The Peninsula New York

"PENINSULA NEW YORK IS A MAGNIFICENT FIVE STAR HOTEL!"
The Peninsula New York is truly the best choice if you’re seeking a prime Midtown location paired with beautifully renovated rooms and exceptional service. When I asked my travel agent which five-star hotel he considered the top in New York, he immediately recommended The Peninsula—and now I see why. From the moment we arrived, the staff welcomed us with warmth and professionalism, and after check-in, Carl personally escorted us to our room, thoughtfully explaining all of its features and even helping my husband set up his computer. The modern, tastefully designed rooms feature plush bedding, fine linens, and lavish marble bathrooms complete with a soaking tub and separate shower, creating a true haven of comfort. Each morning, breakfast in the hotel’s elegant restaurant was a delight, with a wide à la carte menu, beautifully presented dishes, and attentive waiters who made the experience memorable. The complimentary car service was a wonderful perk, taking us to nearby shops and restaurants with ease, while housekeeping impressed us by refreshing our room to perfection twice daily. We were also fortunate to meet General Manager Samir Ibrahim, whose leadership is clearly reflected in the hotel’s consistently high level of hospitality and excellence. It’s no surprise that The Peninsula has earned five stars from Forbes Travel Guide and continues to be recognized as New York’s Leading Luxury Hotel by the World Travel Awards. Reflecting on our stay brings a smile to my face, and we are already looking forward to returning. Special thanks to the outstanding staff who made our visit unforgettable: Agim, Kin, and Nicolas at breakfast; Sackio and Hal with the car service; Jason the Bell Captain; Paul and Vicky at the Front Desk; doormen Jason, Louis, and Randolph; concierges Ryan and Peter; security team members Joseph, Mike, Malik, and Amir; porter Rinaldo; assistant restaurant and bar manager Enri; and page Jose.
"lovely staff.. great loaction"
We were a bit disappointed with The Peninsula—perhaps our expectations were too high. While it boasts an amazing central location and truly wonderful customer service (special thanks to Darlise!), the rooms didn’t quite live up to a true five-star standard. In fact, we had to switch rooms several times due to various issues. That said, the staff was exceptional and always went out of their way to resolve problems immediately.
"Renovated 5 star hotel but still not on par with brand new competitors… excellent for price though"
I stayed here 10 years ago before the recent renovation and was looking forward to returning. The renovation is nice, with modern tech and updated hardware, but some older issues remain—like the toilet and sink feeling dated. The mattress was very comfortable, and the room felt larger than I remembered. Service was a bit hit and miss, with a touch of NYC attitude from the porters. The best feature by far is the flexible check-out time, which is a real plus.
"A Flawless Stay After a Rocky Start – True 5-Star Service"
We recently enjoyed a fantastic six-night stay at The Peninsula New York, which was originally planned as three nights but extended because we loved it so much—and we’ve already booked a return before heading home. The experience began with a hiccup, as our initial suite faced active construction that compromised privacy, and we briefly considered changing hotels. However, the front desk handled the situation with professionalism and genuine care, ultimately upgrading us to a far superior suite that transformed our stay. To be transparent, we booked through Amex Centurion Travel, where upgrades are sometimes extended, but in this case we truly felt looked after. From then on, everything was exceptional: the suite was spacious, beautifully appointed, and quiet, the dining both in the restaurant and via in-room service was consistently excellent, and above all, the service from every staff member—from the front desk to concierge, bell staff, and drivers—was warm, attentive, and unwaveringly professional. The Peninsula New York has now become one of our favorite hotels, and we can’t wait to return in just a few days.
"Comfortable stay in the heart of 5th Avenue"
We spent two nights at The Peninsula as part of a weekend trip and had an overall very good experience that we would happily recommend. From pre-arrival through to check-out, the service was warm and attentive, and we especially appreciated the priority given to hotel guests at the rooftop bar, where we always managed to secure an outdoor table despite the crowds. The spa and pool were a welcome luxury in such a prime location, offering a relaxing break from the city. Breakfast at the restaurant was delicious, and the cocktails at the rooftop bar were equally impressive. With its unbeatable spot right in the heart of Fifth Avenue, The Peninsula offers excellent value for money compared to The St. Regis next door.
"A TEN!! Multi-Day Event and Lodging Experience"
Our planned multi-day event with lodging at The Peninsula New York went absolutely seamless—without a single glitch. From the contractual stage to the final execution, the entire team was responsive, proactive, and genuinely friendly. They went above and beyond, handling everything with a personal and helpful touch, whether it was unexpected street construction or urgent printing needs. The rooms were fantastic, the food was excellent, and the hotel itself is both beautiful and welcoming. We would 100% stay here again and gladly host future meetings and dinner events at this outstanding property.
"Good, not great"
This hotel has the potential to be truly excellent, but it just misses the mark in a few key areas. I booked through Amex FHR, which included a $76 daily breakfast credit for two people. While a nice perk, it didn’t stretch very far since most menu items were $35+ and drinks quickly pushed the bill over the allowance. I stayed in a deluxe room that was nicer than expected, but being on the lower floors facing the church across the street, it only had one small window and limited natural light. Housekeeping was adequate but felt like the bare minimum, and on one occasion items I requested to be replenished were overlooked despite the room being cleaned. Service was inconsistent as well—some staff, particularly the doormen, were friendly and attentive, while at other times they seemed disengaged, barely acknowledging guests. Overall, the stay wasn’t bad, but a series of small oversights kept it from being memorable. With better attention to detail and consistency in service, it could easily live up to its potential.
"Experience was ok"
I’ve had the pleasure of staying at The Peninsula New York twice—9 nights in 2023 and 14 nights in 2024—and both times the rooms were excellent. One small improvement would be the addition of international socket points, though the staff quickly resolved this by providing extensions. During my most recent stay, I noticed the front desk felt less welcoming compared to before, with fewer greetings or eye contact, though this didn’t overshadow the overall positive experience. Unlike my first stay, breakfast wasn’t included in the same room rate, which was a minor inconvenience. I did encounter a surprise mid-stay when my key was deactivated, and I was asked about my check-out time despite having prepaid for all 14 nights. Thankfully, the issue was resolved quickly. A special mention goes to Charlie at the front desk, who went above and beyond on my last night to save my torn luggage so I could check it in for my flight—he was truly a lifesaver. The concierge team also deserves praise for always being friendly and helpful. Overall, The Peninsula continues to deliver great experiences, thanks especially to its dedicated staff.
"A great choice in NYC!"
I decided to try The Peninsula NYC after hearing about the updated rooms and noticing their very competitive pricing during my travel dates—and I’m so glad I did. The location is truly unbeatable, the service was excellent, and the rooms were beautifully updated, comfortable, and spotless. It felt like a genuinely upscale experience from start to finish. I would definitely recommend this hotel and have already planned to stay here again for my next two upcoming trips to NYC.
"High expectations – but the reality looks different."
We visited the rooftop bar on a Tuesday evening and were left underwhelmed. Despite being told there were no available outdoor tables, nearly 40% remained empty throughout the evening. The service felt unfriendly, with grumpy waiters who did little to create a welcoming atmosphere. The cocktails themselves were average at best and overpriced, which added to the disappointment. Overall, this is not the level of service or experience one would expect from a five-star hotel.
