"Excellent value omakase"
It’s rare to find an omakase in New York that delivers such incredible value for the quality of ingredients offered. At over $200, it may sound steep at first, but once you experience the meal, the generous portions and outstanding quality make it feel like a bargain. Every bite showcased freshness and precision, making the entire evening a truly excellent dining experience.
"Left Hungry Omakase!"
After spending $500 for two, I left disappointed and still hungry. While the sushi quality was decent, many of the regular sushi pieces in the omakase lacked depth of flavor. The more creative dishes stood out, but the rest felt uninspired and unremarkable. For this price point, I expected a memorable experience, but instead it felt like a slightly above-average sushi dinner with a luxury price tag. Proceed only if you have a “devil-may-care” pocketbook—otherwise, it’s hard to justify the cost.
"Great fish, needs better presentation"
We came on a Saturday night for kaiseki for three and were overall quite impressed with both the offerings and the flow of the meal. The entrance is subtle—we missed the door at first glance—but the interior is quaint and welcoming. We had reserved a table off the bar, and the entire restaurant, including the chef’s counter, was full throughout the evening, creating a lively atmosphere. We opted for the kaiseki menu and also tried the “drop the mic” and the wagyu beef hand roll from the à la carte selections. One of us ordered the pairing as well. The food was delicious and the fish exceptionally fresh, leaving us more than satisfied by the end of the meal. That said, a few details fell short. The sushi presentations could have been tidier—nigiri pieces occasionally leaned or overlapped, detracting from the overall aesthetic. While most of the fish was outstanding, the uni was a disappointment compared to what we’ve enjoyed elsewhere. Dessert was also a letdown; it would have been nice to have an alternative to the apple pie, as just two scoops of the excellent soba ice cream would have been perfect. Overall, it was a successful and memorable dinner that stretched nearly three hours—delicious food, a cozy setting, and only a few misses in presentation and dessert options.
"Subpar rice!!"
We had a birthday dinner here after learning it from michael colameco’s in create tv. Read a lot reviews before going so the expectations were high. We both had the $195 sushi kaiseki as recommended by many reviewers. We were basically v happy with the freshness of the fish and the tastes of the special dishes. One thing we noticed right away when we moved to the sushi course: the rice wasn’t up to the standard as some reviewers also mentioned. As sushi lovers, we all know that the rice is as important as the fish and therefore it was a big disappointment because we had the subpar rice 10 times. So the dissatisfaction had deepened with each and every sushi. Not good. The staff was very friendly and we got to talk to the sushi chef and chef jimmy lau too. Very friendly guy. A nice experience overall but if u r just a sushi guy, skip this one and go to tanoshi sushi as they have much better rice, same fresh taste exploding fish and more important, more reasonable price :p
"Very tasty, very cool experience"
We came to Shuko based on the strong reviews and chose the omakase tasting menu. It turned out to be a very nice experience, with exceptionally fresh ingredients and beautifully prepared dishes. The wine and sake recommendations were excellent and paired perfectly with the meal. While it is definitely on the expensive side, if you love sushi and are looking for a unique and elevated dining experience, Shuko is highly recommended.
"Sublime"
One of the best Japanese restaurants I’ve ever experienced! The flavors, presentation, and attention to detail are outstanding. Truly not to be missed — this spot makes Manhattan shine.
"Yummy"
Amazing!! While it’s on the expensive side, it’s definitely worth trying at least once. We truly enjoyed the food—the presentation was beautiful, and the waitstaff were very kind and attentive. One thing we noticed is that the chef seemed to pay more attention to certain guests than others, but it didn’t take away from our experience. There are two menu options available; we chose the larger one, which is a lot of food for some people—but not for us! We happily finished everything down to dessert.
"Delicious sushi & wonderful Omakase"
We had the pleasure of dining here with our two adult sons and their girlfriends in a private room, and everything about the evening was outstanding. The service was impeccable, and the food was just as impressive. The sake sommelier was incredibly helpful with thoughtful recommendations that elevated the experience. Having enjoyed omakase in several cities, including Tokyo, we can confidently say this meal was right up there with the very best. Highly recommend — reservations are a must!
"You have to give this place a GO!"
Regardless of what others may say, I found Shuko to be quite delightful. While it may not be the absolute best sushi I’ve ever had, the care and craft of the chefs shine through in every detail. We ordered the Sushi Kaiseki and added extra Toro and A5 Wagyu to elevate the experience. The sommelier was very knowledgeable and guided us to an excellent sake pairing, and the cocktails were also fantastic—my favorite was The Tokyo, a creative take on the classic Manhattan. The staff was warm and attentive throughout, and Chef Nick Kim even came by our private dining area to personally check in. Overall, an impressive and memorable evening that I would definitely recommend.
"Incredible sushi experience"
We came here with a group of friends, and it turned out to be a truly fantastic sushi experience. The waiter was incredibly helpful with thoughtful recommendations, which made the meal even more enjoyable. The setting felt very intimate, allowing us to really savor each course. Without a doubt, this was one of the best sushi experiences I’ve ever had.
