JetSMART Peru

"Terrible."
JetSmart is by far the worst airline American Airlines could have partnered with. We were not allowed to check in for our flight and were told it was American Airlines’ fault. The JetSmart staff were not only unhelpful but also extremely rude. We had to repurchase our flight tickets twice—on our own—with zero assistance from JetSmart. They did not reimburse us a single cent. On July 22, 2025, while departing from Cusco, the airline staff showed up late, creating an extremely long line. Many passengers, understandably frustrated, were at risk of missing their flights. This was a chaotic, stressful, and unacceptable experience. I will never book with JetSmart again and do not recommend it to anyone.
"Excellent value for money."
I flew JetSmart twice domestically in Argentina during my vacation and had a perfectly smooth experience both times. I opted for the largest package, which included priority boarding, an exit row seat, and a checked bag—all for just USD $80. Both flights were on brand-new A321 aircraft. One flight left about 10 minutes late but still arrived on time. Overall, the process was efficient, the service was solid, and I have no complaints. It’s worth noting that many negative reviews come from people who may not fully understand low-cost airline policies. As long as you know what you're booking and follow the guidelines, JetSmart offers excellent value.
"Ok experience but penny-pinching on seating."
I was really worried after booking my flight and then reading all the terrible reviews about JetSmart. Thankfully, the experience turned out fine overall. However, their seat policy is incredibly petty. If you don’t pay extra to choose your seats, they will intentionally split your group up—my companion and I were placed in rows 6 and 24. On top of that, even if the exit rows are empty, they won’t let anyone move there unless they’ve paid for it. It felt unnecessarily rigid. Despite that, everything else went smoothly. Just be prepared for these kinds of nickel-and-dime policies if you choose not to pay extra.
"Eh"
At first, JetSmart seemed like a great budget airline. But once the extras started piling up—seat selection, bag fees, and more—it became frustrating. We paid for an oversized carry-on bag, assuming our backpacking pack would qualify. It didn’t. Even though we also paid for a personal item that easily fit under the seat, they still made us check the pack at an additional cost. Flights are packed (understandable), but there’s barely any overhead space. On our Lima to Cusco leg, there was zero space left for any bags, which made the boarding process chaotic and slow. Their baggage policy is seriously strict. And trying to check in online? A nightmare. I used three phones, two computers, and four different cards over two days before finally managing to check in—both to and from Cusco. I even had to call my mom in the U.S. to help complete the process while we were abroad. Budget airline or not, it shouldn’t be this difficult.
"Unable to check in."
JetSmart’s partnership with American Airlines is a complete disaster. We were unable to check in either online or in person. Both airlines kept pointing fingers—JetSmart blaming American Airlines and vice versa—without offering any real help. Because of this back-and-forth, we missed our flight and had to rebook tickets twice out of our own pocket. JetSmart offered zero assistance and no reimbursement whatsoever. This was one of the most frustrating and stressful travel experiences I’ve ever had. Do not recommend this airline under any circumstances.
"Had to pay for a personal accesory"
For a short flight, the service and punctuality were perfectly acceptable. However, what really soured the experience was the unexpected charge for a small personal item—a basic cabin bag that every other airline allows for free. Being charged over $20 for something so standard felt like a scam. It’s frustrating not knowing how many other surprise fees travelers might be hit with. I won’t be flying with this airline again.
"JetSMART Is a Complete Scam – Avoid at All Costs"
JetSMART was by far the worst airline experience I’ve had. Their website kept throwing server errors when I tried to check in—clearly a system issue on their end. But when I got to the airport, the staff blamed my phone or internet and made me pay 40 soles just to check in. Absolutely outrageous. This wasn’t a customer error—it was a technical failure they refused to acknowledge. Instead of taking responsibility, they push the blame and charge you for their incompetence. It's not just bad service, it feels deliberately dishonest. I will never fly JetSMART again and strongly urge others to avoid them too.
"Not worth the savings, you end up paying the same."
Terrible experience with JetSMART. Our flight was delayed not just once, but multiple times. On top of that, they charge for everything—in-person check-in, carry-on bags, and more. By the time you add up all the hidden costs, you could’ve booked with a more reliable airline for the same price. You really do get what you pay for. Not worth the hassle.
"Worst experience ever"
Bought a full-price ticket for my aunt to allow flexibility in case of any changes. She arrived at the airport 1.5 hours before the flight, only to find the check-in already closed. Staff at the counter were extremely rude and unhelpful—told her to call the call center instead of assisting on-site. She struggled to get through due to the phone system rejecting her number input. By the time someone finally tried to help, the cutoff had passed. Even though there was another flight the same day, they refused to accommodate her—even for a fee. Worst experience ever. Absolutely unacceptable.
"Damaged plane a disaster"
We were boarded onto the plane and just as it was about to take off, they announced a "minor issue" that would take 10 minutes. Hours later—at 1:30 a.m.—they told us the plane couldn’t fly for safety reasons. Complete waste of time. The situation was handled with zero transparency, very poor communication, and overall disorganization. Worst of all, this isn't the first time I’ve had issues with this airline. I do not recommend flying with them.
