"Disappointing and Unsafe Shuttle Experience"
I took the shuttle from Kuta to Ubud, and unfortunately, it was a poor experience. The van had no seatbelts, was old and uncomfortably hot. It arrived 30 minutes late, and we even had to walk 5–10 minutes to a second location to catch it due to the delay. I don’t like leaving bad reviews, but travelers should know that Perama sometimes uses vehicles without seatbelts—something that really shouldn’t be overlooked for safety reasons.
"Smooth Ride from Padangbai to Kuta Beach with a Few Delays"
I traveled with Perama on the transfer from Padangbai to Kuta Beach, and overall, the trip went smoothly. We made a short stop in Ubud where passengers had about 15 minutes to grab a snack or relax, which was a nice touch. One thing to keep in mind — they ask you to arrive 30 minutes before departure, but don’t worry if the driver isn’t there right on time. My meeting time was 1:00 PM with a 1:30 PM departure, and the driver only arrived exactly at 1:30 PM. It seems that’s quite normal in Bali! The drive itself was comfortable, though traffic can be quite heavy in the afternoon. Just be patient and allow for delays — that’s part of the Bali experience.
"Late and Poorly Communicated Shuttle Service"
I booked a shuttle from Sanur to Denpasar Airport, but it turned out to be a frustrating experience. The shuttle arrived 20 minutes late and reached the airport 35 minutes behind schedule. To make matters worse, the driver dropped me off near the International Terminal without saying a word. My flight was from the Domestic Terminal, so I had to figure out on my own how to get there. Very disappointing and stressful experience overall.
"A Disappointing and Stressful Experience – Beware of This Company!"
I would give less than one star if I could. Our 4-day, 3-night trip to Ijen, Bromo, and Tumpak Sewu turned out to be a complete scam. We chose this local company believing their claim of over 20 years of experience in organizing tours, thinking they would handle everything professionally—but it felt like we could have organized it far better ourselves. The first van that took us from Bali to our accommodation near Ijen Volcano was in poor, heavily used condition. From Banyuwangi port to Oku Guest House, the situation got worse: the car was in terrible shape and smelled awful. At Oku Guest House, one room had bed bugs, and some blankets didn’t even have covers. The next ride to Ijen Volcano was even more dangerous—the car leaked gasoline fumes inside and could barely climb the hill. We had to call the company in the middle of the night because we couldn’t breathe inside the vehicle. They sent another van, which turned out to be in even worse condition, again leaking gas fumes and nearly intoxicating us. After we insisted we couldn’t continue traveling six more hours to Bromo in such conditions, they sent another van from Probolinggo, promising it was a good one. It wasn’t—it was another old wreck, though at least it didn’t smell of gas. Our stay at Di Lava Guesthouse in Bromo was very basic and freezing cold; my child had to sleep wearing gloves and a hat as the wind whistled through the door gaps. The third night was the worst. At Yanto Guesthouse, we were given cramped, worn-out rooms that looked like the worst ones available. Since the Perama office was closed when we arrived, there was no one to talk to. When we told the driver we couldn’t stay in such conditions, he even threatened to leave us there. Only after complaining did the manager finally upgrade us to slightly better rooms. This entire experience was awful. We were a group of ten, and we paid €2,000 for this nightmare—money completely wasted on stress, discomfort, and disappointment. I will never book with this company again. Do yourself a favor and choose a reputable agency—or better yet, organize your trip on your own!
"Disappointing Tour Experience Despite Partial Refund"
We gave two stars only because the company refunded part of our payment after we explained what went wrong. We joined the Surabaya – Waterfall – Bromo – Ijen – Bali tour, but overall, it was a frustrating experience. The driver spoke no English, making communication almost impossible on the first day. He also drove extremely fast, making us feel unsafe throughout the trip. As for the guide, while he was polite and kind, he lacked initiative. Unlike other guides we overheard, he gave no explanations about the sites, no itinerary briefing, and no advice on clothing or preparation. We had to ask every question ourselves. On the last day, he even slept while we waited for the sunrise. We both work in tourism, so we know the difference between a good guide and one who simply accompanies you. Guests shouldn’t have to pull information from their guide—it should come naturally. The tour felt poorly organized, especially compared to our earlier temple tour in Yogyakarta, where the guide was much more professional. For the price we paid, the quality was unacceptable. The hotels were far below standard, with one having dirty sheets and mould stains. The breakfasts were also poor—cold fries and a thin sausage, with no tea or coffee offered. Only Café Lava provided a decent meal. In the end, we felt overcharged and disappointed. The refund was appreciated, but we truly hope the company improves its service and organization for future guests.
"Extremely Unprofessional and Disrespectful Staff Behavior"
I had a terrible experience with this company due to the disgusting behavior of one of their female staff members. When I politely asked for a 10-minute delay because I was stuck in traffic, she started shouting and screaming at me in a completely unprofessional manner. What makes this even more frustrating is that the bus itself was delayed by half an hour in the morning because of them, and no one complained. Yet when a passenger faces an unavoidable delay, they react with rudeness and aggression. This kind of disrespectful behavior is unacceptable and shows a complete lack of professionalism and empathy toward customers.
"Amazing Mt. Batur Sunrise Trek, but Misleading Tour Description"
I booked the Mt. Batur sunrise trek through Perama, and while the experience of hiking an active volcano was truly unforgettable, the overall tour didn’t completely match what was advertised. The driver arrived on time and took us to a small breakfast spot near the volcano where we were served tea, coffee, and a thin crepe with banana and chocolate syrup — simple but perfect for 2 a.m. fuel before the climb. The base of the mountain was packed with tourists, vehicles, and guides, adding to the excitement. The trek itself was challenging yet rewarding. Although it’s said to take about 1.5 hours to reach the top, it can take over 2 hours if you’re not in good shape. Some people from our group even chose to pay 350,000 IDR for a scooter ride up instead of hiking, as the path is steep, rocky, and narrow. The descent was easier but still slippery, with scooters available for 300,000 IDR for those who needed assistance. Reaching the summit was worth every effort — the sunrise view was breathtaking despite the crowd. However, the biggest disappointment was that the package mentioned a visit to the Mt. Batur hot springs and a coffee plantation, neither of which happened. After the hike, we were driven straight back, making the tour description misleading. Overall, I’m glad I did it — hiking Mt. Batur was a once-in-a-lifetime experience — but I wish the tour had delivered everything it promised.
