"Review about my stay EN Occidental Jandía Playa. Poor access to carry heavy bags POR the stairs"

We stayed at the Occidental Jandía Playa in August 2025. The hotel is large with plenty of space around both pools, and sunbeds were never an issue. Staff were friendly and attentive, and the room was clean and tidy, although a little worn. One point to note is that accessibility to the room with heavy suitcases was difficult, which could be challenging for some guests. Aside from that, everything else ran smoothly, and we were satisfied with our stay.

"SALVADO POR LA GUEST MANAGER “GULIA”"

After two previous stays at the hotel, we decided to return on our own to celebrate our 25th anniversary from July 21 to 28, 2025. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. The hotel no longer reflects the quality expected for its price. The cleanliness and condition of the rooms were poor, and the common areas, including the main pool, were noticeably deteriorated. On the positive side, the animation team—especially Francisco and Lorenzo—was excellent, and the dining service staff were lovely, attentive, and very clean. Special mention must go to Guest Manager Julia, who was charming, attentive, and genuinely concerned about both her work and the guests. Thanks to her intervention, we now have some doubts about returning, whereas before our decision not to come back was certain.

"Relaxing holidays with excellent care"

We stayed at the Royal Level and were delighted by the care and attention received throughout our stay. The rooms were impeccably clean, spacious, and offered stunning views, with thoughtful daily check-ins to see if anything was needed. The Royal Level facilities, including the swimming pools and hammocks, were excellent, always well maintained and spotless. The food was of superb quality, varied, and elaborately prepared. Special congratulations to the entire Atlantic Buffet team, including the waiters, live-cooking chefs, and the unseen kitchen staff, who were consistently attentive and friendly. The only minor drawbacks were that the Green Bar was understaffed, with only two waiters to cover the terraces and interior, leading to delays with cocktails, and that the Royal Level area could benefit from clearer access control—currently, large pots allow others to pass through, so a cordon or signage would help delineate the space more effectively. Overall, an outstanding experience with just a few areas for improvement.

"Great place to stay"

A great place to stay while exploring the island. The staff were excellent and very attentive, and the food offered a wide variety and high quality. The hotel has plenty of pools, and we never found them crowded, making it very relaxing throughout our stay.

"We will certainly not return"

The hotel is decent overall, but several aspects need attention. The rooms feel outdated, and the buffet was largely the same every day, with only minor changes in presentation. The staff at reception and in the restaurant seemed robotic and rarely smiled, with the exception of one young man in the outdoor area who was particularly friendly and helpful. On the positive side, poolside entertainment was impeccable. I enjoyed my stay overall, but I would not choose to return.

"Very nice hotel with ocean view"

This hotel is really good for both family and romantic stays, with the ocean just a 5-minute walk away. While the hotel itself is excellent, there are quite a few closed shops nearby, which is a bit disappointing.

"Economic"

This is a budget hotel, so expectations should be moderate. That said, polite and professional service from the reception staff should not cost anything. Some staff were friendly, but others came across as indisposed and overly authoritarian. Reception is the face of the hotel, and improvements are definitely needed. There were long waits at the restaurant counters, although the food overall was acceptable. The house wine, however, was very disappointing. In-room WiFi did not work in our block (Block 9). The nearby shopping mall’s nightlife can be noisy and disruptive late into the night, which should be addressed. Overall, the hotel is adequate for a budget stay, but several service and amenity issues could be improved.

"Pretty regular."

Although this hotel belongs to the Barcelo chain, it did not feel like a typical Barcelo property. The staff were generally friendly and helpful, and the buffet food was good. However, the rooms were not thoroughly cleaned—sheets were left stretched but floors were not swept, which is a problem for those who walk barefoot. The air conditioning did not work properly, and there were often not enough sunbeds, forcing many guests to head to the beach instead. Reception was generally fine, though a few staff members were less courteous. Overall, while some aspects were satisfactory, the hotel did not meet the usual standards associated with the Barcelo name.

"Decent trip away"

The hotel is large, with plenty of space around both pools, and we never had issues getting sunbeds. The staff were always pleasant and friendly. Our room was clean and tidy, though a little dated, and there were some broken tiles around the hotel—but nothing serious.

The main downside was the restaurant terrace, which felt understaffed, especially in the mornings. Food was often not cleared promptly, allowing birds to land on tables—a hygienic concern that could be easily addressed with better service. Evening meals were okay but lacked variety, with griddle meats mostly limited to pork chops or turkey. Evening entertainment was also disappointing, particularly given the hotel’s remote location; better shows would improve the overall experience.

Overall, it was a very pleasant holiday, and we would possibly return.

"We did not miss anything essential but not suitable for us."

The hotel has nicely styled rooms in Spanish colonial design, clean accommodations, and even a few friendly cats wandering around. The food is decent, though nothing exceptional. However, there are a few downsides: loud poolside music from midday until dinner can be heard in the rooms unless all windows are closed, there are few engaging activities beyond the pool, and the balconies lack privacy dividers. We also noticed ants in the room, though not on the bed. Overall, while we didn’t miss any essentials, the hotel isn’t ideal for those seeking originality in activities or a more tranquil, relaxing environment.

"Disappointment"

We had stayed at this hotel four years ago and loved it, but our recent visit was a major disappointment. The hotel is now very deteriorated and urgently needs renovation. The upper pool had large areas without tiling, exposing concrete that scraped our feet, and there was mold along the edges. The pool water was extremely hot—38°C during a heatwave—and despite reporting it, it was never fixed during our five-day stay. The room’s air conditioning did not work properly and failed to cool. Food quality has also declined, and when we asked two cooks questions, they ignored us, likely due to a language barrier, which was frustrating. Overall, the price does not reflect the deficiencies; we have stayed in better three-star hotels.

"Far above expectations"

We had an excellent stay at the hotel. The staff were incredibly friendly, and the buffet was extraordinary with a wide variety of high-quality dishes. Our group of 12 family members was especially impressed when they went above and beyond to celebrate my 6-year-old nephew’s birthday, providing us with a truly special and memorable experience.
