"Downgraded from business to economy without compensation"

Downgraded from business to economy without compensation or a solution. Rude, unreasonable and not cooperative. I fly over ten times a month and this is my worst experience so far. Avoid Philippines airlines at all cost.

"Philippine Airlines is complete crap"

My experience with this airline has been incredibly frustrating and disappointing. Customer service is essentially non-existent—rude on the phone, unhelpful, and completely disorganized. I’ve been trying to get a refund for nearly eight months, and all I’ve received is the runaround. They agree to one thing and then send completely different information. No one answers your questions directly, and anything related to customer service has to go through email, which they haven’t replied to in over a month. Every flight I’ve taken with them—four in total between the U.S. and back—has been over an hour late. It’s clear they take no pride in operations or service. The only somewhat decent part of the experience was the food, which I’d rate a mediocre 5 out of 10. It’s deeply disappointing that a company can operate this poorly with seemingly no accountability. If this is the standard they accept, the entire leadership team should seriously reconsider their approach—or step down.

"Terrible Customer Service Philippine Airlines"

The flight itself was understandably uncomfortable for a 14-hour journey, but the real issue was the appalling customer service both on the ground and in the air. Our return flight was delayed by over 12 hours, which we reluctantly accepted—these things happen. However, we had paid for Comfort Class seats due to family members being very tall, and those upgrades were not honored. Our flight from Davao was supposed to depart at 4 PM, but at 3:30 there was still no plane, and the delay was announced with no estimated departure time. After over six hours at the airport, we were at risk of missing our connection in Manila, along with many other passengers. We spent more than two hours pleading with ground staff, who assured us we’d either be rebooked or receive hotel vouchers if we missed our flight. None of those promises were fulfilled. When the flight finally arrived, it was a smaller plane with no Comfort Class, and only after persistent insistence did we get exit row seats. Fortunately, the Manila–San Francisco flight was slightly delayed, allowing us to make the connection after a frantic rush through four security checkpoints. What was most frustrating was the consistent dishonesty from staff—another passenger flying to SFO received a hotel voucher, yet we were repeatedly told they weren’t available. A flight attendant even said they’d escort us to the right ground crew in Manila, but never followed through. Since this experience, we've heard from others who also swore never to fly PAL again due to the same lack of accountability and poor service. Based on this, we will not be flying with Philippine Airlines again.

"Terrible experience with Philippine Airlines"

Terrible experience with Philippine Airlines. They offloaded my bag without warning due to ‘overload,’ causing me to miss it for my international flight. It arrived 5 days late—damaged. Despite their promises, they ignored all refund requests. Unreliable, unprofessional, and showing complete disregard for customers. Avoid at all costs.”

"A Truly Smooth Experience with Philippine Airlines"

I’ve had the pleasure of flying with many airlines over the years, but Philippine Airlines (PAL) truly stands out. From check-in to landing, the entire experience was seamless. What impressed me the most was how smooth the actual flight was—PAL offered the least turbulence I’ve experienced, making the journey incredibly comfortable and relaxing. The boarding process was impressively well-organized. Passengers were called in an orderly and timely manner, avoiding the usual rush and confusion, which really set a positive tone for the flight. The in-flight food was satisfying—not over-the-top, but flavorful and enjoyable. A special mention goes to the chocolate served on board—such a simple yet delightful treat! The crew’s service was exceptional throughout: attentive, friendly, and professional. All in all, PAL delivers a level of quality and comfort that makes flying a pleasure. I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone seeking a smoother, more enjoyable travel experience.

"3 Star Flight"

I had mixed feelings about my recent experience with Philippine Airlines. I paid $150 to change our seats so I could sit with my family, but then the flight was switched to a different airline without any real explanation—and the seat selection fee was effectively wasted. No refund was offered, which was frustrating and disappointing. On the return flight, I was surprised to find that the seats had no in-flight entertainment system, which made the long-haul journey feel even longer. That said, I appreciated the gesture of providing free Wi-Fi, which helped somewhat. Overall, the service was okay, but considering the cost, I expected a more seamless and reliable experience. I hope Philippine Airlines takes steps to improve these issues in the future.

