Hotel Ajanta

"Terrible and Pathetic Stay"
This was one of the worst hotel stays I’ve ever experienced. Despite arriving after the stipulated check-in time (2 p.m.), my room was still not ready. I was initially given a very small, windowless room—barely 150 sq ft—far smaller than the 269 sq ft deluxe room I had paid for. After raising the issue, I was moved to another room, but it was plagued by loud construction noises from the adjoining area throughout my three-day stay, making it a miserable experience. To add to the frustration, the TV in the room was not working properly. Overall, this stay was extremely disappointing and not at all what I expected.
"Best stay"
We stayed at Ajanta Hotel on our way to the hills and again on our return because of its close proximity to the railway station, which makes it very convenient. We arrived very late but felt warmly welcomed. The room was comfortable and cool, and we were even able to order a great meal in the middle of the night. Overall, it was a good stay—thank you!
"Mediocre"
At first, the hotel looked nice from the outside, but the experience inside was disappointing. The room was not cleaned as thoroughly as I had hoped, and there was a constant, strong smell of cigarette smoke, which was unpleasant. While we had a large room with windows, some of our family members’ rooms had no windows at all. The hotel wasn’t terrible, but I wouldn’t choose to return. Additionally, locals advised us that the area isn’t very safe, especially for females walking alone, which added to our concerns.
"Disappointed stay in Delhi"
This hotel was not what I expected. The rooms were very small and looked nothing like the pictures online. We changed our room, but all the rooms seemed to be similar in size. The washrooms were also very old and in need of renovation. I was quite disappointed with my booking. On a positive note, the food was okay, and the hotel is close to the main sightseeing spots, which was convenient.
"A very dated hotel that needs a lot of money spent updating it."
The pre-holiday communications were confusing, as they sent a taxi to pick us up a day early! Although the driver did eventually arrive as expected, I was still asked to pay the airport parking charge, which made the "free airport pick-up" misleading. The room was okay but very dated, with a bathroom that felt stuck in the 1980s and an unappealing view. The air conditioning wasn’t very effective either. Was the stay acceptable? Just about. Would I stay here again? No. It’s worth paying a bit more to stay somewhere more upmarket.
"Once and never again!"
The Ajanta Hotel is located in the liveliest part of the Paharganj district, which means it’s very noisy until well after midnight and then again from around 6 a.m. If you book a "deluxe room" with a balcony, you’re guaranteed plenty of street noise, while the windowless "solitary confinement rooms" are the only quieter alternative. We had booked a Premier Room with free airport pickup. The room itself was clean, relatively large, and had a balcony, but the noise level was extreme due to the location. To make matters worse, although we had emailed the hotel regarding the airport pickup, it was not provided, and our email was never even acknowledged. For those booking half board, breakfast is served as a small buffet, while dinner is à la carte. Unfortunately, despite a fairly extensive menu, guests on half board are only allowed to choose from four designated (and cheapest) dishes. Overall, the noise, lack of communication, and restrictive dining options made this a disappointing stay.
"Would have been perfect if I was given the room I asked for and not the one I asked not to have. Noisy outside front"
This was our second stay at Hotel Ajanta, the first being when we arrived in Delhi a month ago. We enjoyed that initial stay despite the noise outside our room (which I understand isn’t the hotel’s fault). The food was excellent and good value for money, and the breakfast buffet included in the room rate was very good. The rooms were clean, and the en suite had plenty of hot water. However, when I checked out after the first stay, I reserved a luxury family room for our return visit and was assured it would be ready. When we arrived back 24 days later, I asked if the requested room was available, was told it was, and even paid for it. But when we were shown to our room, it was the same one we’d stayed in previously—the room I specifically requested not to be allocated again. When I questioned this, I was told there were no other family rooms available. By that point it was late, we were tired, and we decided not to make a fuss. Unfortunately, the same noise outside—hammering metal and cutting with grinders—kept us awake past midnight. With a 24-hour journey ahead of us and a 6-hour drive after that, this was far from ideal. The hotel is okay, and the food remains excellent, but I’m disappointed that my request, made nearly a month in advance, was ignored and that no alternatives were offered. This all could have been avoided had my request been heard and honored.
"“Terrible Experience – Avoid If You’re Used to Good Hotels”"
If you’ve previously stayed in real 4- or 5-star hotels in other countries, this hotel will feel like a nightmare. Cleanliness and hygiene standards here are extremely poor. The sheets and towels were old and dirty, the hallways constantly smelled bad and were never cleaned, and the breakfast was basic with no variety. We arrived at 11 PM and were given the worst room in the hotel—it had no closet, no hairdryer, and a strong sewage odor. After complaining, we were told there were no other rooms available and were temporarily moved to a family room, with a promise to be relocated the next day. Over our 3-day stay, we ended up having to change rooms twice. There isn’t even a proper lobby, so there’s nowhere to sit and wait. The hotel’s location near Delhi train station makes the area extremely crowded and noisy, with endless car honking that can be heard from the rooms. Getting a taxi can also take ages due to the constant traffic. Calling reception for assistance doesn’t help either—you’ll have to go in person to get anything you need. The staff’s attitude was far from friendly, which only added to the disappointment. In summary, if you’re used to staying in good hotels, do yourself a favor and avoid this one.
"Disappointed Very very Bad Arrogant front Desk staff"
I booked this hotel through MakeMyTrip for one night with breakfast and had requested an early check-in a day in advance. When I arrived at 5 a.m. with my two kids (ages 5 and 11) and my wife, who is a patient, the front office staff made us wait until 11 a.m. without any assistance or even a glass of water. There was no welcome drink, no consideration for our situation—nothing. Mr. Deepak at the reception, along with another staff member, spoke to me arrogantly and in a way that was completely unacceptable, as if they owned the hotel. This behavior was especially hard to tolerate while traveling with my family. On a positive note, I met the hotel owner the next day in the lobby, and he was a decent and amazing personality. My humble request to the owner is to please train your staff and teach them proper customer service, because as it stands, I will never return to this hotel after such a disappointing experience.
"3 weeks in North India"
During my holiday in northern India, I had the pleasure of receiving exceptional assistance from Mr. Rachid at Hotel Ajanta, who organized my entire stay in the region. Besides offering comfortable and well-located accommodation, he also arranged a driver to accompany me throughout my three weeks of travel. The attention to detail and warm hospitality made all the difference, ensuring my experience in India was peaceful and truly unforgettable. I highly recommend Hotel Ajanta and Mr. Rachid’s services for anyone looking to explore the region with convenience and comfort!
"delhi, agra, jaipur, ajmer family vacation"
Our stay at Ajanta Hotel in Paharganj was a pleasant experience. The hotel, though old, is well-maintained and family-friendly. The service desk staff were courteous and helpful throughout our stay, which made the experience smooth and enjoyable. The property has a charming old-world vibe, but its age does show in the décor and fittings. While the ambiance adds character, the hotel could benefit from upgrades—particularly in the plumbing—as some rooms experienced low water pressure. A balance of modern amenities and updated fittings would greatly enhance the overall stay.
"Great hotel"
I had almost forgotten about our stay here, but once again, the Ajanta Hotel was amazing. The staff are very helpful, especially the young lady at the front desk—nothing is ever too much trouble for her. We only had breakfast here, but it was very nice. I’ll definitely be staying here again if I ever return to Delhi.
