"Do NOT stay here with kids! Not family friendly"

We stayed here with our two boys, ages 5 and 7, after reading that the resort offered plenty of activities for kids. Unfortunately, that was not our experience at all. There were no organized children’s activities like we’ve seen at other family-focused resorts. The “kids club” they advertise turned out to be a small, outdated room tucked in the back of one of the restaurants, with a handful of old toys scattered around. Our kids took one look and said no—and honestly, we couldn’t blame them. The pool was also disappointing. At times it felt dirty, with algae on the bottom that you could feel under your feet, along with used bandages and bugs floating in the water. That’s not something you expect, especially when traveling with children. On a positive note, the room was clean, and housekeeping was probably the best part of our stay. The restaurants were overpriced, and the food was just average. The location in the marina is nice if that’s the area you’re looking for, but it’s a solid 20–30 minute cab ride (about 200 pesos one way, depending on traffic) to get downtown. When I raised these concerns with management at checkout, they acknowledged that they currently don’t have a proper kids’ area and said they’re “working on it.” That was frustrating to hear—if there’s no real kids club or children’s programming, it shouldn’t be advertised as such. In our experience, this is not a good choice for families with young children. Aside from the pool, there was truly nothing for kids to do—and definitely no real kids club.

"Best location and staff"

I’ve stayed at this hotel more than a dozen times over the years and have always found the staff to be honest and trustworthy—this visit was no exception. I sent out laundry and was pleasantly surprised when a supervisor personally returned $2 that had been left in a pocket. That level of integrity says a lot. I understand the hotel will be closing for the summer due to upcoming changes, and as the wind-down begins, some services and food quality felt a bit uneven. One ongoing frustration, though, is the towel situation. The pool opens at 8:00 a.m., but towels often aren’t available until 10:30 or 11:00. If you forget to grab one the evening before, that early morning swim can be a chilly experience. I’ll save further comments for my fall visit, but as always, the beach service was excellent—special thanks to Armondo and Raul. The bell staff also deserve recognition; they are consistently wonderful and welcoming.

"Nice resort and location!"

The staff at this resort are knowledgeable and exceptionally friendly, making our stay very enjoyable. The pools are excellent, and the beach is beautiful—we especially loved sipping drinks by the pool bar while watching the stunning sunsets. Our room had a balcony with a gorgeous view, adding to the overall experience. The location is ideal: within walking distance to the Marina for boat excursions and conveniently close to many of Puerto Vallarta’s top tourist attractions.

"Beautiful and relaxing"

This was one of the most relaxing, comfortable, and affordable beach resorts I’ve ever visited. Our family had a wonderful time from the moment we arrived. The staff is consistently courteous, and the public spaces are thoughtfully designed to take full advantage of the beautiful surroundings. We especially appreciated being on the quieter side of Puerto Vallarta—close enough to walk to the Marina, yet peaceful, with a lovely beach to enjoy. The food was both very good and reasonably priced. The tostadas at Nosh were an incredible value considering the high quality of the seafood used. A special shoutout to Francisco, who was always welcoming and efficient! We stayed in a one-bedroom King Jr. Suite, and it was fantastic—spacious, with two balconies and a direct view over the pool and out to the ocean. Honestly, we could have spent the entire vacation just relaxing in the suite and been perfectly happy (and almost did!).

"December 2025"

We stayed for seven nights while attending a large golf tournament. Check-in was smooth and welcoming, and the service throughout our stay was excellent. We did pay for an upgrade, but unfortunately didn’t feel it offered much value since our room overlooked an alley on the side of the building. That said, the pool service was outstanding—ask for Raul, hands down the best pool server! Our room was very clean, and the entire property was well maintained. We also loved the delicious coffee and pastries at the café. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and will definitely be back next year!

"With new ownership room pricing has increased dramatically and they are changing their format to an all-inclusive.!"

I have been staying at the Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa for more than 10 years, and we have truly loved our visits over the years. It has been a special place for us, with wonderful memories and consistently warm service. However, with the new ownership, room rates have increased dramatically, and the transition to an all-inclusive model has significantly changed the overall value and appeal of the property. Sadly, it no longer feels like the same experience that kept us coming back year after year. We’ve had a great run and are grateful for the many enjoyable stays. I especially want to thank the current staff, as well as the many team members over the years who made our visits so memorable—even those who have since moved on. Kindly, Craig Harrison

"Nice solid 4 star hotel"

This is a genuinely nice hotel overall. We stayed for six days with our two teenagers, booking two rooms, and appreciated the relatively quiet atmosphere, which was exactly what we were looking for—although the pool music was occasionally louder than expected. The food was good, and the beach area was a highlight, with staff consistently clearing rocks to keep the sand smooth and enjoyable. While I hold Titanium status, recognition was minimal; we did receive an upgrade, but only after some back-and-forth discussions despite the resort being fairly empty. The staff members were friendly and courteous, though it felt like management didn’t fully empower them to make decisions. Unfortunately, the ice machine on our floor was broken the entire stay and emitted constant beeping—we called multiple times, and eventually my husband unplugged it himself. Our room was clean and well-maintained, but the pool area was less impressive, with visible trash and floating sunscreen residue that was unpleasant.

"Fitness Center and overall experience"

We’ve been coming to this hotel every year for over 20 years and already have another stay booked for January and February 25–26. Overall, we truly love the place, but there are some recurring issues that are hard to ignore—especially the condition of the fitness center. Despite some reviews suggesting it’s decent, the equipment has been in serious disrepair for years. Unless it was upgraded since our last visit, it remains in poor condition. The one bright spot is Gonzalo, the gym attendant, who is the saving grace of an otherwise lackluster workout facility. We’ve raised concerns repeatedly, but unfortunately they seem to go unaddressed. Some criticism of the front desk staff is justified. They can be unhelpful and occasionally unfriendly, and the billing system is confusing at best—be sure to review your bill daily, as it often takes a long time for them to explain the charges. Beach amenities also need improvement: the chairs are uncomfortable, umbrellas are frequently broken, and last year’s chairs were noticeably shorter than in prior years. That said, the hotel food is excellent, and most employees throughout the property are genuinely kind and helpful. Management, however, seems less attentive and somewhat difficult to approach. It’s often unclear who to speak with about concerns. We suspect some of the deferred maintenance may have been in anticipation of transitioning to an all-inclusive model. While we personally go into town every evening and wouldn’t choose all-inclusive, we do worry about how such a change could impact the overall guest experience. We’re sharing this feedback mainly because the deteriorating gym is a significant issue for us, and we’re somewhat anxious about how rumored changes may affect our upcoming stay. These are simply our personal observations—others may feel differently—but as longtime guests, we hope to see improvements that match the hotel’s potential.
