The Chatwal Lodge

"Best short getaway!"
We were seeking a welcoming dog-friendly spot for a weekend escape, and Chatwal Lodge exceeded all expectations. The resort is clean, relaxing, and comfortable. Our room was delightful, the staff incredibly sweet and helpful, and the food was excellent. Highly recommended!
"Stunning property, peaceful, restful. Not much to do but relax"
This property is truly exquisite, featuring luxurious lodge suites with expansive balconies and top-notch service. We enjoyed two wonderfully peaceful and restful days, rarely encountering anyone aside from the attentive staff, who were always available without being intrusive. That said, there is very little to do on-site—no hiking trails, and water activities were unavailable due to a low reservoir from a leak. If your goal is to relax and soak in a beautiful, tranquil setting, this is perfect. However, those seeking outdoor activities or adventure may find it lacking.
"Excellent Service- we LOVED our time here!"
We visited this resort to celebrate my boyfriend’s 50th, and it was absolutely unforgettable—we’re still talking about the trip weeks later. Our room was charming and spacious, featuring a patio, fireplace, and multiple comfortable seating areas. The food was excellent, and the staff went above and beyond to ensure every need was met, from driving us around the property to hand-delivering meals. The service was phenomenal—so much so that when my boyfriend loved a dinner sauce, the waitstaff not only shared the recipe but also gave him a quart to take home! While the reservoir was significantly drained (through no fault of the hotel), the cooler weather during our stay meant it didn’t impact our experience. This resort is perfect for unplugging, immersing yourself in nature, and enjoying quiet relaxation—and it delivered exactly what we were looking for.
"Not Quite What We Expected"
Given the cost of our stay, the experience fell short of expectations. The highly anticipated swimming and water activities were unavailable due to the low reservoir, and we should have been informed in advance and offered the option to cancel, as these experiences are a key draw of the property. While the cabins were well maintained, having a full kitchen felt pointless when there were no supplies to actually cook with. Additionally, the light switches were overly complicated and frustrating to operate, adding unnecessary stress to the stay.
"Huge disappointment from derive level 2 years ago"
Our return to this property after two years was a letdown, despite higher rates. The reservoir is in much worse shape, making watersports difficult, and the on-site naturalist and fishing guide are no longer available. The new watersports contractor at the other lake was disappointing, and the previously included exceptional wine and spirits service is gone. On-site laundry is also no longer offered, and the property overall feels less maintained, with visible garbage and construction debris near the new tree houses. In short, what was once a unique, premium experience now feels like a standard mid-market Hyatt, albeit at an extraordinary price, on a beautiful site.
"Not as originally advertised- but they suddenly corrected that when we were already there"
We were initially drawn to this property because it was advertised as offering swimming, canoeing, fishing, and waterfront views. Unfortunately, none of that was available, as the dam creating the reservoir has been damaged for over a year and a half, leaving almost no water. Had we known this beforehand, we would not have booked. That said, the property was peaceful and quiet, offering plenty of time to relax and enjoy each other’s company. Some aspects of the stay were underwhelming, such as the fire pit experience—the graham crackers and marshmallows for s’mores were stale, and snacks were not refreshed. However, the room was immaculately clean, comfortable, and beautifully appointed, and housekeeping was excellent. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, which was truly the highlight of our trip. Tristan at the front desk was wonderful, and Jill and Megan provided top-notch service. Jeremy, the sous chef (currently holding the fort solo after the head chef left), was exceptional. While the menu repeated every day, by night three he personally offered to customize our dinner, delivering fresh, creative, and absolutely delicious meals. His dedication and talent really stood out. Overall, while the property did not match its advertised features, the quiet atmosphere, beautiful accommodations, and outstanding staff and food made the stay enjoyable. We remain hesitant to return due to the misleading waterfront expectations.
"Memorable but still working through kinks"
This property is truly one-of-a-kind and shows so much potential, though having been open less than a year, it’s still working out some kinks. What made the stay memorable were the variety of activities led by Captain Cliff, the attentive and friendly staff, excellent food and beverages, and the beautifully maintained grounds and rooms. Areas for improvement include better transparency about what’s included and the range of available activities (I didn’t realize it was all-inclusive, which was a pleasant surprise, but I wasn’t aware of all the activity options), more opportunities to interact with other guests, and improved coordination among staff—given the small number of guests, I expected everyone to be fully briefed on offerings. I was also surprised that no feedback was requested at the end of my stay, leaving me to wonder if they are actively seeking to refine the experience.
"Hidden Gem in the Catskills"
We spent a fabulous weekend at Chatwal Lodge, just two hours from our home in Northwestern New Jersey. Despite being close by, we had never heard of this gem until it appeared as a Hyatt Unbound property. The grounds and hiking trails were beautiful, and the accommodations were spacious and luxurious. As Globalists, we were fortunate to receive an upgrade to a two-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath, two-story log cabin with over 2,000 square feet of living space and two cozy fireplaces. While Memorial Day weekend brought cold and wet weather, the cabin remained warm and inviting. The Lodge is all-inclusive, and the meals were some of the best we’ve ever had at such a property. We opted for wine pairings with our first dinner, and the generous pourings perfectly complemented each dish. The staff were attentive, personable, and knowledgeable about the Lodge’s history, and our room was efficiently made up and turned down while we enjoyed our meals. Although we didn’t participate in the Yoga class, we appreciated and used the Peloton bike in the small gym and enjoyed a fun Sangria-making class. While warm, sunny weather would have been ideal, the weekend was still wonderful, and we will certainly return!
"Do Not Go. There is No Lake, Boating, Swimming, Fishing, BOat Tours and its Empty."
Our experience at this mountain retreat was extremely disappointing. We booked with the expectation of a scenic lake, boating, fishing, cruises, swimming, and group social activities—but instead were greeted by a dried-up mud puddle with no boats, canoes, tours, fish, or swimming available. With the lodge nearly empty, social activities were virtually nonexistent, and all planned boat tours were cancelled. For five days, our only option was hiking in sweltering heat. The website promised amenities that apparently have been unavailable for years due to a dam needing repairs and the drained lake. Despite being repeatedly offered the option to leave the property to find a lake elsewhere, that was not why we chose this lodge. Midway through our stay, the website was even updated to remove references to the lake and boating. Overall, it was an expensive, boring, and frustrating experience that failed to deliver on what was advertised.
"Great 2-night getaway"
This gorgeous property features beautiful rooms, incredibly helpful staff, and delicious meals, making our two-night stay an absolutely wonderful getaway.
