops. The driver gave no commentary, and the bus seemed to be used as a driver training session. Overall, a huge disappointment — never again.

"Terrible Customer Service – Very Disappointing Experience"

I booked the Hobbiton tour with GreatSights from Auckland, but unfortunately, due to a traffic accident on our way to the pickup point, we arrived just 5 minutes late. We immediately called their customer service to explain the situation and let them know we were almost there, but they refused to contact the driver or wait a few minutes for us. The bus left without us, and they also refused to refund or rebook us for another tour. It was incredibly frustrating and disappointing, especially since every other tour I joined in New Zealand showed flexibility and waited for delayed passengers — which is just common sense and good customer service. GreatSights completely failed to show any understanding or professionalism. I do not recommend this company at all.

"Good Tour, but Poor Drop-Off Experience"

The coach was comfortable and the guide was engaging. We really enjoyed the Waitomo Caves and Hobbiton — both were great highlights of the day. However, don’t rely on the onboard WiFi — it was basically dial-up speeds the entire journey. The biggest disappointment was not being dropped off at our hotel, even though hotel pickup and drop-off were included in the booking. Having to walk from the downtown terminal to our hotel at dusk was not ideal. Considering these tours are priced higher than competitors, I expected a more seamless experience and better service.

"Perfect Way to See Waitomo & Hobbiton in One Day!"

I think this is the best way to visit both attractions — Waitomo and Hobbiton — from Auckland in just one day. We were conveniently dropped off in Rotorua, which made the trip even better. Our driver and guide, Rachel, was one of the best we’ve ever met — knowledgeable, friendly, and so much fun! Thanks for a great experience!

"Disappointed by Driver’s Behavior"

My three-star review is based solely on how we were treated by one particular bus driver. I’ve already sent a detailed email to the company about the incident. We had booked a Milford Sound tour through another company, but the first leg of our trip was operated by GreatSights. Unfortunately, the bus driver’s behavior was rude and dismissive — not only toward me and my daughter but also toward several other passengers. I’m hopeful this was just an off day for her, but I do hope GreatSights addresses this issue and ensures better customer service going forward.

"Absolutely Worth It – An Unforgettable Milford Sound Experience!"

What an amazing experience! Yes, the road from Queenstown to Milford Sound is long, but it’s completely worth it. I loved that I didn’t have to book a night in Te Anau and try to guess which day would be best — the flexible tour date made it so much easier to stay in Queenstown, where there’s plenty to see and do. I got incredibly lucky with the weather — sunshine, waterfalls, and stunning views all around. The drive itself was beautiful and really enjoyable. Truly one of my favorite days in New Zealand! ❤️
