The Chatwal, New York

"Incredible staff, perfect location for shows"
I’m thrilled we chose the Chatwal! The staff went above and beyond, helping us fit everything we wanted into a very short stay. The location is ideal for theaters, yet wonderfully quiet at night. We enjoyed the excitement of being in the heart of the city while still having a peaceful retreat to return to.
"Not spectacular but fine enough"
This hotel won’t blow you away, but it gets a lot right. The staff were super friendly—keeping in mind that it’s New York, where the friendliness meter is different, lol—and genuinely helpful. The food and room were both perfectly fine. Its prime location near Times Square is a definite plus. Overall, it’s a solid example of “fine”—comfortable, convenient, and dependable.
"A Gem!"
What a joy to stay at the Chatwal! Normally we stay at the Andaz 5th Avenue, but our friends picked the Chatwal this time, and we were delighted to go along. First, a small tip—go to the gym beforehand; the front door is impressively heavy! Parking is conveniently available right next door, and since we only had one carry-on, we saved a bit by handling it ourselves. We arrived around 3:40 PM and were immediately impressed by the warm, friendly, and attentive staff. Our points reservation was graciously upgraded, and while the room was being prepared, we were offered a complimentary drink at the bar. About 20 minutes later, our room was ready. Situated away from the street, the upgraded room featured a charming terrace with a table and two chairs. The room itself was elegant, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed, with plenty of closet and drawer space. The only minor drawback was the combination bath/shower—our friends’ rooms on the 7th floor had separate showers, which we’ll request next time. This hotel offers a quiet, intimate getaway, far from the bustle of larger hotels, and the staff truly stands out, going above and beyond to make our short stay memorable. Perfectly located for a Broadway show, the Chatwal has quickly become our new NYC home. Many thanks to the incredible team!
"Great, but don’t drink at the hotel."
A very nice hotel with a fantastic location and attentive service. The rooms are comfortable and well-appointed. Customer service is top-notch, though be prepared for very pricey drinks at the bar.
"Wonderful, historic hotel in the heart of New York City. You will not find a more elegant place to stay in mid-town."
I have always wanted to stay at the Chatwal Hotel, drawn by its rich history as the Lamb’s Club and its proximity to the theatre district. Finally getting the chance, I was delighted by the experience. The location is unbeatable—just steps from Times Square and the shows, yet the hotel feels like a serene sanctuary to retreat to. The service is impeccable, the rooms are beautifully appointed, and guests can enjoy lunch at the stunning Lamb’s Club. I cannot recommend a more charming and elegant place to stay in New York, and the Chatwal has earned a loyal guest in me.
"Great service, noisy place and needs upgrade"
For a 5-star hotel, the service here truly stands out. The property is right in the theater district, so street noise is expected, but I was fortunate to get a quieter room. The rooms themselves are comfortable but could benefit from updates, as some furniture is outdated and in need of renovation.
"Quiet and luxurious"
This high-end hotel is perfectly situated for Broadway and the theatre district. We were pleasantly upgraded to a spacious room and appreciated how intimate the property feels compared to many other Manhattan hotels. The peaceful atmosphere meant we didn’t hear any noise, making our stay truly relaxing.
"Comfy and friendly but wonky"
The Chatwal offers a comfortable stay in a perfect theater district location, with genuinely friendly and accommodating staff across the front desk, housekeeping, and bar/restaurant. The bed and bathroom facilities are excellent, and the restaurant serves some of the best burgers and cocktails in the area. That said, the hotel has its quirks. Housekeeping can be inconsistent, and minor issues—like flooding showers, incomplete coffee stations, full ashtrays, and wet towels—can detract from the experience. Technology feels outdated or underutilized, with non-functional TVs for streaming, confusing iPads, and unmarked remotes for curtains and a hidden bathroom TV. Furnishings evoke a mid-80s men’s club, and elevator buttons sometimes require multiple presses. Overall, it’s a comfy and friendly hotel with character, but not a seamless luxury experience.
"William I"
This hotel is outstanding, especially for anyone visiting Times Square or catching a Broadway show. The staff are marvelous and incredibly helpful, making the stay seamless. Despite its prime location, the hotel is surprisingly quiet, and the excellent accommodations combined with attentive service truly elevate the experience.
"Great stay at the Chatwal"
We had a wonderful stay at the Chatwal as a family of three. Our room, though showing some wear and tear, was exceptionally clean, spacious by NYC standards, and beautifully designed. Breakfast was excellent, and the hotel’s location is ideal for seeing Broadway shows or exploring Times Square—just around the corner, yet the moment you step inside, the bustling city feels miles away. Overall, a very enjoyable experience.
