Taj Mahal Palace

"Experience which was not expected"
I visited Taj Mumbai on 26th December with my mother and had reserved a table at Shamiana Restaurant. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from the start. The lady who greeted us during the reservation seemed unhappy doing her job, which set a negative tone. Upon arrival at the restaurant, the chair at our table was not cleaned, which was quite unexpected for a property of this standard. To add to this, the service was very slow throughout our meal. In comparison, my experiences at The Leela have been excellent and truly incomparable to what I encountered at the Taj.
"A life long memory to Cherish – The great Taj Mahal Palace & great hospitality by Sagnik Ghosh"
We flew to Mumbai solely to celebrate my wife’s birthday at the iconic Taj Mahal Palace, hoping to make it a celebration we would cherish forever. From the moment we arrived, the experience exceeded every expectation, thanks largely to the incredible efforts of Sagnik Ghosh (Restaurant Manager). We entrusted him with planning our two-day stay, and the way he curated every detail left us truly overwhelmed. His hospitality and thoughtfulness are hard to put into words. If the Taj Mahal Palace is the "Crown," then Sagnik Ghosh is undoubtedly the brightest and most central "Gem" in that crown. Every aspect of our stay was infused with warmth and care. We departed with countless memories that will stay with us for a lifetime. Having stayed in many renowned hotels across India and the world, we can confidently say that the Taj Mahal Palace holds a very special place in our hearts. The entire staff we interacted with, including Abhinav (Executive Club Lounge), Percy (Heritage Walk), and Khushi (Club Lounge Reception), were consistently welcoming and genuinely happy to be part of the Taj legacy. Their ever-present smiles and willingness to go above and beyond made the experience even more special. We also thoroughly enjoyed the Heritage Walk, which beautifully showcases the fascinating history and events the Taj Mahal Palace has witnessed over the years. A BIG THANK YOU to the entire team at the Taj Mahal Palace for making this occasion unforgettable!
"Timeless grandeur and exceptional service at Taj Mahal Palace — with a dash more warmth, it’d feel like home."
The Taj Mahal Palace is undeniably breathtaking, with its stunning architecture, luxurious rooms, and world-class amenities. The views from the rooms are spectacular, and the dining experience is exceptional, offering a wide variety of delicious cuisines. The ambiance throughout the hotel is magnificent and truly reflects the legacy of this iconic property. However, despite the grandeur, I felt there was something missing in terms of a personal touch. While the staff was professional and attentive, ensuring every need was met efficiently, the service felt more formal than warm. Unlike other luxury hotels where the staff often go the extra mile to form a personal bond, here I felt more like a well-cared-for customer rather than a cherished guest. In summary, The Taj Mahal Palace is a magnificent and luxurious hotel that excels in many aspects. With a bit more emphasis on fostering a warm, personal connection with guests, it could easily become not just a place to stay but a favorite destination to return to. This feedback is shared simply to help improve the experience for future guests and does not require any response or follow-up.
"Average service overhyped expectations. No longer exclusive"
The service at this hotel was average at best, with staff displaying a clear "chalta hai" attitude. It's not a great place for kids as there’s nothing for them to do here. Perhaps it works for overhyped business meetings or for foreigners visiting India, but it certainly lacks family-friendly amenities. Couples might find bits and pieces of luxury, but it’s inconsistent. Don’t expect late check-outs either, as the property is always "sold out." We stayed in the palace section, which felt cramped and far from the spacious luxury one expects at a high-end property. Overall, you won’t find the wow factor you’d expect from a luxury hotel. At best, you get exactly what was promised — or even less — but never anything more.
"A Timeless Stay at the Iconic Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai"
This hotel has long been on my bucket list, and as a landmark in Mumbai, its location opposite the Gateway of India and close to Colaba Causeway and Marine Drive made it a great choice. Our welcome was efficient, and the foyer and staff left a good first impression. The decor and overall look of the hotel are stunning, giving you that classic British Raj feel. The outside pool area is lovely, and Aquarius serves excellent food with a varied menu. There are three main restaurants—Wasabi, Loya, and Golden Dragon—and the first two were very impressive. However, the hotel is incredibly busy, constantly swarming with people, and during our stay, there was also a conference, which added to the crowd. For breakfast, I wasn’t impressed with the Sea Lounge; the service felt lacking, and the food quality and selection didn’t match expectations. Shamiana was better, offering an extensive selection, though it had more of a New York deli vibe and was just as busy. Overall, a beautifully iconic property, but be prepared for large crowds and a hectic atmosphere.
"Not Worth it. Many more properties are available with better experience and service with same price range"
First of all, Taj needs to train its staff to work faster and interact more genuinely with guests. As guests, we do not expect to wait two hours just to complete a check-in. Additionally, the property could benefit from more amenities, updated rooms, and proper maintenance to match the standards expected of a luxury hotel.