"good company"

I recently flew multiple legs with Philippine Airlines—from Manila to Busuanga, Puerto Princesa to Caticlan (with a connection in Manila), and finally from Caticlan to Cebu—and overall, the experience was smooth. The only minor setback was a 25-minute delay on one of the flights, but everything else went according to plan. Booking online was straightforward and hassle-free. Just a tip: be sure to respect the baggage weight limits to avoid additional charges. I’d definitely consider flying with them again.

"Thank You PAL"

Following my previous review regarding schedule disruptions with Philippine Airlines, I want to acknowledge that their team responded promptly and made a genuine effort to address my concerns. I appreciate the support and responsiveness from PAL in resolving the issue. Thank you for stepping up and assisting in a timely manner.

"Maybe next time in eco class"

Overall, the flight was okay — so why only 3 stars? I flew Business Class on an A320, and while it was only a 3-hour flight, the seats weren’t flat beds, which may disappoint some travelers expecting more comfort. Additionally, there was no entertainment system on board, which made the experience a bit dull. The inflight meal was below average in both quality and presentation. On the positive side, the staff were friendly and the flight was on time. A decent experience, but there’s room for improvement.

"Very good experience with the kid"

I’ve been flying internationally about five times a year with various airlines, and I must say, Philippine Airlines pleasantly surprised me. I was traveling with my child, and the level of care and attention we received was exceptional. My child was served first, given several complimentary items to play with, provided a fresh blanket, and we received priority at all gates — a huge help for parents. The airport staff in Manila were also incredibly accommodating. We were running late for our fourth flight due to personal reasons, but the team did everything they could to ensure we made it onboard. Every flight was on time, and the overall journey was smooth and comfortable. I’ll definitely be booking with Philippine Airlines again.

"Changing bookings is a nighmare but I will fly with them again"

I originally booked tickets from Brisbane, but due to multiple schedule changes, I ended up rebooking from Sydney as I specifically wanted direct flights. It took over an hour on the phone with the Manila office to get everything sorted out, which was frustrating. That said, the flight itself was a positive experience. The in-flight entertainment was easy to use, the food was good, and the cabin crew were friendly and helpful. Despite the booking hassles, the onboard service made up for it.

"Reimbursement of aircraft seating (from 41H to 66G)"

I recently flew with Philippine Airlines (PAL) and had an unfortunate experience with my seating arrangement. I paid over $200+tax for a 41H seat, which was assigned to me. However, I was not informed that this seat was an exit row and would require me to assist in case of an emergency. As a 72-year-old senior citizen, this seat was not suitable for me, so I requested a change at check-in. I was reassigned to a 66G seat, which was a regular seat, but the issue here is that I never received prior notice about the exit row requirement. Since the seat I initially paid for was unsuitable for my needs, I believe I am entitled to a reimbursement. I contacted PAL for a resolution and was directed to send an email for reimbursement. I would appreciate a prompt response and fair consideration for the reimbursement of the extra charge for the seat that I could not use due to safety concerns. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

"regular flight"

The flight itself was uneventful, but I did have some issues with the passenger experience. It seemed like the flight was full of transient passengers, many of whom appeared to be seamen. Unfortunately, they were talking very loudly throughout the flight, creating an uncomfortable and noisy environment. If you're looking for a more peaceful and quiet flight, I’d suggest opting for a more premium option, as the atmosphere on this one wasn't ideal. I know some may consider this a bit “snooty,” but I do value a quiet and relaxed flight experience.

Philippine Airlines

Philippine Airlines (PAL) is the flag carrier of the Philippines, headquartered at the PNB Financial Center in Pasay. Founded in 1941, it holds the distinction of being the oldest operating commercial airline in Asia. The airline made its first flight on March 15, 1941, using a Beechcraft Model 18 aircraft from Manila to Baguio. Following a brief suspension during World War II, PAL resumed operations in 1946 and became the first Asian airline to cross the Pacific Ocean, with a flight from Manila to Oakland, California. In the late 1940s, PAL was designated as the country's flag carrier, and it expanded rapidly in the following decades. The airline was privatized in 1966, when Benigno Toda Jr. acquired a majority stake. However, in 1977, the airline was re-nationalized under the Government Service Insurance System. It was privatized again in 1992, with Antonio Cojuangco leading a group that purchased the airline. Over the years, Lucio Tan became the majority stockholder by the mid-1990s.
