Mandarin Oriental Barcelona

"Simply not worth the ridiculous prices on any level."
Simply put, it is not worth the ridiculous amount they charge—€1800 for 2 adults and 1 child! For that price, the service should have been much better. We received no welcome, no information was provided, and overall the experience was very disappointing. Definitely not good enough for what they ask.
"High class rooftop bar in central Barcelona"
I visited the rooftop bar at the extraordinary Mandarin Oriental in Barcelona and had a wonderful experience. The staff were exemplary—attentive, professional, and genuinely welcoming. The drinks were excellent, perfectly crafted, and the view was absolutely stunning. Of course, prices are on the higher side, but that’s to be expected in such a luxurious setting. If you’re fortunate enough to treat yourself, I highly recommend it for a memorable evening in the city.
"Disappointing stay"
This hotel did not fully meet our expectations. While the location is central, our room at the back was disappointing. It overlooked a large courtyard, but the surrounding buildings were untidy, and the courtyard often housed a play area with loud children, which was disruptive. The restaurant, although serving good food, felt rather sterile and lacked the ambiance one would expect from a five-star property. Additionally, the bed was quite low and uncomfortable. Overall, despite some positive aspects, our stay was underwhelming and did not live up to the standards expected from a luxury hotel.
"LOCATION FOR TOURISTS"
My check-in experience initially left a bad impression, as I was asked to return at 2:00 p.m., only to be told the room wouldn’t be ready until 3:00 p.m., and even then I received a call two minutes after the hour. While I understand check-in is officially at 3:00, a bit of flexibility would help compensate for the hotel’s limited amenities, such as the small pool and gym. Fortunately, a gracious supervisor turned this around by waiving my breakfast charge, which was a genuinely thoughtful gesture. Most staff genuinely care, the room was neat and well-appointed, and the room service breakfast was phenomenal. That said, the hotel’s overall atmosphere felt a bit dull and soulless.
"Hotel is in a great location"
Beautiful hotel in an excellent location, close to shopping, the metro, and numerous restaurants. We stayed in a spacious deluxe room with a view of Passeig de Gracia, which offered excellent facilities, a comfortable bed, and a shower in the bathroom (no bath). While we enjoyed our stay, we felt it was not worth the high price—about double what comparable hotels charge. The breakfast experience was particularly disappointing, as it was overcrowded, with limited space to move around the buffet and a fairly restricted selection of food. We booked the Mandarin Oriental Barcelona based on our experience at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi, but it did not quite feel like the same level of luxury. If we return to Barcelona for a short stay, we would choose a similar location but try a different hotel.
"A normal hotel, if you don’t pick too much!"
The hotel as a whole is decent, though compared to other hotels in this chain, it falls short. The location is excellent, and the team at the entrance is wonderful, always ready to help. Reception offered a warm welcome, and our room was fairly good. However, the breakfast menu was limited, and the service could be much better, with the concierge service being particularly disappointing. Despite these drawbacks, we were able to relax, and our overall mood was not spoiled.
"Less than Anticipated"
We stayed for four nights at this hotel. The positives included a clean and attractive room in excellent condition, as well as a superb location for touring and shopping. Upon arrival, a cheese tray and bonbons were waiting for us, which was a nice touch. The indoor pool was warm and swimmable, and the rooftop restaurant offered stunning city views along with an interesting Peruvian menu. The breakfast buffet was of high quality, although not particularly extensive. On the downside, our room was very small and on a low floor facing Passeig de Gracia, meaning street noise persisted well past midnight on the weekend. Despite being told we would receive a special treat for our 36th wedding anniversary, nothing was provided during our stay until we requested it, and even then it was a minor gesture. The concierge also gave us incorrect directions to a Michelin-starred restaurant, making us 20 minutes late. On our last morning, we requested a wake-up call and breakfast in the room for an early train; while breakfast eventually arrived on time, the wake-up call never came. Overall, we were disappointed with the stay and felt it did not live up to expectations.
"Starting to show its age"
The Mandarin Oriental in Barcelona boasts an unbeatable location, allowing guests to walk almost anywhere in the city. However, on this trip, the hotel showed signs of wear and tear, especially noticeable after staying at the newer Four Seasons in Madrid. Our room had some minor wall stains and scuffed desk surfaces, and the bed linens weren’t properly ironed on two occasions. While these issues were not extreme, they were noticeable and detracted from the experience. The hotel is certainly not inexpensive, and a renovation would go a long way in restoring its full luxury appeal.
"Non-hotel guests are not permitted in the hotel bar/restaurant."
I entered this lovely hotel hoping to enjoy a drink at their Banker's Bar, only to be informed of a private event taking place. They kindly redirected me to their Blanc restaurant, but after waiting at the check-in desk for five minutes, I was asked if I was a hotel guest. When I replied no, I was told the restaurant was overbooked, even though there were clearly many empty tables. Only after expressing my frustration to the friendly lady at the entrance—mentioning that I usually stay in five-star hotels and was considering this one for my next trip—did they suddenly find me a table. By then, however, the atmosphere felt unwelcoming, so I declined. I may give it another try later this week, but unfortunately, my first impression was far from the level of service one would expect from a five-star establishment.
"An unforgettable night"
We celebrated our anniversary at the Mandarin and couldn’t have had a better experience. We started at Terrat, the terrace, for an aperitif. It’s a beautiful spot with stunning city views, and the drinks were delicious. Ariana’s service was outstanding—definitely a 10/10. For dinner, we went to Blanc, and it was simply wonderful. Pablo served us with warmth, professionalism, and excellent recommendations. The food was exquisite, and the desserts were unbeatable. Highly, highly recommended—we will never forget this special celebration!
"Wonderful hotel!"
We had a very pleasant stay at this hotel. The Junior Suite was absolutely gorgeous, and the service was impeccable. We enjoyed exploring the city from the hotel’s central location and had a memorable dining experience at Moments, which is rightly awarded two Michelin stars. While the rooms were impressive, the common areas felt a bit plain and cold. On the other hand, the pool and gym were excellent. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel for its prime location and outstanding services.
"A bit disappointing."
We had high expectations for our stay, and while some aspects of the hotel were impressive, others fell short. The room was very clean, yet the bed was not particularly comfortable, and noise from neighboring rooms was surprisingly intrusive. Breakfast experiences were inconsistent—one morning was disappointing due to long wait times and poor quality, while on other days, the food met the high standards we expected from a hotel of this caliber. Overall, it was a mix of the exceptional and the unexpected.
