Hotel Granvia

"Air conditioning broke the first night"
The AC in our room broke, and no action was taken on the first night—there was also no compensation. The room was extremely hot, making it almost impossible to sleep. The hotel blamed the heat and the sunny side, but after one night, we were moved to another room with a working AC, which was comfortable. While the second room was fine, it doesn’t change the poor handling of the first night. If the staff and management had been responsive and taken the problem seriously, our rating would have been higher. Unexpected issues can happen, but ignoring them is disappointing.
"Better than any highly rated hotel in Barcelona!"
My husband and I stayed at Hotel Granvia for a few nights during the first week of August. The staff were friendly, the rooms larger than average, and the decor charming. The space was very clean, and the location was fantastic—we were able to walk everywhere! I truly have no complaints and will always choose to stay here whenever I visit Barcelona.
"Nice discovery. I recommend with my eyes closed."
This hotel is very comfortable and beautifully decorated, with discreet and efficient staff. Breakfast was varied and delicious, and the terrace was a lovely spot to relax. Conveniently located near the metro and major tourist attractions, our room at the back was very quiet, making for a peaceful stay.
"Better hotels out there"
For the price paid, this hotel felt fairly average, as better options are available. Negatives: The bathroom had a sewage odor, air conditioning was poor and the room remained hot even at maximum, and there were no slippers or in-room iron. Positives: Housekeeping was good, the hotel was clean, and the location is convenient—just a 5–10 minute walk from La Rambla. There’s also an Aldi next door.
"Barcelona"
The superior rooms were very comfortable, and the classic room was fine, though it had issues with water dripping from the AC and leakage in the WC. Breakfast could definitely be improved. Oscar at reception was extremely helpful, and the hotel’s central location made exploring the city very convenient.
"What’s around Heart of Barcelona"
This hotel is in a fantastic location and very clean, especially in the common areas. Inside the room, there was an unpleasant smell from the toilet drains, which could easily be improved by keeping the sink cap closed. Apart from this minor issue, the property is excellent. Breakfast is varied, offering both sweet and savory options, and in the afternoon, drinks, desserts, and bocadillos are served for tea time (4:00–5:30). The staff are courteous and helpful, providing a map on arrival with nearby attractions, streets, and restaurant recommendations—helpful guidance that we truly appreciated.
"Lovely, updated hotel. Beautifully decorated. Great location, shopping and walking distance to Rambla. A little noisy"
Lovely hotel at a reasonable price. We couldn’t get adjoining rooms despite booking early. The hotel offers few amenities, but the staff were nice and helpful. Located on a busy street, it can be a little noisy, so requesting a higher floor is a good idea. The location is excellent—close to La Rambla and shopping. The breakfast room is beautiful, and the included breakfast was adequate.
"Too many disappointments"
The best aspects of this hotel are its prime location—within walking distance of many restaurants and attractions—and its stunning aesthetics, including a grand central staircase and lovely courtyard. Unfortunately, our experience did not live up to this. Our bedroom was extremely small, akin to a “New York tiny” room, and unbearably hot, even in March. The air conditioning barely worked, and the window opened onto an internal atrium, offering little relief. Sleep was restless due to the heat and cramped space. Tea and coffee facilities in the room were not replenished during our stay, and fresh towels were not consistently provided. Breakfast was average, with few hot options, though served in a pleasant setting. I strongly recommend double-checking room size and position before booking, as this was not clearly stated on booking.com.
"Room 106 a nightmare . but just that one"
My stay at this hotel was a real nightmare because I was given the only noisy room—Room 106. The door opens onto the large entrance hall, and loud music continued until midnight. Early in the morning, all the conversations from the hall and breakfast area were extremely disruptive. The hotel itself is beautiful, the rooms are nice and clean, and the breakfast area is lovely. It seems other guests had no issues because their rooms were in quieter sections.
"Perfect Central Hotel for Exploring Barcelona"
We planned an off-season trip to Barcelona and chose this hotel based on a Rick Steves guide recommendation. The price was very reasonable, and from the moment we arrived early in the morning, the hotel treated us like valued guests—allowing us to freshen up and store our bags before check-in. The location is excellent, within walking distance of Gaudi’s Casa Batlló and Casa Milà, Passeig de Gràcia, La Rambla, Plaça Catalunya, and the Gothic Quarter. Sagrada Familia is also walkable if you don’t mind a longer stroll. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the daily breakfast is amazing (though plentiful enough to be filling!). Rooms are comfortable and clean. Occasionally there was a slight bathroom odor—a common issue in Barcelona—but it did not affect our stay. Overall, this hotel is perfect for exploring the city.
"Beautiful hotel with wonderful public spaces and an epic breakfast."
The public spaces in this hotel are beautiful, functional, and comfortable. The breakfast room is massive, offering plenty of indoor and outdoor seating with tables, sofas, and lounges. There’s also a large terrace with both covered and uncovered seating, and iced water and coffee are always available on the terrace and in the breakfast room. A cozy library off the breakfast area provides additional relaxing space. Breakfast is generous and delicious, featuring multiple juices, yogurts, breads, cheeses, meats, cakes, crepes, pan con tomate, fresh fruit, toast, muffins, and pastries. Our room was spacious with a very comfortable bed and linens. The bathroom was spotlessly clean, with a large shower, plenty of hot water, and strong water pressure. For the best experience, request a room with an exterior view.
"Location."
The hotel’s location is excellent—within walking distance to the Basilica, shopping, and other Gaudí attractions, with plenty of good restaurants nearby. The rooms are small, offering limited space to unpack, which was a bit tight for my 3-day visit. The terrace is a nice retreat, though not a rooftop. Breakfast is well presented but somewhat limited. Room cleaning was a little late and not always thorough.
