"Nice location"

The Westin Excelsior is one of those grand, historic hotels right in the heart of Rome’s major tourist attractions, making its prime location a key reason for the high cost. The property exudes old-world charm, though it lacks some modern conveniences such as US-standard plugs and up-to-date USB charging options.

"Very average stay and expected a bit more from Westin"

This hotel is a typical business property—large and conveniently located, but nothing particularly special. Access to the front desk and elevators requires climbing a few stairs, and there were no bellmen available at check-in or check-out to assist with luggage. The front desk staff seemed reserved and not very friendly; at one point, only one staff member was available and occupied with a phone call for the first five minutes of our arrival. Our suite upgrade, thanks to Marriott elite status, initially had a musty smell, and the key didn’t work right away. One housekeeper was present but unhelpful. The room lacked basic amenities like a coffee machine or kettle, and one of the mini-fridges wasn’t working while both fridges had unpleasant odors. The TV channels weren’t in HD, and cables behind the TV were messy and dusty. The WiFi signal was weak throughout the suite, which was the biggest issue. Breakfast was decent, offering typical Italian fare, but overall, we are unlikely to return.

"Alright"

The hotel felt dated, with strong odors and an excess of fabric and carpeting. The restaurant was underwhelming, with lackluster service and overpriced offerings. On the positive side, the room itself was very spacious.

"A must visit"

This was my first visit to the hotel with my family, and everything was excellent. The hotel has a warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. I highly recommend staying here and will definitely return in the future.

"Great Location, Great Service, Room just OK"

My wife and I recently stayed at this hotel during a two-week tour of central Italy and found it to be a great option for a stay in Rome. The location is excellent, the hotel is beautiful and very clean, and the staff are mostly attentive. The concierge provided an excellent dinner recommendation, which we appreciated. Upon early arrival, our room wasn’t quite ready, but we enjoyed a glass of wine in the lounge and were quickly taken to our room. The lounge and bar area are lovely and worth stopping by. The hotel’s classic style is appealing. Our room, 333, was spacious and clean, with ample storage and a large bathroom perfect for two people. Breakfast, tried one morning, was good but somewhat pricey, featuring a buffet of traditional Italian items, including salami, cheese, bread, fruit, and yogurt—adequate but not exceptional. The doorman service was inconsistent. On one occasion, a cab arrived promptly, but on another, we were told to walk around the corner despite having several bags at check-out. While not a major issue, it was inconvenient. Lastly, the pillows were thin and uncomfortable, which was disappointing; the hotel should consider offering alternative pillow options to better suit guest comfort. Overall, it was an enjoyable stay with minor areas for improvement.

"The Westin Excelsior – Arrival Rome"

We returned to Italy this spring to celebrate our retirement, beginning our trip with a stay at the Westin Excelsior, one of Rome’s grand hotels located near the embassy district and within walking distance of restaurants and sightseeing attractions. The hotel hasn’t changed much since our last visit 10 years ago, maintaining its timeless elegance. The rooms are impressively spacious with tasteful furnishings, and the staff are polite and professional. While the hotel is busy and likely caters more to business travelers than tourists, it remains a wonderful experience for anyone wanting to stay in a historic and refined hotel in Rome.

"Great location"

As Marriott loyalists, we found the service staff at this hotel to be amazing and very attentive. The rooms were clean, though somewhat dated and in need of a refresh. Breakfast was good, but slightly below what we expected from a European hotel experience. The location is excellent, making it easy to explore the city.

"A beautiful and famous hotel in Rome!"

The Excelsior Hotel in Rome is a magnificent property located on the iconic Via Veneto. Steeped in history and famously featured in La Dolce Vita, the hotel offers a timeless charm complemented by gracious and attentive staff. I only had time to enjoy one drink, but it was fabulous! I look forward to returning.

"Always a great stay!"

I always enjoy staying at this hotel. The service is excellent, and the location is within walking distance of all the main sites. Having stayed here about 10 years ago, I can say the rooms are in need of renovation, but it’s nothing that would deter me from returning. I appreciate the convenience of the Tiger market around the corner and the small fridge in the room. I would not recommend eating at the restaurants on Via Veneto, as they are overpriced tourist traps.

"Good not great"

The hotel is housed in an older building north of the historic city center, with reasonable access to attractions like the Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps. However, compared to the Excelsior in Florence, this property feels far less extravagant and almost spartan in its décor, which was disappointing. Situated at the top of a hill, returning after walking 20,000 steps around Rome made the climb less enjoyable. Check-in was slow, taking about 20 minutes due to a large group of retirees being processed. During our stay, we noticed multiple groups, including airline crews, and only two staff members handling check-ins at most times, which contributed to the delays.

The Westin Excelsior, Rome

Grand historic hotel on Via Veneto known for its iconic dome tower and sophisticated atmosphere. Excellent base for exploring Roman landmarks.