"A memorable stay except dinner exp at Shamianas buffet was far below average"
Our arrival at the Taj Mumbai was wonderful, with a warm ambience and refreshing welcome drinks setting the tone for the stay. The check-in process, however, was a bit slow, and the attending staff appeared somewhat overwhelmed, which was understandable as we were a group of 10. That said, the effort made by the Duty Manager to accommodate our entire group on one floor (even though the rooms were far apart) was commendable, with a few room upgrades that we truly appreciated. The rooms and facilities were excellent, meeting every expectation of Taj standards. We had booked on a half-board basis, and our first meal was the dinner buffet at Shamiana. Unfortunately, this experience was below average. While the outlet itself is beautiful, the food lacked the distinct “Taj-ness” we expected. The selection, layout, and quality felt mass-produced, more like an average catering service. In hindsight, we regret not opting for the set menu at Golden Dragon, which had been suggested to us. Thankfully, the restful sleep and a beautiful morning were complemented by a lovely breakfast at the Sea Lounge, where the impeccable service and attentive staff truly stood out. Check-out was smooth and efficient, despite the hotel’s high occupancy. Apart from the Shamiana dinner experience, everything else reflected the signature Taj hospitality. Every staff member we encountered greeted us with a warm smile—a simple yet impactful gesture. Thank you for the wonderful memories, and we look forward to returning soon. "Warm !! Loving !!"
Our stay was filled with positive vibes from start to finish! The hospitality was outstanding, and the staff was genuinely warm and loving. The linens and bed comfort were excellent, ensuring a restful sleep. Housekeeping did a fantastic job, keeping everything spotless. We absolutely loved our sea-facing room—it offered breathtaking views! In-room dining was very accommodating, and the food throughout the property was delightful. The Sea Lounge’s hi-tea experience was wonderful, and the Chinese Dragon restaurant served absolutely amazing food. The greenery around the hotel added to its serene atmosphere, making it a truly refreshing stay. Highly recommend this property for its blend of comfort, beauty, and top-notch service!
"Musty smelling room"
Although the hotel itself is undeniably beautiful, our room was unfortunately quite damp and had a strong musty smell. We were given a dehumidifier, but it was very noisy, and we had to keep emptying it ourselves, which was inconvenient. Additionally, the towels felt rough and didn’t seem particularly clean, which was surprising for a hotel of this caliber. Overall, we were left a bit disappointed, especially considering the premium price we paid for our two-night stay.
"Iconic Indian place"
An iconic Mumbai landmark, this historic hotel is beautifully preserved, and its location is truly exceptional. The common areas, such as the swimming pool and internal staircases, add a unique charm and character to the property. However, the hotel is extremely busy, and the constant frenzy makes it difficult to feel relaxed. The service also seems a bit overwhelmed by the heavy activity, and the general reception experience felt below the high standards set by other iconic Taj hotels like Umaid Bhawan and Falaknuma. Additionally, some rooms suffer from poor internet connectivity (e.g., room 235). That said, this remains a must-visit property for its history, architecture, and prime location.
"Arrogance at the highest level"
The hotel is an iconic property with beautiful rooms, but the staff’s attitude completely ruins the experience. It’s easily the most arrogant team I’ve encountered in any hotel worldwide. On a positive note, the pick-up service is excellent, and the driver is knowledgeable about the city’s history—half your city tour feels complete just riding with him. However, avoid the Sea Lounge; the experience there was extremely disappointing. Ultimately, people make or break a stay, and here, the staff left a lasting negative impression.
"Iconic Hotel, But Disappointing Hospitality"
The Taj is often celebrated for its world-class hospitality, but unfortunately, my recent experience didn’t live up to its iconic status. Right from the start, the first impression was disappointing. Despite having a confirmed booking, we were made to wait outside near the pool in extremely humid weather for almost half an hour just to complete the check-in process. It was frustrating and far from the warm welcome one would expect from a prestigious hotel. One of the biggest letdowns was the staff’s attitude. There seemed to be a noticeable difference in how Indian guests were treated compared to foreigners. While it’s understandable to ensure international guests feel at home, it doesn’t justify extending second-class treatment to Indian guests. Respect and courtesy should be universal. On the positive side, our room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. However, there was a lack of clarity about what was complimentary—while fruits were free, items like nuts were chargeable, something that could have been better communicated. The afternoon tea at Sea Lounge was a highlight of the stay, with its elegant ambiance and delicious offerings. The breakfast spread was also impressive with a wide variety of options. That said, the overall hospitality felt inconsistent. Even the poolside staff were unwelcoming, and the much-talked-about Heritage Walk was already “sold out” for the entire day, leaving even staying guests unable to experience it. After paying 3–4 times more than other premium hotels where I’ve had far better service, this stay left me genuinely underwhelmed. The grandeur and heritage of the property deserve better consistency in service and attitude from the staff.
