"A great location for a relaxing holiday"

We’ve stayed here a few times, and our most recent visit was for a week in early July. We actually requested a downgrade from a sea view pod to one in Block 3, as we prefer the more private terraces there. There have been a few minor improvements, including much larger fridges in the lounge area and a bar open in the evenings at reception. Our only disappointment was that most of the waiters we remembered from previous visits have left, and the replacements are not as friendly as in the past. We enjoy the half-board option, with four nights of waiter service and three nights of buffet—the food is consistently good. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t ideal, being windier than usual for the time of year. The rooms are very clean, and the staff work hard to maintain the development. However, as others have mentioned, the pods—particularly the bathrooms—are in need of refurbishment.

"This is NOT what we’re used to."

The property looks good in photos, but these may have been taken when it was newly built. In reality, it desperately needs modernising. There is no air conditioning in the living room or bathroom, making these areas virtually unusable in the heat. The TV offers only one English channel, with no Netflix or movies, and some Spanish channels suffer interference. The Wi-Fi is unreliable, and the floors are not properly cleaned. Sinks and other facilities have maintenance issues, and almost everything incurs a charge—water, coffee, laundry, and even the safe. The receptionist was unhelpful; despite repeated requests, a restaurant reservation for my birthday was not made. This lack of service is extremely disappointing. On the positive side, the pool is clean, the gym is free, and the restaurant staff are excellent, though the food is basic and repetitive. The grounds feature caged animals, which is distressing in the heat. Access to the beach is down a cliff, which isn’t clearly advertised. For disabled guests, the uneven ground and numerous stairs make getting around extremely difficult. There are also few nearby amenities and taxis are hard to find. Overall, this property feels out of season and poorly maintained. If comfort, accessibility, and modern facilities are important, it may be better to consider other options.

"Our favorite corner"

We are loyal customers of this hotel, which has become one of our favorite places. The large garden areas and spacious, comfortable rooms make it perfect for relaxing. One of the few hotels in the area where you don’t have to queue for lunch or breakfast, and the room terraces offer great privacy. The best part is undoubtedly the professionalism and friendliness of the staff, making every stay a pleasure.

"Original place"

The place was beautiful and truly spectacular, with the igloo-style bathroom being a particular highlight. The rooms were very comfortable and inviting, making our stay extremely pleasant. The staff were exceptionally friendly, and the breakfast was outstanding—a perfect way to start the day!

"Wonderful Complex, shame about the accommodation."

We arrived late in the evening and were warmly welcomed by Bernardo, who, along with most reception staff, was extremely helpful. The apartments themselves are spacious and clean, with a fantastic lounge offering great sea views, a large bedroom with air-conditioning, a huge hallway with plenty of storage, and a bathroom with both a shower and jacuzzi bath. The terrace and courtyard were pleasant and private. Beds were comfortable, though the apartment is slightly dated and could do with modernisation. Unfortunately, there was a persistent rancid smell from the bathroom, which continued despite staff trying to resolve it daily. This made using the indoor facilities very unpleasant, and we relied on the outdoor shower and bottled water. While the staff were apologetic, this really detracted from the experience and falls short of a 4-star standard. The restaurant and bar areas are appealing, with great outside seating. The buffet was basic, particularly for vegetarians, and the grill night raised hygiene concerns, so we often dined out instead. Breakfast was adequate, though limited in variety. The gardens and pool area are well maintained, with plenty of sunbeds and towels provided. Live entertainment was enjoyable but limited to set times, which felt rushed during meals. On the positive side, Costa Calma itself is a low-key, charming resort with beautiful beaches, nice coastal walks, and plenty of restaurants and shops. The quirky villas have great potential if updated. Overall, while the location and layout are appealing, the dated apartments and persistent bathroom issue mean this is not quite a 4-star experience. With a bit of modernisation, it could be excellent.

"Livvo Risco Del Gato"

The hotel isn’t very central and is about an hour from the airport. The pool is small but decent, and the beach is only 200 meters away—absolutely beautiful! 😍 The reception staff, Conchy and Miranda, were incredibly accommodating and friendly, making sure my stay was wonderful. 😊 Breakfast was a bit disappointing, with a limited selection that felt like a typical English buffet of beans and eggs. The highlight, however, was the omelets made by Lionel, which were perfect! 👌 The main reason I chose this hotel was that it’s dog-friendly 🐕, which made it ideal for me and my furry friend.

"Very quiet hotel"

Exceptionally quiet and relaxing, even when fully occupied. The accommodation is spacious and just a few minutes’ walk from the sandy beach through the roadside gates. We loved the evening dinners, which varied daily between buffet, à la carte, or buffet style. All areas were very clean, and the hotel is ideal for a warm, sunny, and relaxing holiday. The airport is approximately 55 minutes by car, or around 80 minutes via shared transfer.

"Welcome to the ’80s"

This hotel feels like a time capsule from the 1980s. The furniture and décor have barely changed since its inauguration, and the structures clearly show the passage of time. The property has enormous potential and could be a truly luxurious hotel if it were updated—especially the rooms and public areas. Unfortunately, the restaurant and kitchen are a major disappointment. The food is of mediocre quality and often overcooked to mask this. Cleanliness is lacking, particularly on the griddle where bacon is cooked alongside pancakes for guests to see. Dinner portions are huge, seemingly to compensate for the lack of skill and quality, but they end up being far from enjoyable. On several nights, despite having all-inclusive meals included, my partner and I chose to buy snacks and fruit from the supermarket and eat in our room instead. With some investment in modernizing the hotel and overhauling the kitchen, this property could truly shine. As it stands, it feels outdated and the dining experience is a letdown.

"Be careful when you book!"

We had a lovely holiday in Costa Calma, staying at the Risco Del Gato Suites. The resort itself is nice, with beautiful beaches nearby, and the restaurant offers a very good buffet breakfast with reasonable service. However, there are some issues future guests should be aware of. The gym is in poor condition—equipment is old, some items are broken or unsafe, and the weights area is never tidied properly. A quick 5-minute mop in the morning is all the cleaning it gets. Our main concern was with the suite booking. We booked a suite with a sea view, but there was no sea view from inside the suite at all. The only view is from a public outdoor area, meaning you have to sit outside with guests constantly walking past, offering no privacy if you want to relax with a drink and enjoy the distant sea. The hotel denied a refund for the extra charge, which felt misleading. Service at the restaurant was adequate, though waiters were often unsmiling. Overall, the stay was enjoyable, but don’t pay extra for a sea view—you’re likely better off with a regular suite.

"Great if like peace and quiet"

Older hotel, very clean. Loved the size of the room/ suite plus private courtyard too. Food good always something to eat from either buffet, 3 times a week or the served meals,4 times a weeks Breakfast was great including freshly cooked eggs, bacon, pancakes etc. O n the edge of the resort/bay but ok as we had a hire car included, which I would recommend if you want to see the island. Definitely the quieter part of the island but perfect for us.

"Quirky, quiet, but tired"

The rooms are unique and charming, reminiscent of César Manrique’s iconic style in Lanzarote—a definite highlight. The air conditioning in the bedroom was very effective, and the hotel and pool areas were quiet and well-kept. However, the property feels a bit worn and in need of care. There was a noticeable damp smell in the bathroom due to poor ventilation, and the outdoor seating areas near the rooms were difficult to enjoy because of a persistent drain odor. The hotel is about a ten-minute walk into town, where you’ll find a busy cluster of restaurants and a small shopping center. We appreciated trying this as an alternative to large resort hotels, but unfortunately, we won’t be returning.
