"Good and bad"
The service here is excellent, with friendly and attentive staff making the experience even more enjoyable. The menu is creative, with high-quality ingredients and beautiful presentation in every dish. While prices are on the higher side and the wine is marked up significantly above retail, this is a perfect spot to reserve for a very special occasion.
"Don’t make us feel second class citizens"
Great experience once we got our table. One tip: if you ask guests to wait for their table, don’t place them in a corridor where they’re in the way and can’t get a drink. It’s not the fault of paying customers that they arrive on time, yet the waiting setup made it inconvenient.
"Great Food, But Room for Improvement in Atmosphere and Details"
The food here is excellent, and the service is highly efficient, making for a very satisfying dining experience. However, the tables are placed very close together, making it difficult to converse without overhearing neighboring diners, and the dining room’s acoustics do not help. Coffee could be improved, and desserts would benefit from more fruity options. Prices are at a Michelin-level, but with the current setup, the restaurant would need better spacing and ambiance adjustments to truly reclaim its former distinction.
"Above average but not memorable"
Had high expectations after seeing this restaurant featured on several NYC dining lists. We visited for lunch and found it to be above average, but nothing exceptional. The food was okay, and the interior felt a bit dated. Learning that they recently lost their last Michelin star seems fitting, as the sea bass was overcooked and the overall presentation lacked finesse. It was a pleasant enough meal, but not the kind of memorable high-end dining experience we had hoped for. Glad we saved our evening reservation elsewhere.
"Fun atmosphere, great Italian food"
This Italian restaurant has a fun, energetic vibe and is a great place to hang out. Went for dinner on a Thursday evening with a colleague, and it was packed—perfect for people-watching. The food was excellent: I had the tuna tartare and lobster pasta, while my colleague enjoyed the squash gazpacho and lobster pasta. Everything was flavorful and well-prepared, though prices are on the high side. Highly recommended if budget isn’t a concern.
"Good Food, not Michelin Star Level"
A couple visited for dinner before a Carnegie Hall concert. The service was impeccable—friendly and attentive without being stuffy. While the dishes used top-quality ingredients, the execution was rather unimaginative. We tried three items: fusilli with octopus (sauce overpowered the delicate octopus), a lobster appetizer (bland and lacking flavor), and a fish for two (the highlight of the meal). Overall, the food did not feel like 1-Star Michelin level. Additionally, wines by the glass were very expensive.
"Lunch and a walk in Central Park!"
Located on Central Park South near Columbus Circle, this restaurant offers delicious food, excellent service, and a prime location. The experience is on the pricey side, but worth it for a special treat. Began a very pleasant afternoon here, then enjoyed a leisurely stroll through the Park. 😄🤗
"Enjoyed Everything"
We arrived early for our reservation and were graciously seated at a lovely table in the back dining room. Our server, Michelle P., was welcoming and knowledgeable, helping us navigate the menu. We shared a nicely sized Insalata, and both enjoyed risotto—mushroom for my husband and lobster for me—generous portions and absolutely delicious. For dessert, we shared bombolini, donut holes dusted with cinnamon sugar. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed everything about Marea: the food, the attentive service, and the inviting atmosphere. The dining room was quite cool, so it was nice to have a wrap, and we noticed others covering up as well.
"Disconnect between food and price"
I had a family brunch over the weekend and, having visited before, was generally happy with the experience. The waiter service was fantastic, and the quality of the food remains excellent. The octopus and lobster appetizers were standout dishes. However, the wait between appetizers and mains felt too long. Portions were underwhelming for the price—pastas were small, and the scallop entrée had just three medium-sized scallops with vegetables for $52. While I understand inflation, the value felt off. I’d rather spend a bit more and return to Brooklyn Fare.
"High-end Italian for a special occasion"
Marea is an ideal choice for celebrating a special occasion. If you’re seeking a high-end Italian dining experience, this restaurant truly delivers. From the cocktails to the dessert, everything was exceptional, making for a perfect evening. We can’t wait to return for another memorable meal.
