"Will not return"
We stayed for 2 nights in this hostel, and the experience was disappointing. The room was more or less clean (though the sheets weren’t particularly fresh), but the bathroom was absolutely horrible, and the toilet was barely functioning. The second night was even worse: around 1 a.m., the A/C stopped working, and it took 30 minutes to "fix" it. All the night receptionist had to do was reset it, but the delay made the night very uncomfortable. Overall, the facilities were poorly maintained, and I would not recommend this place.
"Great clean value. No complaints."
Excellent! The place is clean, and the staff are always friendly. It’s great value for money, and I truly have no complaints. A special mention goes to Amit from Bihar—his smiling face and willingness to help made the stay even better. And for the record, I’m not a fake reviewer; I’m from NZ!
"For those on a tight budget only"
This hotel is one of the more decent options in Paharganj for budget travelers, but it does come with its issues. Our room was small and damp, the bathroom was tiny, and there was no linen on the blanket, which had stains and did not feel clean. While it’s located in the heart of the action in Paharganj, it’s on a quiet side street, which is a plus. However, you do have to pass an open street toilet to reach the hotel, which is quite unpleasant. The property has two buildings (perhaps the other one is better, but I can’t confirm). The management gives unusual advice to guests, such as “not to trust anyone,” which felt odd. The rest of the staff was okay—neither very pleasant nor unfriendly, but generally helpful. Breakfast was average. It’s cheap, so if you’re on a tight budget, it’s an option, but don’t expect much in terms of comfort or cleanliness.
"Don’t Ever Go to this hotel"
Don’t go to this hotel—it’s not really a hotel, it feels more like a hostel. You can’t have fun, chat with friends, or even laugh without being called out. They constantly call you to keep quiet, and you can’t even close the door normally—you have to do it very gently, or they’ll complain against you. This strict and unfriendly atmosphere makes the stay extremely uncomfortable. It’s my humble request: please don’t go here. I do not recommend this place at all.
"Okay"
We arrived very late at night, and they waited for us, which was great. We spent 2 nights in this hostel located in the Main Bazar (a very crazy and fun place). For Indian standards and the price, it was okay. The location is excellent—just a 3-minute walk from the train station!
"A cheap and nice hotel in Pahargangj"
We stayed twice at Smyle, first on our arrival in Delhi and again before our departure, for a total of 5 nights. The hotel is really clean, with white sheets, en suite bathrooms, and hot water. The location is perfect—right in the middle of the bazaar and only 5 minutes from the train station, yet it’s tucked away in an alley, making it quite quiet. Breakfast is served on the terrace, which is a nice touch. There’s also an internal travel agency that’s very convenient for booking buses or trains. A special mention goes to Manish at reception, who was friendly and attentive to all our requests.
"Full of surprises."
This is a medium-quality hotel for Paharganj, with very nice and helpful personnel. They also sell train tickets and tourist SIM cards, which is convenient. However, the kitchen is terrible, and the AC wasn’t working (though that seems to be common in India). The surroundings of the hotel are pretty noisy and filthy, which takes away from the overall experience.
"Great stay at Smyle Inn"
We had a nice stay at Smyle Inn. The room was spacious and had a functioning hot shower, which was a pleasant surprise compared to other places we stayed during our trip. The location is excellent, just a 10-minute walk from New Delhi metro station, where the Airport Express Line operates. The only downside was that it was quite noisy at night due to the busy street below. Other than that, we had a great few days. A special mention to Rinku, who served us delicious breakfasts and coffee on the rooftop café—she was absolutely wonderful!
"YOU WILL NOT BE SMILING :-( Poor value for money, noisy, unclean, badly designed room."
YOU WILL NOT BE SMILING :-( This place offers poor value for money. The room was noisy, unclean, and badly designed. Overall, a very disappointing experience.
"Super service"
Simple and nice hostel with very friendly staff who help with everything you need. Special thanks to Amit for his great service and to the travel host Rishi for assisting us in planning the next part of our trip. The hostel is located in a busy market with lots of shops and food to explore. It can be a bit tricky to find the first time, so make sure you have the location downloaded or data on your phone. Be cautious of people in the street trying to scam you when you arrive—don’t trust them or follow them to tourist offices. The hostel’s travel office can book tours and drivers for anywhere you’d like to go. Special shoutouts to Ravi, our Delhi tour guide, and Rishevh, who drove us to Agra and Jaipur in a very comfortable car.
"Worth for money, for budget trip"
This is a budget hotel that’s worth the money for those traveling on a tight budget. The location makes it easy to reach many tourist attractions, although the area itself may not be to everyone’s liking as it isn’t very classy. That said, we roamed around until midnight and never felt unsafe. There were many tourist families, couples, and especially foreigners in the area late at night, which was reassuring. Families and couples can stay here with ease.
"Nice and next door is under construction"
This is a really nice hostel, and the staff who run the place are fantastic! The location is great too, just off the main bazar, so it’s relatively quiet. However, there is major demolition work going on in the building next door, and the constant pounding on the walls goes on for about 12 hours a day. I had terrible jet lag when I arrived and couldn’t nap during the day because of the noise. At 7:00 p.m., the work was still ongoing. If you’re sensitive to noise, you might want to skip this place for now, as the construction could continue for weeks.
