The Serras Hotel Barcelona

"Ridiculous"
The room was small and expensive, with the only view looking onto a narrow alley. The sink was designed to save water, but it was impractical—hot water would only come after running it for a long time, defeating its purpose. On the positive side, the staff were fantastic, attentive, and friendly. Breakfast was excellent, with a wide selection and high-quality food. Overall, a pleasant stay thanks to the service and food, but the room and water-saving fixtures were disappointing.
"The best of the best in Barcelona"
Words cannot describe how amazing this place is. I had the privilege of meeting Antonio Bignone, who, despite his leadership role, was incredibly warm, generous, and took the time to connect with guests. The rooms were quiet, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed, making our stay incredibly relaxing. The staff were outstanding—truly the best we encountered on our Europe trip. Breakfast each morning was phenomenal, and the rooftop restaurant is an absolute must for dinner—unforgettable views and exquisite cuisine. This hotel is a gem in every sense—highly recommended and a place I would return to without hesitation!
"A nice place, but not for our needs."
Service throughout the hotel was excellent, and the location was very convenient. The on-site dining options were high-quality and enjoyable. However, the rooms felt cramped for three adults—functional, but not very spacious. The fitness center was too small and lacked adequate equipment, and the pool is more of a plunge pool than the larger pool the photos suggest. Overall, while the service and dining were strong points, another hotel might have been a better fit for our needs.
"Nice but had issues. With no resolve."
The air conditioning in our room wasn’t working, making it difficult to sleep, and the bathroom sink didn’t drain. When I mentioned these issues to the front desk, there was no response or assistance. Overall, it did not feel like the luxury experience one would expect.
"Will return to this lovely city hotel"
We stayed two nights before a work trip and decided to follow TripAdvisor reviews—and we weren’t disappointed. Our upgraded city-view room was spacious and comfortable for a city hotel. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, and they kindly accommodated a slightly later check-out. Breakfast was good, though a bit pricey, but the poolside service was excellent with more reasonable prices, so we enjoyed brunch there on our second day. We also dined in the hotel restaurant—it was pleasant, though not outstanding, but still enjoyable. Overall, a very pleasant stay in a great location.
"I expected more"
We expected more from this hotel given the high rate. At check-in, we were incorrectly told we hadn’t paid, despite paying upfront through our agent. After a long delayed flight, we just wanted to shower before dinner, but had to deal with this issue ourselves, and no apology or follow-up was offered. We also tried to pre-book a taxi by email for a concert, but none was arranged, resulting in a stressful 20-minute wait. While the staff worked hard to get a taxi eventually, this should have been handled in advance. We booked a junior suite, but the layout made the room feel small. The first night was noisy for reasons we couldn’t identify. The rooftop is small, though the rooms are well-decorated and clean, and the location is convenient if that area is your preference. Overall, a hotel with nice rooms but service did not meet expectations.
"Very 4*"
We were generously upgraded to the Junior Suite through our agent, though at 40sqm it felt a bit tight. The room was very typical of a four-star hotel. The welcome amenity was a small cake rather than what was described in our booking. Service overall was very good. The food was excellent, albeit a bit salty—apparently traditionally so. Breakfast was basic, and there’s an extra 16-euro charge for avocado toast. The location is charming, though not near designer stores. Housekeeping occasionally forgot to replenish basic items during our four-night stay, which was inconvenient. Given the high price, I expected more attention to detail. Overall, the stay was okay, but at this price point, I wouldn’t choose to stay here again.
"Old room furnishings, noisy road, great staff, great food."
Although this hotel is waterfront with a convenient location near the old town, I wouldn’t stay here again. The room furniture feels extremely outdated, like from the 1960s, and is cheaply furnished. The road outside is busy and noisy, making it hard to enjoy the waterfront view with the windows open. That said, the staff were outstanding. They recognized my dissatisfaction with the room and went above and beyond to offer alternatives, showing patience and genuine kindness. The food was good, and the rooftop bar is a nice touch. Overall, while the service and food are excellent, the dated rooms and noise make it hard to justify the price. If those factors don’t bother you, it could be worth considering—but personally, I’d look for a better option.
"Not worth the money"
We recently stayed one night at The Serras after an 8-hour flight and were very disappointed. Despite being told our room would be rushed, check-in was delayed, and our room wasn’t ready until after 2:00 pm. We had booked a sea view room for over 800 Euros but were placed on the third floor facing trees with no sea view. When we complained, they offered a partial refund, but the misrepresentation was frustrating. Adding to the poor experience, we received calls at 10 pm asking when we would check out the next day—very intrusive after a long day of travel. Subsequent attempts by our travel agent to communicate with the hotel received no response. Overall, the service was unprofessional, the room description misleading, and the stay left a very negative impression. We cannot recommend this hotel.
"This 5 star boutique hotel is worth every star!"
The Serras Hotel is perfectly located, right across from the port, with the beach just behind the property. Wonderful restaurants are nearby, and the charming shopping area “El Born” is within walking distance. The front desk service is exceptional—we were warmly greeted every time we entered the hotel and even received a complimentary mimosa upon arrival. The staff were always helpful with local recommendations. The room and hotel are beautifully designed with tasteful decor. Dining at the Informal restaurant for lunch and dinner was excellent, and the rooftop bar and pool are stunning. Highly recommended!
"A wonderful stay"
This boutique hotel is in a fantastic location and offers very nice accommodations. The staff were excellent, especially the breakfast team, who provided attentive and friendly service. The rooftop restaurant, however, had less experienced staff, and the food felt expensive given the limited selection. Overall, a lovely stay with a few minor drawbacks.
"Definitely overrated. Do not overexpect. Be warned."
We came to this hotel with high expectations, given its ranking among Barcelona’s top 5-star properties, but we left with a very average impression. The hotel faces an extremely busy street, which is not reflected in their photos, and even the surrounding side streets are noisy. The location isn’t particularly close to many city attractions or the port. Our rooms were neither quiet nor bright, with small spaces even in higher categories. While the hotel is maintained, it shows signs of wear—broken glass in the elevator, fading wall paint, and equipment issues, such as hot water flowing inconsistently from taps. Staff were limited in their capacity; even minor requests required management approval and were handled very slowly. Requests such as a room change or late departure took far too long and often required persistence. The small rooftop bar is cold in winter, and the hotel’s restaurant felt underused, with a very limited breakfast selection and only Nespresso coffee—no proper coffee machine. Overall, despite the potential, the combination of location, small rooms, slow service, and limited facilities left us disappointed. I cannot recommend this hotel.
