The St. Regis New York

"Excellent Hotel but a few things could be a bit better for the price"
Our stay at the Waldorf was overall wonderful, with the hotel’s beauty and phenomenal staff making a lasting impression. The location is unbeatable, and the butler service was excellent—reliable and attentive throughout our visit. However, there were a couple of disappointments. While we understand the hotel was very busy and an early check-in wasn’t possible, the delay before we could access our room was longer than expected. Additionally, the drinks at the restaurant did not meet the quality one would anticipate from a five-star property. Despite these minor letdowns, the stay was memorable, and the hotel’s charm and service stood out.
"A wonderful 5 days spent at the St. Regis!"
The hotel was absolutely lovely, and my experience felt extra special as I was visiting around my birthday. The front desk staff were incredibly kind and surprised me with a room upgrade, which was both beautiful and comfortable—the beds were some of the best I’ve ever slept on. The customer service throughout the hotel was second to none. One highlight was the nightly champagne sabering ceremony, which was not only fun to watch but also came with a bit of history shared by the woman performing it. The concierge was also exceptional, securing me a hard-to-get reservation at the Polo Bar right across the street. Every member of the staff went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and ensure my stay was truly memorable.
"St Regis repeat customers"
I’ve stayed at the St. Regis several times over the years and have always appreciated the oversized rooms for New York City, the elegant décor, and the consistently friendly valets. The front desk remained professional and helpful as always. Unfortunately, the butler service fell short during this visit—there was no turndown, and when I requested morning pickup of our breakfast cart, no one came, leaving us to push it into the hallway ourselves. Service at the King Cole Bar also didn’t meet the usual high standards, though the cocktails were still as excellent as ever. With so many wonderful five-star hotels in the area, I’m not certain I would return.
"Disappointing Stay"
Unfortunately, our stay did not live up to the five-star experience we were hoping for while celebrating our anniversary. The personal service one would expect at this level was missing. The concierge service in particular felt cold, unfriendly, and unhelpful—consistent with what we had read in prior reviews. The food was another major disappointment. For a hotel of this category, the quality and selection were far below expectations. Pastries were bland, yogurt came prepackaged, and the fruit salad was mostly melon, leaving very little variety or freshness. On the positive side, the hotel itself is a stunning historic property, immaculately clean, and very centrally located. Still, given our high hopes for such a special occasion, we left feeling very let down and disappointed.
"Lovely building, great location"
Overall, the hotel is impressive, with excellent rooms and amenities that made the stay comfortable. However, the service did not quite meet expectations, and breakfast in particular was disappointing. For a property of this caliber, a few important details felt lacking, and the dining experience left much to be desired. Perhaps we were expecting something more personalized, but while the hotel itself is beautiful, the food and service did not fully live up to its reputation.
"Not what it used to be, and definitely not worth 120,000 points a nightNot what it used to be, and definitely not worth"
I chose not to use points on this stay (lifetime Titanium Elite member) as I had a decent corporate rate. I hadn’t stayed at this property since 2017 and was looking forward to the rumored refresh and upgrades—unfortunately, I didn’t see much of an improvement. One of the reasons I chose this hotel over the Carlisle was the concierge service, which had previously been top-notch and able to secure hard-to-get dinner reservations. This time, it was disappointing and nowhere near the same level. I was told I had been upgraded to a Grand Lux category room, and based on photos online, I was expecting something just below a suite. In reality, it felt like a standard room. If this was an upgrade, I can only imagine how small the original room would have been. Another major letdown was the breakfast benefit. They’ve downgraded it to a very limited continental breakfast that feels more like a cafeteria “check-the-box” operation than a proper restaurant. The spread was weak and uninspiring, yet carries a sticker price of $46—completely unreasonable. It’s clear they’re simply trying to fulfill program requirements rather than provide a true 5-star breakfast experience. The butler service, which used to feel like a luxury perk, has also become a joke. You only get coffee delivered after 12 PM on arrival day, and only one coffee service per day before noon after that. Hardly the level of service you’d expect for a hotel of this caliber. On a positive note, I want to recognize Zika from the breakfast service—wonderful attitude and truly an asset to the hotel. Overall, this stay felt average at best. For a Waldorf, and especially for a return guest with high expectations, it was disappointing.
