"A luxurious stay with a few surprises"

The property is absolutely stunning, featuring fantastic amenities and beautifully opulent rooms. The location is quite secluded from the main town, which we expected, though it felt slightly more remote than anticipated. The only minor drawback was a slight musty smell in the rooms.

"I wanted to love this property so much… but too many little things that just weren’t right."

The Waldorf Astoria Rome is steeped in history, originally opened by Conrad Hilton and having hosted world leaders and celebrities over the years. The property is undeniably stunning, with a grand lobby and décor that harkens back to a classic era of luxury. The location atop a hill provides spectacular views from the rooms, and the shuttle service makes it possible to reach the city center in about 20–30 minutes. There were some clear highlights. Nicola at reception greeted us warmly and made check-in a breeze, offering a truly above-and-beyond experience. Room service upon arrival was fast, and the food was excellent—the hamburger being one of the best I’ve had in a long time. The view from our room was breathtaking, and the property itself feels like a historic landmark. Unfortunately, there were several disappointments that detracted from the experience. The room lacked a visible, accessible room service menu; the TV “menu” was glitchy, and I only discovered the QR code for ordering on the second night. Even when ordering via the QR code, items were missed or delayed, resulting in cold food after a long wait. The room itself was not clean upon arrival, with stains on the walls and in the bathroom, as well as masking tape left on the ceiling from painting. While housekeeping eventually maintained the room well, first impressions fell far short of what one expects at a Waldorf Astoria property. The bathroom was particularly problematic. The toilet functioned intermittently, sometimes flushing, sometimes not, and the issue persisted despite multiple service requests. At times, the toilet would work for a few hours only to fail again, creating a frustrating experience for three people sharing the bathroom. Staff behavior was inconsistent and often unprofessional. While some employees were courteous, many seemed disinterested in their roles. The checkout experience was especially disappointing, with staff rushing us through the process and making unnecessary accusations about potential disputes rather than offering a polite farewell or asking about our stay. Overall, while the property’s history, architecture, and views are impressive, repeated issues with room cleanliness, maintenance, and service quality made it difficult to enjoy the stay fully. Given the premium price and luxury branding, I had expected a far higher standard. For future trips to Rome, I would choose the Aleph Rome, Curio Collection by Hilton, instead. While the Waldorf Astoria is historic and beautiful, it falls short in service and maintenance in ways that are difficult to overlook.

"A great but expensive experience"

This hotel exudes class and luxury, making our seven-day stay, including three nights with a large group, very comfortable. The rooms were fantastic—extremely clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully designed with shutters and an extra door for peace and darkness. Housekeeping even folded clothes, the air conditioning worked perfectly, and the bed was lovely. The bathroom, however, felt classic and somewhat outdated, with a bath that drained poorly. Breakfast was excellent, offering a wide variety of fresh options, including made-to-order items and juices. The staff were exceptionally friendly, ensuring our large group always had tables ready. Dinner experiences were mixed: the bar outside was overpriced and underwhelming in both food and service, though the ambiance was enjoyable with live music and a beautiful view. Dining at the hotel restaurant outside, accessible by golf cart, was excellent—authentic Italian atmosphere, great food quality, and attentive service, though again pricey. Food in the conference area was moderate, with repetitive dishes and overly salted baked pasta. Overall, the staff were extremely nice and helpful, and the property provides a luxurious and comfortable stay, though dining prices and some areas could be improved.

"Waldorf Astoria luxury"

Breakfast on the 7th floor was a highlight—open all day for coffee, juice, and cappuccino, with a calm and tranquil atmosphere. The pastries and breakfast items were excellent, and the staff were truly 5-star. A charming bonus: a one-legged seagull named Jonathan has lived here for over 10 years, and the staff clearly adore him. Watching him interact gently during breakfast was a memorable experience. Housekeeping was world-class. We left a few warm sweaters for future guests, and they were cared for wonderfully. Special mention to Monique, a Filipino staff member, whose service was beyond 5-star excellence. The spa experience was equally remarkable—never crowded, serene, and impeccably maintained. The massage was exceptional, with precise, expert pressure techniques that deserve a 10/10. The sauna and warm baths were also wonderful, making the spa experience feel truly luxurious. Overall, this property excels in attention to detail, service, and guest experience. A truly memorable stay!

"Beautiful compound, rooms and public spaces need a renovation urgently"

The property is beautiful with lovely grounds and a nice pool, good gym, and a spa, though the latter lacks privacy. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, making the stay pleasant. However, the rooms are in clear need of renovation—furniture is old, carpets have an unpleasant smell, and the woodwork requires attention. Breakfast downstairs can be hectic, reflecting the need for some improvements in both facilities and room upkeep.

"Love this Hotel"

We stayed at the Waldorf after a cruise and could not have been happier. Our room was stunning, offering a fantastic view. The pool area was gorgeous, and the breakfasts and coffee were absolutely fantastic. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and attentive, making our stay even more enjoyable. Dinner was excellent, with a lovely setting overlooking the pool.

"Very nice / spacious rooms but beware – it’s way off the beaten path"

We really enjoyed our stay at the Waldorf, particularly the spacious Queen Imperial room with a rollaway bed, which comfortably accommodated our family of five. The beds were very comfortable, and the bathroom was impressive—spacious, with a high-quality blowdryer and a separate vanity with seating, which was a thoughtful touch for traveling with adult children. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the room service and restaurant staff at Uliveto were excellent, accommodating a food allergy with professionalism and care. However, the hotel’s location on a hill, about 10–15 minutes from central Rome, meant we relied on the hotel shuttle or taxis/Ubers, which added up for our group. The property’s amenities were limited, and there was nothing within walking distance, making the hotel feel somewhat isolated. The Imperial room access was a nice perk, offering buffet breakfast, light lunch, and appetizers with complimentary drinks, though the food was modest and the policy against taking any items out of the room was a bit restrictive. Overall, while the rooms and service were excellent, we would likely choose a more centrally located hotel for future visits to Rome, even if it meant sacrificing some space.

"How to start the day in the best way"

If you are staying at Cavalieri, starting the day with breakfast at the Uliveto Restaurant is an absolute must. From sweet to savory, the range of dishes is wide, varied, and of excellent quality. The service is impeccable. The staff are attentive and quickly learn your preferences, making you feel right at home. Gianluca’s warm welcome, and the kindness of Bob and Damiano, ensure the day starts perfectly. Professionalism, attentiveness, and genuine hospitality at every level make it impossible not to want to return.

"Nice property, not close to historic sites"

Nice property, we are diamond members and received an upgrade overlooking pool and city, which was very nice. As diamond we did not have access to the executive lounge which was a bit unusual, as normally it is a nice perk. Even though they have a 3 star Michelin restaurant, in 6 nights we could not get a reservation. Besides the pool bar, they only have 1 other dining option, which has the same menu for lunch and dinner, clearly they put all their effort into La Pergola, which you can’t access unless you get a reservation months in advance. The property is not close to anything, so you will need to Uber or taxi to historic sites and dinner. We did walk to Vatican City which was only 30 minutes. We dined at Uliveto several times and it was great, especially the sea bass for 2, truffle pasta and the pumpkin gnocchi, just needed more options. We found Ambrosia rooftop restaurant and bar, near Trevi Douala d it was phenomenal! If you go Eugenio’s service rocked. As always, the Waldorf service model is amazing.
