"Hotel in Machu Picchu you would prefer not to choose"
We booked this hotel after completing the Salkantay Trek with Alpaca Tours, eagerly anticipating the room upgrade with a hot tub as a reward after many hours of hiking. Unfortunately, we were sorely disappointed. The room was more expensive, yet the hot tub leaked so badly that we had to call for help to bail out the water. There were no instructions on how to use it, and the water was far from hot enough to be enjoyable. Breakfast the next morning was equally underwhelming. The coffee was barely warm — it seemed to be decanted from a boiler and reheated on the stove. There were no juices available, and overall the breakfast was below par. For a hotel that charges around $200 a night, this is one we would recommend skipping.
"Great base to explore Macchu Picchu."
Jaya offers spacious and clean rooms, with a large shower that was very comfortable. The location is very convenient—close to both the train and bus stations, as well as the market. Luis gave us a warm and friendly welcome. Overall, it was a great base for exploring Machu Picchu. Thank you, Jaya team!
"Peace!"
It’s a great place to relax in a town rich with history. The food options are excellent, with many fantastic restaurants nearby. The staff are very good and attentive.
"Mediocre but clean hotel in great location"
This hotel feels overrated. While it has a fresh, newly decorated look and a great location, there are quite a few inconveniences and discomforts that add up. Communication with the front desk was a mixed bag for me—often frustrating. It seemed that some staff might lack sufficient training, though I can’t be certain. One bright spot was having breakfast on the top floor, where Carlos made a great impression. He was friendly, well-spoken, and genuinely cared that our group enjoyed the meal. Thanks, Carlos!
"good, solid stay!"
The beds were super comfortable and the staff were very nice! Special shoutout to Luis, who was very hospitable with our bags and incredibly kind. The location is great—close to the bus stop, train station, and plenty of good food nearby. We had a minor issue with the water for a short time, but the staff fixed it quickly and efficiently.
"Nice staff"
You really get what you pay for! The triple rooms don’t have external windows and instead open into an interior corridor. This made me nervous traveling alone with my twins, as it felt like someone could literally jump in. Thankfully, the very kind manager moved us to rooms with windows, but those rooms were super noisy. The lift was broken during our stay, and breakfast is served on the 7th floor — definitely a challenge! On the bright side, the staff were lovely and accommodating.
"Recommended: 2+ Nights"
It was a cozy and friendly hotel. The room was comfortable, the breakfast delicious, and there was plenty of hot water. However, I had requested a guide through the hotel in advance, but communication wasn’t very smooth, and I ended up having to confirm it after arrival. Aside from that, the front desk and housekeeping staff were pleasant—especially the breakfast team, who were very kind. Overall, it was a satisfying stay.
"Hot water ran out. Jacuzzi didn’t really work. Wifi pretty much did not work."
After a full-day Inca hike, I was really hoping for a hot shower, but the hot water ran out quickly, so I had to finish in cold water. It was fixed later that night, and we were able to shower again after dinner, but I’ve already deducted points for that. Room 310 faces a football and volleyball court, where activities go on until at least 10 pm. Closing the windows helped reduce the noise. The room looks fancy and renovated, but some details seem overlooked for guest comfort. For example, no slippers were provided, yet the floor wasn’t clean enough to walk barefoot. The closet was too short to hang a mid-length jacket freely, and ventilation was poor—after showering, the room and mirrors stayed foggy for a long time. WiFi kept reconnecting and was very slow when connected, though my phone’s 3G signal was steady, so this might be an Aguas Calientes issue. The bed was clean and comfortable. Breakfast on the 7th floor was good—eggs made to order, and the hardworking breakfast staff definitely deserved tips. You can store your luggage at reception after early check-out, which worked well for us. After visiting Machu Picchu, we returned to grab lunch and pick up our bags before taking the train out of Aguas Calientes.
"Eaten Alive By Mosquitos While Sleeping. No AC."
Any review rating this hotel—or most others in Aguas Calientes—above 3 stars is frankly unrealistic. Even at its best, there is nothing luxurious or exceptional about this place. That said, it is clean, the staff are friendly, and the breakfast room is very pretty (though the food leaves much to be desired). However, when we were shown to our room in the afternoon, every window on our floor was wide open, as were all the doors, and none of the windows had screens. Concerned about mosquitos, we closed all our windows well before sunset. At 1 AM, the night before our Machu Picchu visit, I woke to find a light on in the room, apparently to lure mosquitos away from us, and my partner was in bed fully dressed—socks, sweatpants, hoodie with the hood pulled tight—after spraying himself with bug spray. Despite this, he ended up with over 20 mosquito bites all over his body. I also sprayed myself and covered up, but without air conditioning, it was uncomfortably warm with all those clothes on. We went down to the front desk to ask for help, but no one was on duty, and the front door was unlocked—meaning anyone could walk in. Needless to say, we barely slept before our Machu Picchu tour. The beds were also not very comfortable. When we reported this to the front desk later, their response was essentially an indifferent “oh” — no apology or compensation offered. I understand Peru is a developing country, but how does a hotel without air conditioning not have window screens or mosquito nets? This is simply unacceptable.
"Well positioned, clean and best of all they hired a really great person who helped us with information, tea and luggage."
To be honest, Luis was an exceptional host. From the moment he met us at the station until we left, he made sure all our needs were taken care of. The lobby area was clean and well-equipped, and downstairs there was a nice, clean bathroom and shower. We only stayed for one night, but the room temperature was great, and the shower and bath were lovely. My only suggestion for improvement would be the pillows—they were quite hard. It was my mistake for not asking earlier, as Luis kindly offered to switch them out.
"Good place to stay in Machu Picchu"
The hotel is centrally located in town, making it very convenient. The rooms were clean, and having an elevator was a big plus after long hiking days. They offered filtered water and tea throughout the day, and breakfast was excellent with very attentive servers. The front desk was extremely helpful—especially Kevin, who always gave us great advice on where to eat and even provided an air conditioner when our room got too hot.
"Nice King Room – Average Service"
I stayed here for 2 nights while visiting Machu Picchu. The rooms were nice—I booked the King Room with the spa bath, which was great for relaxing after hiking—and I felt safe. However, the service at the hotel left much to be desired. The concierge was supposed to meet me at the train station upon arrival to take my luggage to the hotel. Since most Machu Picchu tours start right after you get off the train, this service is important, but no one from the hotel was there. I had to ask my tour guide to help arrange my luggage instead. Breakfast starts at 5 a.m., and on my first morning, I went up at that time since I had to meet my guide early for the Machu Picchu Mountain climb. Unfortunately, nothing was organized and no breakfast was ready. I waited for half an hour, which made me late for my tour. I also informed the hotel in advance that I cannot have dairy products for breakfast, which was included in the cost. They didn’t accommodate this and told me they had no alternative milk available in the area. This was inaccurate, as I found soy and almond milk at a convenience store a few blocks away, and at the main store, which I then purchased myself. It felt like they didn’t bother to look or prioritize providing good service to their guests.