"Great and lacking in other areas"
The good news is that when we arrived early, our room was already available. However, that seemed to be because the hotel was quiet and not all services were operating. The St. Regis is undeniably beautiful and in a prime location, but I was very surprised to learn that the restaurants were not serving dinner—only in-room dining. This meant the $50 daily resort fee could only be applied to services I didn’t really want, which felt restrictive. While the food itself was excellent, this policy came across as misleading, especially since it wasn’t clearly communicated on the website. It forced me to reschedule a planned business dinner, which was frustrating. The room itself was stylish, spacious, and elegant, with a bathroom reminiscent of the St. Regis Florence, though the shower was very small and the view was disappointing—just the building next door, making the space feel claustrophobic. A small but notable detail: complimentary water was hidden under the cabinet rather than displayed, which guests could easily miss. Despite these frustrations, several aspects stood out in a very positive way. The limo service and doormen were excellent—warm, knowledgeable, and professional. Marisol at the bar provided wonderful service, even though the menu offered only small bites. And most memorable were Yesenia and Aida at the Maisonette, who greeted us warmly each morning and made breakfast feel special. My main recommendation for the St. Regis would be to lean into the luxury experience it is known for: eliminate the resort fee, offer something truly welcoming like wine or champagne upon arrival, provide guests with a discount to encourage dining on-site, and elevate the arrival experience with flowers, music, and genuine enthusiasm. Ultimately, the highlight of my stay was the staff, whose kindness and professionalism left a lasting impression. While I may return to visit them, whether I book another stay will depend on whether the hotel makes adjustments to better reflect the level of luxury it represents.
"St. Regis was an absolute disappointment"
St. Regis used to be a remarkable hotel, but this stay was truly shocking. The front desk staff seemed miserable, the concierge did the bare minimum, and the food was average at best. The rooms feel sterile, outdated, and badly in need of renovation. What was most disappointing is that my husband emailed five times in advance to arrange something special for my birthday weekend. No one ever followed up, and when he spoke directly to the manager, she showed no care or concern at all. This was such a letdown from what should be a luxury experience. Sadly, I would recommend avoiding this property at all costs.
"Pretty Good!"
I was initially skeptical about staying here after reading some of the recent reviews, but I’m glad we gave it a try. We typically stay at The Plaza, but decided to experience the St. Regis this time, and overall it was a great choice. Nearly every staff interaction—from the front desk and restaurant team to the butler, King Cole Bar staff, and bellhop—was exceptional. The Bentley house car service was also a wonderful perk. Our room on the 6th floor was very nice, though the mattress was quite firm and you could feel the springs, which was the only real drawback. I also felt the breakfast menu could be a bit more extensive. That said, the service and overall experience made for a very enjoyable stay.
"Comfortable Room and Nice Experience"
I had a very positive experience overall. The highlights were abundant, starting with the room itself—the sleep quality was simply magnificent. It was perfectly dark and cool, with an extremely comfortable bed, a firm (but pleasant) mattress, and a wonderfully cozy comforter. Housekeeping kept everything spotless, and the room was both clean and comfortable. The butler service, contrary to what I had read in some reviews, was excellent—my requests for morning coffee and turndown were handled promptly and reliably. Initially, my disappointment stemmed from the front desk, which felt rather cold and unwelcoming. My status was not acknowledged in any way, and I did not receive even a minor upgrade. However, this was later addressed in a thoughtful way. Manager Andy Pino personally reached out, listened carefully to my concerns, offered discounts, and sincerely apologized for the front desk experience. His empathy and genuine effort to make things right left a strong impression and made a big difference. Overall, I rated my stay 4 stars. The outstanding sleep quality, good service, and the manager’s personal care stood out, while the front desk experience at this particular St. Regis still needs improvement. Thanks to Andy’s kindness and professionalism, I would gladly return and can highly recommend the property.
