"Disappointed with Logistics – Poor Planning by Sam Travel"
While the Inca Trail hike itself was a great experience, the logistics and planning by Sam Travel were disappointing. With a group of 22 people, I expected the tour company—especially the owner—to do basic checks on accommodations and facilities beforehand. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. The facilities along the trail were terrible, though I understand they are managed by the National Park and outside of Sam Travel’s control. Still, better communication or preparation could have helped. The true heroes of this experience were the porters and guides, who went above and beyond to support the group. They deserve all the praise. Zero stars for Sam Travel due to poor planning and lack of accountability.
"Misleading and Overpriced – Disappointed with Sam Travel"
What could have been a great tour turned into a nightmare. We were hit with hidden costs—$200 in mandatory tips and $250 for required gear rentals. We booked Huayna Picchu as an addition but found out it replaced our Machu Picchu visit unless rushed. Our guide was untrained, and we were merged with other groups on the return, causing long delays. We paid over $1,200 per person—50% more than advertised—and were left feeling misled and unsupported. Very disappointing experience.

I used Sam Travel for my Machu Picchu trip. JP was an amazing Inca Trail guide, David was excellent, and Junior supported us from start to finish. Strongly recommend!
"Terrible Experience – Look Elsewhere"
We did the 4-day Inca Trail and were extremely disappointed. After adding extras, we had no time to properly visit Machu Picchu. We were also forced to give a $300 tip and take all “optional” items. The organization was poor and unprofessional. Choose another company—there are better, more reliable ones out there.
"Disappointing and Unprepared"
The guide gave little information and seemed eager to leave early. I shared my no-meat diet, but was given chicken for lunch. I was stung twice by a bee, and my partner was also attacked—the guide just watched, offering only ibuprofen. They claim to have a first aid kit, but clearly don’t. Wouldn’t recommend this agency—others are more professional and caring.
"Amazing Family Tour with Sam Peru"
I was nervous traveling to Peru with my 8 and 10-year-olds, but Junior’s quick and detailed responses put me at ease. We did the 9-day Machu Picchu and Amazon tour, and the team adjusted plans whenever my kids needed rest. Armando, our Cusco and Machu Picchu guide, was patient, intuitive, and kept us informed. We hit a snag with the unbooked Cusco–Puerto Maldonado flight (hence 4 stars), but Junior quickly resolved it and helped with the cost. In the Amazon, Bryan and Tony were amazing—especially Bryan, who impressed us with his deep knowledge and passion. Seeing a white sloth and capybaras was a highlight! We’ll definitely travel with Sam Peru again!
"Great Guide, Poor Coordination"
Josep was an incredible guide on the 4-day Inca Trail hike. However, the company had some miscommunications and logistical issues that made the experience harder than it needed to be.
