"Wonderful Experience at a Modern European Gem with Outstanding Service"
We had a lovely time at this modern European restaurant. The service truly stood out—Leah was incredibly kind and genuinely helpful. She patiently explained all the dishes on the menu and gave us fantastic recommendations. I absolutely loved the smoked eel sandwich, and the cured trout with peas, broad beans, asparagus, and new potatoes was incredibly fresh and delicious. A wonderful dining experience I’d gladly repeat!
"An Interesting Experience with Good Food but Lacking the ‘Wow’ Factor"
This restaurant offers some nice dishes, but I left feeling it was missing that special X factor. Perhaps I don’t fully appreciate fine British cuisine as much as others might. I tried the smoked eel sandwich, which they seem to be known for, and it was very tasty and quite unique. For the main course, I had the hake, which was also very good. However, the service affected our overall experience. We waited a long time both to place our order and to receive our food. The service felt quite basic, and frankly, didn’t seem to justify the 13% service charge they add. We paid £152 for two courses each and a modest bottle of wine, which felt quite expensive. While we enjoyed the food, the meal lacked that ‘wow’ factor that would bring us back. One additional note — the restaurant feels rather anti-vegan, with limited plant-based options.
"A Delightful Lunch Spot with Great Food and Friendly Service"
This place had been on my list for a while, and we decided to visit for a weekend lunch with a same-day booking. The restaurant is beautifully designed and spacious, so you don’t feel cramped next to other diners. The eel sandwich was absolutely delicious, and the salted trout was equally impressive. Their martini menu was intriguing, featuring several creative twists on classic recipes. The service was friendly and prompt throughout. I’d happily return for another visit!
"Innovative Flavors and Great Mains Let Down by Slow Service"
The concept here is very innovative, and the food is beautifully presented with interesting flavors. The small plates are tasty, though they don’t always come together cohesively—some guidance from the waiter on what pairs well would really enhance the experience. The mains were outstanding; my partner loved the pie, and I thoroughly enjoyed the halibut. The ambiance was pleasant and comfortable overall. However, the service fell short of expectations. Our drinks took too long to arrive—the first round only came after we finished the small plates. When I asked for the drink menu again, it took nearly five minutes to get it. We also had to request water, a missing fork, and the bill twice. Unfortunately, the service doesn’t do justice to the potential of the food here.
"Disappointing Service and Cleanliness Overshadow Good Drinks"
The service level here doesn’t quite match the prices charged. While the drinks themselves were good, the experience was marred by dirty glasses and, shockingly, a long black hair found among the ice cubes. This lack of attention to cleanliness really detracted from what could have been a better visit.
"Delicious Eel Sandwich Lives Up to the Hype"
Had a good meal overall, and the recommendation for the eel sandwich was spot on — it was truly very good!
